Anyone disappointed by the info so far?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 5:46 am

I was kind of excited when they announced it, but after reading the GI article I'm pretty disappointed.

Graphics - they look pretty good.

Radiant Story - stuff like this sounds good in theory, but turns into a complete nuisance in actual gameplay. Just make it simple, and give me the option to do all the quests no matter what my race, class, background, in-game decisions, etc. I hate hate HATE being cut off from a quest because of some decision I made in game. Very disappointed by this aspect.

Leveling - level-scaling 100% svcks ball sack and I can't believe they're bringing it back even one iota after all the grief they got for it in Oblivion. I don't know how many times the community has to say it, but I'll say it once more: WE DON'T WANT LEVEL SCALING. NADA. NOTHING. ZILCH. I might not even buy the game if it's the same sort of level scaling that Oblivion had.

Combat - I don't like realistic combat. I like fun combat. Legend of Zelda is a perfect example. Not very realistic, but tons & tons of fun. When I hit someone with a hammer I want them to go flying. I don't want to get juked or blocked by a shield and then have them stab me three times while I lose my balance. I remember using an Oblivion mod that slowed backwards movement down. Turned that mod off immediately. Combat needs to be fast paced, fluid, and fun. And the whole dual wielding thing sounds clunky and awkward. I'll have to see a video, but from the article it sounds like combat has taken a big step in the wrong direction.

Menu design - sounds super dumb. I don't give a rats rearend about constellations and such. Just give me the info in a clear organized manner. DarnifiedUI is perfect. Just build THAT into the game.

Story line - actually sounds kind of cool.

Dragons - awesome.

Dragon speak abilities - sounds pretty awesome.

And I can't believe they didn't cover epic items and boss encounters. These are probably the two things I was most interested in, and not a single mention. Most likely it means these aspects went neglected which is a shame. I want my epix and I want them hard to find, and guarded by epic bosses that I have to fight in an epic manner to win.

Sigh. Overall very disappointed by this article.

Where is everyone getting this 100% level scaling form
All I read was that there would be SOME level scaling mostly in the random quest

Seriously.... when did level scaling from a randomly generated quest=the whole game is level-scaled?

And I really like all the info so far. Eagerly awaiting more.

The level scaling is the one thing I'm concerned about, but I will give them the benefit of a doubt and assume it is maybe only for randomized quests? Just to keep your char busy no matter what the level or what guilds/factions/MQ mission he's on.

IF they scale stuff like the enemies for the MQ or for a guild I will be...angry.

None of this information seemed that radical to me. Am I the only one that's not surprised. If I had to pick, I say the main story underwhelmed me a bit (dragon hunters), but if they get the details right I'm sure it will be cool.

I doubt Bethesda decided to ignore everyone's complaints about level scaling and remake oblivion. And the radiant story will only up the replay value.

That radiant story is obviously a marketing line. I murder a shopkeeper and loot the store then his sister appears in his place to offer me the exact same quests and inventory after giving me a stern talking too. Sorry Beth that isn't how people behave. And dropping a sword in the street obviously won't work since having people fight over the gold brand I just dropped would lead to everyone in town dead when I keep doing it.

I am not disappointed. Nothing really makes me believe that it will be a bad game yet.

The thing about level scaling is that Bethesda and GI *knew* it was a huge deal. Probably the biggest complaint by far everyone had about Oblivion. I mean, countless hours were spent by modders literally re-writing the entire game to take level scaling out. The fact that they didn't "squash it dead" so to speak really makes me worried. The whole article seems half-assed and vague. Maybe I'm just mad at the article and Skyrim will be a great game...

Yea the graphics are indeed pretty good.

So you don't want consequence? I actually really like the idea of choice affecting your furture.

Leveling - level-scaling 100% svcks ball sack and I can't believe they're bringing it back even one iota after all the grief they got for it in Oblivion. I don't know how many times the community has to say it, but I'll say it once more: WE DON'T WANT LEVEL SCALING. NADA. NOTHING. ZILCH. Oblivion level-scaling is not happening, we have extremely little info on level-scaling other than it's closer to fallout 3 than oblivion

I'll have to see a video, but from the article it sounds like combat has taken a big step in the wrong direction.

What exactly makes you think the combat wont be fluid?

Menu design - sounds super dumb. I don't give a rats rearend about constellations and such. Just give me the info in a clear organized manner. DarnifiedUI is perfect. Just build THAT into the game.

Ye I don't like what we know about the menues either honestly, fonds are WAY too big-

Story line - actually sounds kind of cool.

I agree, it's pretty kewl imo

Dragons - awesome.

I actually don't like the idea of more than 2-3 dragons, ruins the uniqueness of them-

Dragon speak abilities - sounds pretty awesome.

I'm very much on the fence about this

And I can't believe they didn't cover epic items and boss encounters. These are probably the two things I was most interested in, and not a single mention. Yea I'm really disapointed that they didn't mention anything about unique items :S really hope they cover that at same point. I think the whole dragon thing confirms boss encounters though

I could not disagree with you more on this point, I felt that it was cheesy and lame that you could do anything and everything in Oblivion with no consequence at all, "I AM THE HEAD OF THE MAGES GUILD DISPITE HAVING NO TRAINING IN MAGIC WHATSOEVER AH HA HA HA, also I am head of the fightes guild, the theives guild, the hero of Tamriel and a bloodthirsty killer who is also a holy paladin, huzzah". I love the idea of seeing different content based on my actions as it makes each playthrough unique, I dont want every bit of content handed to me on a platter and I dont want to be able to do everything in one playthrough and see no consequences, I want each playthrough to be different with different characters experiencing a different journey.

That being said it remains to be seen how this radiant story turns out, I mean they made these promises with the radiant AI in Oblivion and we all remember how that turned out. Also I am worried about the part where it is said "Hey guys, if you kill an important quest giver his sister gives you the quest anyway, huzzah", shouldnt one of the major consequences of killing a quest giver be that you no longer get the quest and anyone who is related to the quest giver now hates you? Oh well at least that implies that we may actually be able to kill quest givers this time around so at least that is something.

In my opinion the article presented me with some good features, some major bad ones (on paper), but every single damn one of them was vague. I don't know how they'll blend together or how this game will turn out, but at this point I don't have much faith.

also im not sure how you can make assumptions about the combat when we have not seen it in action. also as others have said, the level scaling in the article is referring to the radiant quests

There aren't "Boss encounters and Epic items" in TES. This isn't WoW. As for Radiant Story, it makes you have consequences for your actions, like real life. You can't just go around and slaughter everyone in the world and then you go on along with your happy go lucky life. All the TES games had level scaling. Oblivion put it to the whole game, the other games had it to certain quests and encounters. As for combat, you want a hack and slash game, a hack and slash TES is not. Diabo should feed your Hack and Slash lust, it sure does mine  But for my RPG lust it's all TES baby. The menu design is organized well from what I saw, it looks nice too and all that matters is that it is efficient and looks good doing it. Overall what your looking for is a Hack and Slash MMO from the things you have said here and you should look for that. When you want an RPG come back here.

This is the only thing that disappoints me about this article as well. As far as the info I have gathered I'm very excited and cannot wait to see it all in motion. That is when a game really shines.

Didn't a Dev say that we would be surprised at how much information would be released in the article? I can't quite remember what was released for Oblivion let alone Morrowind when they were announced. I guess what i'm getting at is this a lot of Information as compared to when they released information for Oblivion and Morrowind? Seems like they could have cleared up a few things.

Honestly, when playing Morrowind, I never really noticed the leveled scaling. Or maybe I just didn't get very far in levels. hehe
