Anyone else feel like they've been completely had?

Post » Tue Apr 16, 2013 5:17 pm

What with the comments from Bethesda last year "we're not done with Skyrim by a long way" and "expect loads more content in 2013". And now the announcement theat there will be no more DLC. We could have been told this months ago to be honest, instead of just being strung along. Is this really the way to treat a loyal fanbase?
I don't know about anyone else but I feel we're being laughed at, anybody else feel the same way?

No. Bethesda most likely struggled with the decision for a long time and there is no reason to assume that they've been just trolling us or something.
My guess is that the announcement of next gen consoles was the last straw to bury the game, and the final decision was made just recently.

No. I can understand people being disappointed about no more DLC, but I think people are taking some of it out of proportion to think this is an untrustworthy act from Bethesda. I don't doubt they had something planned but just couldn't do it.

I totally agree, is like Bethesda giving us the middle finger treatment after their hype about delivering more contends this year...

Bethesda is a business. If they decided not to do any more DLCs, it's because of the all mighty dollar, not to laugh at the fans. TES is a HUGE part of Bethesda, they are not going to take anything lightly.

I don't feel betrayed, no.

Bethesda really blew me away with how they've handled Skyrim. Mostly with how they kept introducing entirely new features into the game that didn't really need to be there. Such as horse-mounted combat, new kill cams, new difficulty levels, etc.

And I feel the DLC they did release was made entirely for the fans' pleasure. I remember people complaining about how shallow being a vampire was, how there weren't any clans to join like there was in Morrowind. Then Dawnguard was released. People have been wishing they could revisit Morrowind for years, since Oblivion, and they threw us a bone with Dragonborn.

While I was surprised to hear that no more DLC is planned, and I am admittedly disappointed, I believe that Bethesda really made an effort to give us (the majority, anyway) what we were asking for. Or at least what they thought we wanted. Either way.

I have actually run my own business for 15 years and wouldn't dream of stringing my paying clients along for months on end, I think maybe a client liason employee would go a long way with keeping the loyal fanbase up to date once every couple of weeks would go a long way.

I can live with no more DLC, though I'm disappointed we didn't get to see Hammerfell, and though I'm unlikely to get a nextgen console anytime soon. But I feel that if they were unsure whether more DLC was coming, they should have said that much.

Obviously they didn't please everyone, and they definitely could have done more, but I'm just taking some solace in believing they tried to do right by the fans.

They released a half developed game and now the next generation of consoles is coming so they scrap the project to go where the money will be. It's that simple.

They spent seven years of their life on this game. There is always a time when you must say "stop". And I don't feel like I've been had at all; this game will give me many months more of fun. :)

Partially just because we found out quite a time after DB was released.

I paid a total of $53, pre-tax, for Skyrim, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. I got 700+ hours of entertainment. I do not feel cheated at all. But I do not agree with Bethesda's decision to tell us one thing and deliver another.

They should say that though rather than putting up the "It was great, but we're just ready to move on" front.

Betrayed? No. Disgusted? Yes. We could have been told this right after DB came out for PS3 instead of strung along. They have left too many hamging threads as I posted on another thread.

They should, but won't. Very few game developers are honest about their intentions, and always speak in the most vague manner. Why, I can't tell, but that's the norm in the industry.

This is the case in every industry - more or less to the extent that it is in this case, anyway. Business is all about making money, you know.

They released a half developed game and now the next generation of consoles is coming so they scrap the project to go where the money will be. It's that simple.

Speaking of which...

Of course any business in this field*, hoping to survive at all, will follow the console generations. This is where the money is. And that is what business is about.

Eesh.

If you don't like the way a particular business, er... does business, don't give them your money. It is that simple.

* Except for those dedicated to PC game creation, which yes, is still feasible for a few, but ony in specific ways, and these ways are not at all Oblivion/Skyrim/FO3/FO:NV ways, let's just say.

I am of the ones that think that maybe unexpected technical limitations may stuck the whole project.
It saddens me but well. We must move on and say thanks for this great game. I dont feel trolled or cheated.
