Anyone else kind of bummed that there'll be no more Fallout

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 7:33 pm

Yep.... It's sad...it's all over I whole-heartedly agree with ya OP.

And I also agree that Obsidian should be making or at least writing Fallout from now on... I like elderscrolls an all but if Bethesda took the reigns again the writing and charecters would definatly take a hit...

N.V. might be the last best Fallout we adore.

O you silly people...

Fallout 3 had much better writing, and a few things they where weak on. Yes they can learn, and have from obsidian.

Nope, I think a nice break will be nice. I mean, I still have some DLC to buy/play and achievments to get. Also plan to undust my F3 GOTY and play it again. Then there's F1 and 2 to buy so I'd say no fallout for a long while is gonna be nice

It's reassuring that it's not only FONV apologists with selective memories who reply :P

As great as FONV is (not counting the godawful DLCs) ,the sheer unique, vast experience of something like FO3 at the time of it's release, is unparralleled in many players experiences, commanding a level of respect if you will.
If you're jonesing for Fall Out, do yourself a favor and remind yourself what FO3 actually is.

So... people can't have opinions? I like New Vegas more than Fallout 3. Was the Fallout 3 experience more unique to me? Yes, it was the first game like that I played. I do think Obsidian did a lot of things better, though. Not everything. Bethesda had the better world and exploration, but that's not all there is to the game.

But, of course, if I don't agree with you then I'm just an "apologist," right?

I liked FO3 as well as FO:NV almost equally. Sure the story in FO:NV was more detailed and had more thought put in it but I liked FO3 for what it was and I easily put 400 game hours in FO3 compared to just 221 Hours in FO:NV.

As far as missing updates for FO:NV, I have to say I will some but there are always mods that can be downloaded to breathe new life into the games. I got a new mod for FO3 that removes that horrible tint inside and outside to go with the lighting mod. I will go back to it eventually when I grow tired of New Vegas.

I just hope the next FO game is what I would like to see. I would like to see a future fall out game to take place in a location that we already been at but take place pre holocaust. I dont know if its just me but I have thought what FO3 would have been like to wander DC before the bombs fell and the ending of the game was the bombs actually falling. Can see the communist like agenda of the US government and learn more and maybe meet some characters before they were turned into ghouls that you meet later on. I dont expect to see a game like this though but a person can always wish and dream.

You mirror my thoughts exactly again, except for the end. There's plenty of epic new games to tell, but they have GOT to return to a more urban apocolyptic vibe. They had to do so just to make the NV dlcs compelling. The one that they didn't...Honest Hearts...is widely regarded as the least compelling.

I would love to see them do New York. There are so many epic things they could do. But fully realize it. Let us interact with the Atlantic in a meaningful way. Don't confine us strictly to subways or a desert. Let us fully explore the destroyed remains of skyscraqers and their dizzying heights, including the 'tallest building in the world' (Empire State). Let's have a LOT more wrecked vehicles, more buildings to explore, mass amounts of people at the same time in settlements.

Let's see what the next engine can really do.

I would like to see New York, I would also like to see some major cities from Texas. Personally I think Houston would be a better location than Dallas considering you got history from ancient battle fields as well as having a warship local to the area. I would gladly buy a FO series that covered this, but from what I hear part of Texas was covered already and thus wont be covered again.

But I would love to see a major city where all the buildings have some way to access them. Maybe you use a satchell charge to blast a hole into the side of the building or to clear debris but you can explore all buildings including skyscraqers. Thats one thing I hated about FO3, all those buildings and 90% of them werent accessable. I mean sure have them blocked off but have a way to blast your way through and into the blocked areas. These invisable walls really kill the games for me. I want to explore and find prewar notes and terminals with back stories. That is the number one thing all my characters from FO3 and New Vegas do, they are all scavangers that seek out documents and prewar computer terminals.

Every gig ends guys. Wrap up the rifles and dig up the swords, Skyrim's coming in hot.

On second thought, leave the rifles. Battlefield 3 is coming too.

(Movie trailer voice) This november... gamers will be needing 60 hours a day...

In an ideal world, Bethesda and Obsidian would work together and co-develop it. JE Sawyer knows his guns and goes all-out in his research (I've seen pics of how similar the real Goodsprings and the game one is, it's uncanny, not to mention Zion- Bethesda are great researchers too, but they're more liberal with artistic license- you can tell that Washington DC is Washington DC, but it's different enough that it's not the DC that everyone knows), and Mr. Chris Avellone can write the hell out of just about anything (as can the other Obsidian designers).
But Bethesda are top-notch dungeon designers, and they're amazing at really upping the creepy The Hills Have Eyes factor with their mutants. But both studios write Great War holotapes that send chills up your spine.
I coudlnt say it better my self and I would love to see the next fallout on the new skrim engine I think it would look amazing and back to the main point of the topic i am sad its almost over but i feel as if i got my moneys worth out of it with just 6 charecters playing each of the out comes and the others to just have the ultimate charecter who has all items :) but there are other games comeing out that will fill my time (MW3,BF3,UC3) <---lol all ending in 3's apperntly and we still have GRA which will be fun to play through once more with those guns since they all are looking pretty amazing

Exactly. Make no mistake, when I said 'more buildings to explore, I ment that exactly. Ones we can explore, not just look at.

If I were a multi-millionaire, I would do a heavy dlc revision on F3, and it would all be making every single building accessible. It would blow minds. A girl can dream.

But revise New Vegas? (insert cricket chirps). It's just....nothing. It got a lot of things right. But where it went wrong is trying to convey Vegas. There's just nothing to it. Nothing. The development artwork in the book doesn't match it in any way. The vision far outstripped the engine. Add the visually bland desert setting, and it's just an experience I don't care to repeat again, at least for a long while. The dialogue is better than Fallout 3. It is not as fantastic as some players are making it out to be.

F3 had writing more than passable enough to keep me going. And unlike NV, the setting and visuals still leave me struck motionless with awe.

Opinions are a funny thing.

"FONV apologists"? You trollin', bro?
I loved FO3 despite its flaws, but I would also argue that New Vegas is superior in every conceivable way.

And the DLCs are glorious. Few video game stories have ever kept me as interested as Ulysses, the Sierra Madre, and the Second Battle of Hoover Dam.

I'll miss it but honestly decent games take time to make and cranking them out constantly would only kill the franchise so I think the breaks a good thing plu there are about 6 new games I'm picking up Rage, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, Assassins creed revolations, and the MGS HD bundle and then there the early releases next year Mass Effect 3 and Metro sounds interesting so theres no shortage of new games for me. And I'll always be able to revisit new vegas anytime I want and I probably will around Christmas break since I get a month off.

I remember exactly the moment I became totally mystified by Fallout 3. I had just left the vault for the first time and I decided to explore the school (I really had no idea what I was doing) and I heard the Raiders in there trash talking and threatening me and I was like, "what the [censored]?" - just speechless cause I never experienced anything like that in a game before. Every one here knows what Im talking about. I had no idea it was gonna be that good when I bought it.. haha.. I knew I would like it but not like that.

Then FNV comes along, GREAT game it is, but it's in a boring old desert. When people think Vegas they think a big city of lights and sounds and can't imagine how it could be post-apocalyptic. But still, just a boring old desert.

Fallout 1 took place in a boring old wasteland.
Fallout 2 took place in a boring old wasteland.
Fallout 3 took place in a boring old wasteland.

Folks who have adopted the perspective that New Vegas was nothing but a boring old desert really need to stop and think about the wide variety of stuff they got to do in that "boring old desert." Even a desert can be a lively place - trust me on this one.

How does a F3 apologist or Bethesda Defense Forces sound in return? :whistling:

F3 was good for me, the scenery, exploration... and that's about it.
I think the vision of the original Fallout makers needs more than endless dungeon grinding and post-apocalyptic tourism. That's why I prefer NV over F3.

But still would have liked Fallout 4 to be a joint effort. Like I said, Bethesda can handle the gameworld crafting and locations, while Obsidian does everything else.

It's an open world desert with nothing in it. In Fallout 3, it was chaos and all kinds of crazy [censored] goin on everywhere you went. The Mojave is just boring. Almost nothing ever happens.
