Anyone else hate Boone?

Lichmisfit: If you've never been in a situation like that before you cant really understand what its like, when you have chaos and gunfire going on around you everything gets really confusing and even the very best soldiers can get mixed up and not know whats going on around them. The term they use for it is the fog of war, because its like being in a fog.

Ummm, Craig Boone is a character in a video game.... the people he killed and his wife and unborn child never existed. I'm pretty sure this argument is getting superfluous.

That and Raul is still way cooler, he calls me Boss in a sardonic way and makes me doubt my decisions as a leader.

have any of you guys read a book called "All Quiet on the Western Front?" It's a really nice book, and I'd recommend it. I won't spoil anything, but it may help you understand the things soldiers go through and might make you appreciate Boone more. Try viewing it from his perspective: try living with the guilt of having murdered innocents, and not being there to protect your wife and child as they're dragged off into slavery. Is it wrong of him to want to end it all, or to kill every Legion-affiliated person he sees?

Another thing, after his quest, when you help Boone deal with his problems, you become more than just two people travelling together. You truly become friends with Boone, friends watching out for each other. I know that (after I've helped him get his life back together, at least) when he says, "I've got your back," he really means it.

Nothing is cut & dried in a two way rifle range. The average soldier dosnt have the full picture. He is told what to do & when to do it. As stated above we are trained to react with out thinking because thinking can get you & your mates killed. Dont forget thst many woman, old people & kids are/have been combatant's over the centuries.

No, my problem with him is his relationship and history with his 'wife'.

Try finding the woman of your dreams, marry her, and have to kill her with your own gun. I'm pretty sure your life would svck too.

Bitter Springs is just the Khans being emo over losing a major battle. They have no real structure for their "army" and exist more as a warrior tribe where everyone fights, strung out on drugs, and with each other a lot of the time. They are one step up from the fiends, but Obsidian tried to give them some redeeming qualities in this game while they were portrayed as complete [censored]s in FO 1 and 2.

I don't hate him, but what I do hate is when he constantly holsters and un-holsters his weapon when we're in range of enemies that he can't see. This happens mostly in Vaults.

Just a quick point; you're supposed to hate Boone. In the GECK, he has a charisma of 1. That means he's got the personality of a bloatfly.

On the new Vegas scale, 1 charisma is below creepy undertaker and Old Hermit. Think about that for a second. An old hermit, who lives on his own, and never talks to anyone, is TWICE as friendly and nice to talk to as Boone.

So yeah. If you don't like him, it means the game succeeded.

Kris, unfortunately It happens everywhere. Boone acts that way in combat because they broke him on an early patch. I posted about it many times since last December along with many others and finally Josh Sawyer posted about the broken Boone problem but I don't know yet when a new patch will have the fix for it.

On this thread, you can see it at post #37, 38 and the links I posted on that thread lead to the Craig Boone Warn Fix mod that will fix him if you're on PC. If not, he's still broken. I'm waiting for the fix on my PS3.

Josh, I have to ask who'll be working on fixing what's wrong with Boone.

I forwarded those links to Bethesda folks. In the past, every thread I've seen where someone has complained to me about Boone being broken has simply suggested that Boone is broken without articulating what, exactly, the problem is.

And to Rivendell, that video still makes me cry, Thanks from me too, LC. Boone's story is a tragic love story and that's just another reason it's so compelling. Great writing.

More like marry her to make himself feel better, sounds selfish to me.

All we know is Boone serve her like a queen. While the source are biased, Boone made no account to dismiss them.

And? She was pretty high maintenance, and if he didn't mind catering to her whims then what's the problem? Obviously, Boone still wore the pants in the relationship, because they were staying in Novac despite his wife's disapproval of the place.

It's hilarious how a thread about me disliking Boone for having a Charisma of 1 (thanks for pointing that out, Low-key!), turned into a thread discussing whether or not the Bitter Springs massacre was justified.

Honestly, being as how Boone is the quintessential action hero-type, he could've really done with some good one-liners (or bad ones that he thinks are funny)... at least once he opens up to the player.

Surely you've been in online forums long enough not to be surprised by threads rapidly going way off on tangents...

I'm more shocked at how I missed out on another craze that this thread has turned into.
This one where every reaction was based on emo or not emo rating... crazy kids.
I'll have to start one where Boone is ranked on an Elmo scale, at least this would allow the one liner "Elmo says yipee ki yay mother legionaire."

All this said though Boone's Boone, and luckily no one has have to take him if you don't like him.. though Elmo likes Boone, and his red hat.

I like Boone, he's a serious person and doesn't mess around. Although he is a little buggy. He makes a kill and every now and then says.. must have got away..
Not sure why he says that. I personally prefer Veronica because she talks allot and says some funny things.

Except she is "persuaded' to run for the legion?

but they were not in between them and the enemy they WERE the enemy! it not a case of a civilian accidentally being mistaken for enemy its a case of mindless soldiers blindly following order and not think for themselfs

Watch this...

Miscommunications happen all the time. They are common they happened in Vietnam and WW2. Just because a army makes a mistake doesn't mean its bad or that soldier not ceasing fire doesn't mean hes bad its just that hes following orders that were given to him...
