Anyone else having Gamestop mess with their Pipboy Pre-order

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 9:12 pm

For anyone thinking of picking up the Gamestop "Complete Pipboy Edition" bundles...

I preordered the Fallout 4 PC Pipboy Edition on Gamestop. After 5 months of waiting, believing I had secured my order, i received an email saying my credit card was declined. Except Gamestop has repeatedly attempted to charge my credit card with odd sums of money. They blame my credit card, but i have tried to use 3 cards. All the same result. Gamestop have refused any further help on the matter... The order isn't listed as cancelled but I see no way to resolve the matter with those bozos.

I would have ordered the Pipboy Edition locally from EBgames but they sold out too quickly.

Gamestop appears to have done this to several customers.

I now see Gamestop are offering a "Pipboy Bundle" for $189.95... I suspect they are cancelling legit customer orders to create this new stock?

I've been a Fallout fan since the first game and this was meant to be a Christmas present. Which looks like it will now be a disappointing Christmas. :-(

Super bummed out about this. It's just a piece of plastic, right?

/J

No trouble here.

Paid the minimum $5.00 when it showed up back in June, and have paid it off in cash in store after that.

Sending the package to the store and grabbing it midnight.

If it's not too late, I'd call your credit card company and let them know you are actually trying to make a purchase through gamestop. When I opened my new credit card a month ago, I tried buying something from gs, but the NEW card was declined. Turns out a lot of credit cards don't trust gamestop purchases and frequently decline the purchase until you call the card company and say, yea, it's me. Really frustrating.

Edit: And the whole international country thing may be causing problems too.

Canadian here.

Mine was online too. I paid the $5.00 minimum like I said, locking in a pre-order online when the Pip-Boy Edition surfaced on their site, and have since just walked into the store handing them my cash to pay it off.

There's been no trouble.

The credit card bit is your fault....not gamestop's....they sent emails to all Pip-Boy preorder people late october warning us that the paiments would be collected today(November 4th) and to make sure our payment methods were up to date. If something went wrong with the cards you need to contact your bank and figure out what.....if your card expired in the last fie months and you renewed it(even if it still has the same number) you should have still renewed it on gamestop's website with the new expiration date. At any rate....it sounds like if there was any mistake it was on your bank's part, not gamestop's.

As for odd charges....sound like someone's got your card information and is using it. Why haven't you called your bank and gamestop to ask questions about the odd charges before now? Sounds like your info was stolen by someone who likes shopping at gamestop.

My credit card(s) are fine. Gamestop have made repeated attempts to charge my card - only in the past 24 hours since Gamestop charged me for my pre-order. So no one has been using my card to shop at gamestop.

I've told my financial company to approve any and all gamestop transactions and asked Gamestop via email to re-bill me the charge. Fingers crossed it works this time.

The odd charges are nothing unusual - lots of credit card processors do that when they are essentially "testing" to see if the card is valid and will be accepted before running the expected charge some days later. Nothing unusual about it, except that the account security settings for some peoples' banks reject the charges, especially if it's not from a vendor or credit card processor you might usually use. Had that happen to me once and my bank "locked" my card. Before I got it straightened out, the big charge tried to go through a day or so later but was declined.

Fortunately, I pre-ordered from Amazon, whom I use all the time. My order is still intact (as of 5 minutes ago anyway!)

Then the problem is with your financial company for not approving the payments.....that's not gamestop's fault though....hopefully they get your issue fixed but even if not, you can't blame gamestop for this one. If anyone deserves your anger here it's your financial company.

We'll see how Gamestop resolves it. They have special status on my card to put anything through on there from now till the 8th... I've followed their instructions and my order is listed as "open" on their site... so not all lost yet!

In over a decade of online shopping, I've never had that happen.

I would have pre-ordered from Amazon but they won't ship games to Australia...

As long as it's still listed as Open it should still be a matter that can be fixed and if both GameStop and your bank are tracking what happened and what needs to happen you should be straight.

It may not be a common thing in Australia, but like I said, it's been done in the U.S. for years (my first eBay purchase was in 2001 :P).

Yeah, same.

I did that specifically to avoid a scenario where my cc might not have the funds on whatever (unknown to me) day they'd decide to charge it.

I got a call from a GameStop employee saying Peter Hines would be at the store I pre-ordered Fallout 4 from and that he would be giving out prizes at midnight.

Can you maybe open up a paypal account and register you card on there, then use paypal instead? or can you not change your payment method anymore? Wow, that svcks man. I reall hope things clear up for you.

I got the Steam version to avoid the hassle, but my story of giving up on physical retailers isn't going to help you.

Best of luck, man.

I don't know about Peter Hines but giveaways at midnight releases are very common.....pretty much every single midnight release I've been to has had giveaways with items related to the games releasing that night.....it's usually posters, shirts. toys....that kind of stuff. Now if you live in the same city as the studio making Fallout I guess Peter Hines might show up but I wouldn't doubt the bit about the prizes.

Gamestop two miles from me. I've never had any problems with the lovely young men working there.

-edit-

Do call your bank. It's not Gamestop's fault if they declined.

I really seriously doubt this is going to happen. I'm sure Mr. Hines has a ton of other things He must do.

Gamestop sound like how Game are here in the UK. There's been lots of cancelled orders blaming the customer's bank or Pay Pal account even though the person has the money.

Remember guys, they can pretty much cancel any order anytime if demand exceeds supply. Wouldn't be the 1st time...

I wouldn't be surprised if some retailers didn't do like airlines and intentionally "over-book," knowing there's a statistical likelihood that a measurable percentage of orders will cancel along the way or - as maybe happening with some retailers - the payment methods are rejected by "pre-authorization" test charges.
