Anyone actually paying attention to the radio ?

I listen to various stations sometimes...to be honest I prefer hearing environmental sounds and a little background game music.

While i do enjoy some of the songs on the radio. I prefer the silence from time to time and just listen to the ambient music playing in the background. Although, for immersion purposes i do listen to the radio when i enter a settlement.

Travis updates his comment after certain missions are done too.

But I'm more sad that Classical Radio is gone..

What we need is a pip-box (or juke-boy?). Collect different songs from various holotapes (maybe get some from breaking to spineless's radio station  ) and if you 'equip' them in your misc tab they'll play on your pipboy in shuffle mode. Or heck, allow you to load them up in a player terminal and let you make your own playlists. And since the terminal has connection point, they could make it so if hook it up the radio transmitter at the castle you can have your own radio station!

I have modded out the random minuteman missions and settlement attacks. I also modded the minuteman radio so it plays the ambient music from Fallout 1 & 2. It feels very much more now like the old classic fallout.

That is a cool idea. This game certainly needs move variety with the radio stations.

I'm still not sure how I feel about that "Whole Lot of Shaking Goin' On" song. Don't know if I love it or hate it.

"Shakin' and a-bakin' and a makin' the cake
Shakin' and a-shaking the cake"

Why would you shake a perfectly good cake?

A bit of Music trivia. Back before Jerry did "Whole Lot of Shaking Goin' On", it was considered to be purely a black/African American culture song that white record publishers wouldn't touch. Because "everybody knows" that the "shaking" in the song referred to an entirely different kind of interpersonal "dancing", and thus was thought too vulgar for white folks ears to hear. Jerry went ahead and embraced the song and it became his "breakout song" that put him in the Top 40 charts.

I didn't really pay much attention to the radio in my first play through until later in the game, which was well after completing Confidence Man and changing Travis's radio persona. I've seen tons of comments about how Travis was so much better before this quest, so I've been paying attention to it this play through. I don't get it. I find the pre-Confidence Man Travis to just be annoying. I can't wait to complete this quest on this play through and get back the Travis that I'm used to.

That said, I do like Diamond City Radio. I like the updates about the things going on across the Commonwealth, even if they aren't providing me with useful information or tips about new locations or anything like that. I really like the songs on it. I love listening to DCR when I'm at a settlement building stuff.

I love the radio. To be completely fair, I used a mod for GNR in Fallout 3 to add about a hundred new songs to the radio station, so that definitely spoiled me. A few of those songs actually appear in Diamond City Radio (Pistol Packin' Mama), but only a third of the DCR songs were pulled from GRN. And I love Travis before and After Confidence Man: the big difference once he's confident is that he'll still say some kinda dumb things, but now he just doesn't care. Some of confident Travis's lines crack me up. "Here's 'Whole Lotta Shakin' by Big Maybelle. And with Big Maybelle, there's a whole lotta shakin' going on."

I'm rather content with the radio this time around, and have no issues with it. I enjoy listening to Travis, both low self-esteem and smooth. Definitely better than the obnoxious Three Dog. Also like the soundtrack, both returning tracks and most of the new ones (though the next time I hear Right Behind You Baby I'm going to snap).

However, I think it would be cool if future radio stations in Fallout games would be more than just reporting on the news, but a radio host who goes around the wasteland interviewing people. Talking about life in the wasteland, current events, and getting into all sorts of trouble while doing it. Basically, bring in a character like Lazlow from the GTA series. That would be something new and interesting for Fallout.

I won't say that I pay attention to it, necessarily, but I like to leave either the classical station or Diamond City Radio on for more lively music. Helps when facing off a horde of Ghouls.

I must admit I dont listen to Travis, I found him to have a boring DJ personality..even after he gets confidence. 3 dog was more entertaining in my opinion. :)

In my opinion the radio is great. I thought Travis was a bit annoying to start with, but his low self-esteem personality has grown on me. :goodjob: I can't pick up that quest to change it. Lots of good songs, although I always have to skip the more rockabilly ones.

I only wish there were more radio stations, though. I liked the smooth talker and the crazy mutant radio in New Vegas.

I don't listen to it unless I have to to pick up a quest. Inon Zur > radio.
