Is anyone else going back to Oblivion?

Not a chance. Modded Skyrim is already far better, and will only improve more over time.

I still miss the living world. The people i these "small" towns aren't really talking to each other (only the few scripted things all the time). In Oblivion even the Guards were talking to each other. In Skyrim they seem to ignore themself. And as i mentioned the Player is the highest ignorant in the game ;)

for me (don't have the rig to run high end games) all I have is vanilla games. I have put 208 hours into my first playthrough so far and am just about to finish the main quest. On oblivion, I don't think I ever hit the 200 hour mark, and this is with shivering Isles. So yeah, for me, Vanilla Skyrim>Vanilla Oblivion.

Most NPC "radiant" conversations in Oblivion ended up being total gibberish though.

I'll probably revisit Oblivion when the time is right, BUT try another type of character in the http://www.nehrim.de/indexEV.html (which replaced the whole Oblivion world (new map, new quests, new everything - pretty awesome suprise when I first played the mod)).

Maybe but they were at least talking. In Gothic 3 they talked weird stuff too. But even then it added live to the town. In Skyrim it seems like they avoid each other and only Nazeem is mocking everyone in Whiterun for example.

Not at all. The atmosphere was inferior, there were too many ways to game the system, and closing Oblivion gates got boring after a while. I can't think of many things where Oblivion hasn't been surpassed by Skyrim. The quest log is about the only thing where Oblivion was superior.

Really, i guess you never did the enchant blacksmith thing in Skyrim to be godlike in a few days, or find the right giant camp and max out sneak and then you become invisible and godlike. Theres plenty to game in this game. And your at level 50 to boot before you get a third of the quests done. And the quest are extremely shallow and in my opinion, gives the feel of being built by someone thats either never played a TES game, or is just flat out lazy. What skyrim does have is good graphics, content however is severely lacking, the worst i've ever seen in an Elder Scrolls game. Sure there is a gazillion quests but their quality rates right up there with the first quests I made the first time i opened up the CS for morrowind. Short and simple.

Oblivion was fun for what it was at it's time. And over the years I've gone back to it, and then left it again, and then went back to it. But I haven't done so at all in the past year or so, and I don't believe I'll be returning to it anytime soon. Perhaps somewhere down the road, I may load it up again, but I'm far more excited to continue my journeys in Skyrim, and explore the creation kit and all the cool mods that will undoubtedly come from it.

I guess I'm in the minority here, because I really detest fighting dragons. First, because I just don't like dragons in any fantasy world. Second, they made them too weak and mundane. Third, I don't usually play ranged characters, so it's annoying having to wait for them to land (until you get THAT shout, but I refuse to touch the main quest ever again.) I liked the concept of Oblivion Gates better as gateways to what was effectively HELL itself =)

The daedra invasion was annoying and gave too much of a sense of urgency, more than random dragon spawns. I'd prefer not to trigger the main quests soon in either one, but I like Oblivion less.
Not really, you only found about the daedra when you looked for Martin. If you don't go for Martin, you can do whatever you want untill you decide to do the main quest. So dead king giving you his necklace and him wanting you to be his mail boy vs escaping jail because dragons are back, I think Skyrim is more urgent. I'm going back to Morrowind then Oblivion.

No, I won't go back to Oblivion, at least not right now. Skyrim is a much better game.

I love Oblivion and I played it to death, so I'd rather leave it lying there on the golden grassfield of good memories, at least for now. In the future, when I'm in the mood for some nostalgic trip to the past, I'll play it again.

Skyrim is superior and I still have not become tired of it.

Yes i do go back. In fact i just bought another copy of oblivion for steam (I have it on 360 as well). The detail in Skyrim is amazing but there really isn't a whole bunch to do thats actually worth doing after you beat the Story line and the faction quests. I have more fun exploring in oblivion. I can't describe to you what it is but... i just dont have as much fun in Skyrim as i do in Oblivion.

I loved Oblivion alot just like most people here and put in my 300+ hours and tbh I think its a better game than Skyrim but I'm not going to go back to it. I will leave it at the "better than" stage and keep with Skyrim hoping modders can make it something I can play for a long time.

Probably not. For one, I only have Oblivion on PS3 (was going to get that + MW on steam but they lied about the 50% off deal ending jan 20 and ended jan 1st <_<) plus I have boughten so many great games from the steam holiday sales that I just wouldn't have the time.

I love Oblivion. I'll never leave it permanently. I just can't compare the two games- each one of them has something about it that I love, and it's unfair to compare Skyrim's graphics to Oblivion's anyway, since there's a 5 year gap between them both.

I play them both and enjoy them both, and that's all that matters.

And if you want a game with a mind-boggling array of stats, requirements and lengthy, roundabout quests, play Daggerfall! I've had that game for years and still haven't made it through the MQ yet. I really need to finish that some time. I always get distracted by doing something silly like finding a new kind of house to buy or trying to find all the paintings.

I could see myself going back to Oblivion, but only with a lot of mods installed. That was already the only way I was willing to play it. Same goes for Morrowind. Eventually I decide my TES games need some kind of overhaul mods to keep them fresh. I think I spent three days fiddling with Wrye Bash to get the last Oblivion setup I had working nicely.

I really want to play daggerfall, because its several years since I played it for a considerable amount of time. I've tried it from time to time but I always feel sick while playing it. Real nausea. It must be the graphics combined with first person view. It's a shame because I'm playing Zork, Kings quest and the Myst games when I need a break from Skyrim. Daggerfall would be a great alternative. It introduced me to an evolved fantasy rpg-genre compared to the earlier games.

I've actually tried oblivion just a couple of weeks ago. Tried the thieves guild questline. But I had problems getting excited. I really don't know why. Good storyline but feels like grinding. I think sneaking isn't as fun as in Skyrim. Well, I'm not a magic char, never was, but I know the possibilities in spells are pretty good in Oblivion.
But maybe its as simple as that I've changed since 2006. Then I thought it was the best game I've played. Now in retrospect I feel Morrowind is a better game and Skyrim is the best. We will see in a couple of years if I have changed my mind.

Go back to Oblivion? Of course I will. But I am having too much fun with Morrowind right now. Maybe I will even try Daggerfall again afterward (perhaps the next time I won't be killed by the first rat I meet  ). But I will always go back to a great game like Oblivion.
