Anyone actually paying attention to the radio ?

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 3:45 pm

In Fallout-3, I was paying attention a lot to the radio because I was amazed that its announcements would change according to my situation. I never had this in a game before.

But somehow in Fallout-4, I am not even listening to any radio. The guy in Diammond city was so annoying at the beginning that I felt I was waisting my time just listening to him. After I helpped boost his confidence, I still was not paying attention to him. I just did not find any indications that the radio is helping in anyway or giving crucial informations.

Is the radio helpfull at all ?

Not sure if the radio is helpful as far as giving hints, but low self esteem Travis is the best. I raised his confidence and he is not as funny. The music is still good though.

I have not paid much attention this time...fallout 3 I did to hear about my actions...does diamond city radio acknowledge your ventures? Or any other station?

Yes he acknowledges major events happening throughout the Commonwealth, although he seems to recycle old news quite a bit.

The radio is beyond useless: it's annoying. I never listen to it (I always did in FO3). I find the announcer to be a sniveling little wretch with nothing but dreary things to say.

As for the Radio Freedom and missions ... that gets annoying as they auto popup in your quest log. I turn that off and don't listen to it as I don't want auto missions constantly being thrust down my neck.

I found "low esteem Travis" to be very annoying. So much so that I do not listen to the radio on my Pip-Boy.

I know some people thought Three Dog from FO3 was annoying... he was okay in my opinion. But Travis is definitely annoying to me. Perhaps, I will eventually do the quest to give that mouse a backbone.

I never listen to the radio stations. Not really my kind of music, but It's nice that it's an option.

does he actually call you out like three-dog did? Like call you the vault-dweller or sole survivor, or even your real name? stuff like that, or does he just mention the events you took part in?

Yup. The old news i was referring to was the first BoS mission you do for them. He says the brotherhood got in a bit of a jam at Cambridge police station, but the vault dweller came along and gave them a hand. Or a gun. Or both. (insert incoherent mumbling)

I started hearing him talk about " a certain vault dweller" even coming from vault 111, but seems like only after I did work with Piper and Nick.

I don't pay attention to Travis much like 3 Dog. I can only hear the same stuff being reported so many times. That when I song is on I pay attention.

Having music blaring from my wrist doesn't fit with my stealthy style. Occasionally I'll find a location with an operating radio and listen for a second, but the songs are really starting to get on my nerves. I am VERY subject to earworms and have sort of a phonographic memory for songs - if there is such a thing. I can't tell you how many times I've been going about the house mumbling "We found out...." or similar. My wife is starting to look at me funny. ;)

I turned off evey radio I came across in New Vegas because I swear that game had the worst music of any I've ever played. I'd seriously rather listen to a whole year of repetetive beeping from an Atari 2600 game before I'd listen to 'Johnny Guitar' again.

That habit has carried over to Fallout 4, so I can't say I've ever noticed the radio.

Plus it can be fitting. I had Ride of the Valkyries playing when I found my power armour, and when I went to visit Virgil, it was playing In the Hall of the Mountain King. :P

I was listening to Diamond City Radio earlier, and Low Self-Esteem Travis said something along the lines of "There are some soldiers....constabulary...what are we calling them now? Anyway, members of the Brotherhood of Steel..." And I don't remember the rest. I don't know why, but that "constabulary" followed by him being unsure of what they're actually called made me grin for a bit.

I don't even turn it on anymore. Apart from one or two songs, it's the same playlist we already had in FO3. Waiting for the modders to add new stations or at least additional songs.

I don't pay attention to the radio. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas I turn on every radio I encounter so when I walk into the room again I can listen to it. But Fallout 4 has me turning off every radio off I could find.

There aren't that many new songs in this game. What would be interesting is have some songs in magazines in holotape form and we can then give it to the radio guy in Diamond city.
