Anyone else constantly getting fiddled by merchants? (bug)

Post » Sun Jan 31, 2016 2:27 am

I try and sell a load of stuff to the merchant, select all the items I want to sell, then hit the confirm button to complete the transaction and WHAM, they take all the inventory but I do not receive the caps!!!!

I have lost count the amount of times this has happened. This happened in New Vegas too with the Gunrunners vendor DLC. But thankfully it was just that vendor it happened with. In Fallout 4 it happens with any merchant.

Another thing which is annoying, though not a bug.....when you want to get your rads healed by a doctor and also trade with him. After he heals your rads, the option to barter is not among the choices when he asks you if there is anything else you want. Have to back right out of the conversation, move away from him then return and re-initiate a conversation with him to get the barter option up.

2nd part first: That's right. When you choose to go into the heal menu, there's only 4 choices - cure addiction, cure rads, heal, go back.

I haven't heard of the bug you are talking about though, in either game. When selling, you should be highlighting or selecting the item, then (if on PC) hitting 'e', then 'r' to confirm transaction. When you say they take all the inventory, are you talking about all your inventory, or just the stuff you are selling? Also, what is happening with the value of your items you are selling, if highlighted, the vendor has enough caps for the transaction, if it's greyed out, they don't.

To me this sounds like you are selling a bunch of stuff that they don't have caps for? Each merchant has a limited amount of caps to buy stuff with, and there is even a pop up that says so when you sell more than they can afford, when you say OK, then they give you all the caps they have and yeah, you don't get caps for stuff they have no caps for, it's like you are just giving it to them for free.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, I've never had nor heard of this issue before if it's not user error.

They can only give you the caps they have, you can sell 3,500 caps worth of stuff but if they only have 400 caps whch is shown on the right at the start and you click the confirm, you will only get 400 caps but they will get all the gear.

I have earlier experienced that if I continued to trade after I confirmed the first trade, the trade amounts was showed with the pos/neg mark, but I did not receive money from the merchant when I confirmed again. After that I always close the dialog after the first trade.

Just the items I am selling.

Say a vendor in Bunker Hill has about 700 caps.....and I sell off a bunch of items to them that I should get a total of 400 caps for.

When I hit confirm to complete the transaction......they take the items (just the ones I chose to sell) but I do not get the 400 caps. The Merchants inventory screen still shows them as having 700 caps.

I would say there is approximately a 20% chance this will happen every time I try to barter with a merchant. I am playing the PS4 version.

This happened for me also with New Vegas on the Xbox 360......but only with the DLC Gunrunners merchant.

No they definitely have the caps for it. Usually I buy out all their Rad Aways before attempting to sell off my own stuff. They often have well over 2000 caps to barter with at this point. No matter what I sell.....they take the items I sell and their cap amount does not even decrease.
