What bothers me... well, actually infuriates me... about Skyrim is how many broken quests there are. Windhelm is especially full of them, to the point I hate to go to that town. I've just hit a new one: "Repairing the White Phial". One of the things needed is a Briar Heart. I now have 5 stuck in my inventory, including the specific one I was sent to get. (The only way I've found to get them out of my inverntory is to eat them... but don't bother, even though I ate all i had on me before I collected the Briar Heart indicated by the quest, the quest didn't update to recognize I'd collected the proper one.) Right Forsworn Briarheart (white arrow over his head... that never goes away), right heart, no update. That was a lot of work for nothing.
Skyrim is a glitchfest, Oblivion wasn't. Oblivion was one of my favorite games of all time, I played the main game and all its add-ons over and over as different sorts of characters. Finally had to stop when I realized I knew what was around every corner.
Yes, Skyrim graphics are great, and the stereo sound is amazing... and I don't want to forget the great Smithing and Enchanting possibilities... but I play games for the story. Though there are some amazing flashes of brilliance in the main questline, overall it fails. Since Skyrim's questlines don't update after you complete them, including the two major questlines, as a whole, the Skyrim story is severely broken. In all honesty, though Oblivion did recognize when you completed a questline, otherwise it was very muted... but, HEY! at least it RECOGNIZED the quest was completed!
If I was grading Skyrim, it would get an A for graphics and sound... and crafting... and a D for quests, sliding toward F for all the broken/uncompletable quests, and the almost total lack of recognition that any of the quests, even the two major ones, had been completed.
Wonder if I can play Oblivion again yet without knowing everything that's going to happen everywhere I go?
