I'm okay with it. But then, I'm not a person who plays very many games for their combat systems.

The console won't have hotkeys. The PC version will, though.

@TheFriendlyBear - It's also old news.

I don't believe there was any official info on it until now (That it pauses the game.)

However I did have a feeling...

I'd rather be able to take my time with menus, so I'd prefer it pauses.

Modifications=problem solved

do you know of any mods for Oblivion that allow the game to continue during menus?

It's probably just too clunky to do in real time.

What's the dpad for?

Don't know. I know that 'up' opens the Favorites Menu, but they haven't said what the rest do.

@TheFriendlyBear - "Instead, pressing up on the D-pad pauses the action and pulls up a favorites menu."

Hopefully the other seven directions are instant-access bookmarks, and only the up direction pauses the game.

Hm, missed that I suppose. Either way, I don't see too many threads on this topic.

And I still don't like the idea :(

it's a very console centric change, and most likely a required mod for pc oblivion play will be a new UI mod...

/sadface.

I don't follow this arguement. More PC rpgs that I've played have had "pause" while rooting around in your pack or choosing commands, while many of the console RPGs I've played have had some sort of "active time" combat system where you'd get your butt handed to you because the enemy kept attacking while you tried to pick the potion you wanted to use.

The biggest reason that I almost never use potions in Oblivion is because I hate to pause the game in the middle of combat. I can play with either turn-based or real-time combat, but my opinion is that if it's going to be real-time, it should be real-time. If it's not going to be, don't bother.

But you didn't have to pause to use potions, set it to your quick menu.(hotkeys)

Still sounds quick and intuitive to me. Preview articles said Todd was swapping play styles pretty quick.

If you are talking realism or immersion, is changing weapons or fumbling around for potions mid-combat very plausible? If there is no hot-key function, and I can't believe there wont be, resign yourself to sticking with what you're stuck with, for lack of a better phrase. I think magic is where this logic breaks down somewhat, but even that follows a like reasoning.

It will be quick but not fluid. Plus, I know some people that will have that menu have like 30 setups and they'll be rummaging through it for 2 minutes looking for that one setup they want.

Ideally, each of the eight directions could be either a single instant-access loadout or a list that pauses the game. That way, you could organize your favorites into separate lists if you want, or use all slots for instant access items if you want.

Exactly my point. Which I don't want.

Well, it's not like they're going to come over to your house and force 30 different options into your menu. :)

Ah, I knew I had seen at least one article claim that D-Pad bookmarks were instant. Here it is:

You'll be able to set favorites, too, like bookmarks for your items. By doing this, you'll be able to quickly and easily access the items in real time with a simple press of the D-pad.

Emphasis mine.

Nice! So not all is lost :)

I still wish Favorites Menu wouldn't pause game though.

I'll add your quote to my main post

I really hope PC version has fully customizable hotkeys for favorites.

Being forced to use a pausing radial menu = fail. Even Witcher2 has a slow-mo radial menu but they were smart enough to also attach every choice to a keybind.

The day the GI article came out, Gstaff confirmed that the PC version will have hotkeys.

I prefer paused menu's. I kind of figure my character would know where he put his potions, dagger whatever. He wouldn't be rooting around for a minute looking for it like you inevitable do with menus.

Depends on the pc rpg in question obviously more tactical group c(character)RPG's yeah of course you'll have a pause because it's a tactical/character rpg not an action rpg..

Which console RPG are you speaking of.
