Anybody not buying it? And...

Post » Tue Sep 27, 2011 2:40 pm

I recently got Gears 3, pre ordered Dark Souls, along with Battlefield 3. Too many games this holiday season! I was thinking about if I should pre order skyrim, and decided against it. For me, it is too similar to Oblivion and I don't like some of the new choices they have made with Skyrim. On top of werewolves not being in (if they were they would have announced), I feel if I buy this at launch I will be buying a game too similar to the one 5 years ago. Even bethesda admits, its a small leap.

Personally, I will eventually get the game, when the ultimate edition comes out.

On another note, what is the single feature you are most excited for about Skyrim. The thing I like most about skyrim is its setting. I love the cold, barren setting that Skyrim seems to be, It seems like a really harsh land, kind of like Morrowind.

You're so wrong on this one. Don't be fooled by graphics, a game's much more than that.

And that's why you bought Gears of War 3. Yup, that makes sense.

It got a 9/10, is the last game in the gears saga, has alot of cool features like the beast mode, and is a blast to play with your friends. Whats wrong with gears?

That's what I'm trying to say! Don't get me wrong, Gears 3 is alright but it's nothing compared to Skyrim. Gears 3 won't even provide a fourth of the entertainment and play time Skyrim offers. Yes, multiplayer included.

Edit: It sounds like i'm bashing Gears of War here. I'm not. I love the Gears trilogy but if I had to choose between the entire trilogy and a partner to play co-op with or Skyrim I'd have to choose Skyrim. Besides, Gears never kept my attention with multiplayer I find the community too bro-ish. A lot like CoD and I HATE CoD. Thstory for GoW is GREAT though.

I laugh at your mistake of buying Gears of War 3/Battlefield 3 but applaud you for going after Dark Souls.

The feature I'm looking forward to most is dual wielding two separate spells or wielding the same spell in both hands to charge it up and make it significantly more devastating. The perk system is really nice too.

Nothing "wrong" with it, although you can't expect to come onto a Skyrim forum and then tell people you like Gears of War better and expect them to be okay with it.

Not only that, but the amount of content in Skyrim versus the amount of content in Gears of War 3 ... come on. Gears of War 3 is unquestionably tinier and narrower, and people here don't like, tiny, narrow games. The online content, which will eventually get repetitive, doesn't hold a candle to a game which can easily tide you over for 900 hours on multiple playthroughs.

You made a [censored] decision. Funny for us, svcks for you.

This.

I didn't order Gears 3 cause.... It's gears.

If you don't like the previous TES games, that's your taste, but know that this is the best one so far.

I don't think so. I played morrowind probably over 3000 hours since it was released till now. From the changes they made to Oblivion, and now to skyrim, i think making the game for streamlined, easier to just pick up and play is the last thing they needed to do. They still have issues that have not been fixed or addressed since Morrowind and Oblivion, and so I think I made a good choice for myself.

Man... I dunno.

I mean, I plan on buying a lot of games this year. Rage, Dark Souls, Zelda, The Old Republic, Arkham City, and some of these HD Collections are pretty tempting, but Skyrim is at the top of my list of most anticipated games this year. I love Oblivion, with mods it's a really, really good game. Just the amount of things you can do, NPC interaction etc. Skyrim looks like it's improving on all the things that made Oblivion's basking glow dim a little bit. Things like the bad animations, how you glide across the ground when you run, how time freezes when you talk to someone, all the little things like that, that are gonna be fixed in Skyrim is what has me chomping at the bit for this game. On top of the typical Elder Scrolls M.O. of being epic, and vast, spend countless hours with, that's what really sells it.

I'll take that over "Run. Take Cover. Shoot. Run...." any day.

You're gonna carry that weight. And then realize after Skyrim comes out you made a grave mistake.

It doesnt bug me I knew I would get flak for this, but everyone has personal choice right!

Battlefield 3 (on a good PC) is basically the entry level to what next gen games will look like. Graphically it is better than anything I've ever seen, gameplay wise. Its gonna be great. Gears 3 is a party game, you invite some friends over and you all laugh and ooo and ahhhh at how gory and hilarious it can be. Skyrim is good, just not what I hoped it would be, especially after oblivion.

There's 2 games that go to the top of my list whenever I hear them come out. TES and BF. I am getting both. It's a shame my time with BF3 will be short but what can you do right?

Initially I was going to be like WHAT! Your excited about duel wielding??!!! When I saw the duel wielded weapons I laughed so hard. But yeah, the duel spell thing is very cool. I wish they had stayed true to the elder scrolls formula though, and kept fallout as fallout.

No it's not a sure thing as far as I can see it. He is basing it off of his thinking that they would have announced it by now if it was. But I know from experience that developers have a schedule for this kind of thing. They can not announce everything at once. There's a set time line for everything. It's being heavily hinted at. As far as I can see they simply don't want to say yes or no at this time. Patience is key.

No, it just hasn't been announced. That doesn't mean it is or isn't in though. They don't want to give away too many details.

Even people who don't like elderscrolls would probably pick it just because of werewolves. If they had them in right now, not announcing it would be a very stupid business move. I would pre order it immidiatly if they had the werewolves.

It also got a 1/10, by me.

Thank God.
and is a blast to play with your friends.
I played Gears 2 with a friend, neither of us had a blast. Actually, we both found it to be a pretty miserable experience.
Whats wrong with gears?

Well, the visuals are utterly hideous, not even in an appealing way, more like a "God, this is ugly" way. The gameplay is really sluggish and painfully boring. All of the characters sound like they snorted glass. The story is nauseatingly melodramatic.

Your not getting skyrim cause you think its going to be similar to oblivion, yet you bought gears of war 3 even though its extremely similar to the other past 2 games and not only that but your buying dark souls that plays exactly like demon's souls. :violin:

I'm sorry, but your logic here is flawed, if you didn't enjoy oblivion then this thread would have made more sense, but that isn't the case now is it?

Yeah pretty much.

I'll get Dark Souls further down the line. Gears 3 has had some excellent reviews, but I thought Gears 2 was terribly mediocre so I'm leaving that be. I've preordered Battlefield 3 though, so I'll be playing that and Skyrim.

I'm fairly confident that Skyrim will improve over Oblivion in most areas that count to me. Looking forward to it!
