Anyone agree that the level cap should +!

Post » Mon Jul 19, 2010 12:17 am

Level thirty is getting boring, it would be nice with the new DLC if you could put some new perks in, or bring back Almost perfect.
I think it would be nice.
What do you guys think?

Absolutely not. The Perks, Skill Points, etc are balanced around 30 levels. Adding more would screw things up.

...or bring back Almost perfect.

Why would you want to do that?

I'm not a fan of caps before you run out of content. But I'm also not a fan of do everything characters.

Given the system, I think what they went with is the lesser of two evils.

Nope. 30 made Fallout 3 ridiculously easy. That is, to say, even more ridiculously easy than it was already. We're talking breaking the threshold of easy games. Putting it in your mouth and bending it with your teeth until it snaps.

I would hate to see what happened to New Vegas with a 40 cap.

These. Why would I ever want to play the game twice if my first character is the best at everything?

@ OP: you'll find that there are people who agree with you and people that don't. Vehemently, on both sides, and with vague responses/justifications. In four posts we've already seen two of my favorites:

The only thing you can count on is that DLC will raise the cap. If that's what you want: congratulations, and be patient. If not: sorry.

Easy, there, Expresate: not everyone plays an RPG for a challenge... some people (including the OP, I expect) just want to have more abilities. Such a desire does not "break" the game.

um, for a different experience?

sheesh.

People: I can understand the point about "do-everything" and "superman" and difficulty, in general, but please try being a little less judgmental of those that want more levels/perks. Not everyone is as "good" at the game as you, and the desire to add perks does not necessarily mean that someone just wants the game to be easier.

the RP in in RPG doesn't stand for RAW POWER!!!!!11!!111

Im not being judgemental. Saying that I dont want to be superman is not an insult to people who want to be a superman.

I dont like milk. That doesnt mean people who do are some how wrong, or inferior to me. They just have stronger bones.

No, 30 is already pretty high. I think they did it right with the leveling and perks.

I think it's working out so far (at the moment I'm level 10) 30 levels means lots of leveling up to do giving the game length, and lots of perks to shape your character, but the lower amount of skill points given means you have to make more choices with your build, and having to have weaknesses.

though if they do decided to raise the bar in future dlc they need to raise the challenge alot to go with it, and not just in combat, maybe some tougher puzzles, harder speach challenges, locks, hacking, venders selling good but very pricey items etc.

I'm with you on this one, Tale. I don't want a do-everything character, but personally, I like leveling up. It gives me something else to work towards in addition to experiencing the game's content. But as it was mentioned, the cap will extend and I will enjoy being able to level up further. I just hope it doesn't unbalance the game. Of course, with the bullet sponges they put into it, I don't think it will.

Nope. It should not be raised but I believe it should have taken a longer time to level up.

No. 20 was enough. 30 is already overboard. Play a new character.

The levelcap is fine. However, it could be tweaked to take a bit longer to reach it, increase the gaps between the levels.

I agree with these two.

New Vegas took a step in the right direction by not judging the amount of exp you get based on the difficulty you play, so that even less skilled players can still enjoy the benefits of the big exp kills. However, reaching level 30 in both FO3, and NV was fairly easy to the point where I didn't even feel like I deserved being level 30. It was just.. there. In fact, it just felt like I had reached the end of my character's progression rather than feeling accomplished at said progression.

The 30 cap, along with how NV has set it up with a perk per 2 levels, is fine by me, but getting there too quickly is what's irking me a bit.

I finished the game the first time on normal by level 20. I had a point in swift learner and Here and Nowed. This means I 'threw away' 20% of my perks. I'm going back to replay the game after beating it. At level 20 I was a wrecking machine. I'd hate to see what the same build would do at thirty. Oh well. I guess that's what hard and very hard difficulties are for ;)

I think the level cap is perfect.. but instead they shoulda made it take like 5x longer to level and make level 30 perks... theres no extra special level 30 perks.. if level 30 is the LAST level there should at least be some awsome perk choices for it.

I didn't say it broke the game. I just exaggerated how easy it made it.
