Anyone else kind of bummed that there'll be no more Fallout

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 11:20 pm

So Lonesome Road is out, and Gun Runner's Arsenal and Courier's Stash will be along anytime now, too. That's that. Obsidian will move on, and Bethesda will in all likelihood announce Fallout 4... in a year, maybe two.

Sure, I'll definitely use GRA as a chance to play with some new toys, and try a playthrough with them, as I'm sure others will, but that'll take me what, a couple of weeks, maybe a month? After that, there'll pretty much be no new Fallout for what will seem like forever.

So, is anyone else bummed to say goodbye to the Mojave?

I hope Bethesda outsources Fallout 4 to Obsidian. The writing in comparison to Fallout 3 is better, and a lot of updated mechanics Obsidian brought in were great. We just need better QA, and y'know, maybe an engine that isn't Gamebryo or some other derivative like the one they're using for Skyrim, because I have a feeling the Skyrim engine may also be as buggy.

They said it was a new engine for Skyrim but later confirmed that it was more or less just an updated gamebryo so I've got that feeling too.

Yep.... It's sad...it's all over I whole-heartedly agree with ya OP.

And I also agree that Obsidian should be making or at least writing Fallout from now on... I like elderscrolls an all but if Bethesda took the reigns again the writing and charecters would definatly take a hit...

N.V. might be the last best Fallout we adore.

In an ideal world, Bethesda and Obsidian would work together and co-develop it. JE Sawyer knows his guns and goes all-out in his research (I've seen pics of how similar the real Goodsprings and the game one is, it's uncanny, not to mention Zion- Bethesda are great researchers too, but they're more liberal with artistic license- you can tell that Washington DC is Washington DC, but it's different enough that it's not the DC that everyone knows), and Mr. Chris Avellone can write the hell out of just about anything (as can the other Obsidian designers).
But Bethesda are top-notch dungeon designers, and they're amazing at really upping the creepy The Hills Have Eyes factor with their mutants. But both studios write Great War holotapes that send chills up your spine.

Even if there's never another Fallout, New Vegas will go down in history as the best.

The Gamebyro engine needs to die in a pit of fire. :flamethrower: And honestly I don't want to see the next Fallout to be made exclusively by one studio or another. The combined amazing of New Vegas just needed a bit more Bethesda atmosphere and it woulda been perfecto.

I just hope that the next installment of Fallout is as good as FO3 and FNV mixed together. FO3 had wonderful graphics and gameplay and so did FNV. But I felt that FNV was sort of a step down from FO3 in spite of the updates made. I am looking forward to something great. :)

I just hope they keep the apocalyptic theme alive, I felt the theme start to slip in FNV. I didn't feel that I was in an apocalyptic world -- like the way I felt in FO3. In FNV I felt like I lived in a desert, with people that kill each other. It felt more like a survivor sandbox game more than an apocalyptic sandbox game. But that's just me, I know FNV relies more on survival than FO3 because in FO3 you were kind of spoon fed, but I think FNV slipped with the end of the world theme and FO3 had introduced so heavily. FNV also strays away from Vaults, which is what FO is founded upon. In FNV I never was FORCED to visit a single vault. I chose to explore 11, 21, 19 and 3. But FO3 has a decent balance of Vault exploration. Some Vaults like 108 and 92 you can choose to explore, but others like 112 and 87 you HAVE to explore.

I hope the next FO game will stick with the end of the world theme and the Vault theme because it's all that FO is known for, I'm just saying that FNV strayed from both and didn't feel as much as a Fallout game that all the others did.

Nope, I need a break from Fallout, so until Fallout 4 comes I'll be able to obsess(?) about other things.

I can't disagree more.

first off its been over 200 years, it cant stay truly post apocalyptic, secondly you have only been from a Vault in 2 out of 5 Fallout games, and the fact you were never forced to explore Vaults should be considered a good thing, as it adds more choice to the game.

Really I just want Bethesda to do something new because they can't really do Fallout properly.

One thing i always question when thinking about the future of fallout is, how far can you go before humanity will rebuild? i mean it can only go on for so long before realisticly humanity would have re-built itself new towns maybe a new democracy. it will be interesting to see how this could be portrayed in the future. or will they do a prequel to fallout? i dunno but whatever they choose to do good luck and i hope we have another amazing 14-15 years of great games and memories.

I think you're giving way to much credit to a post-apocalyptic world....That and the last democracy I know of didn't exactly end well. (On my end credits anyways)

Considering the thing your visiting the Mojave on is going be outdated in ~2 years, I'd say you may need to get ready for the time when its necessary to...let go, and begin again.

I don't buy many games, only the ones I know I will enjoy, so I will be in the Mojave, D.C. Wastes, and Cyrodiil , for as long as my PC's 1's and 0's continue to flow.....oh ya and Skyrim :celebration:

bummed yes but not worried...FO4 will be here sooner than you think.

But if I went with PS4 I wouldn't be able to get the DLC early.

The way I think about it is the next fallout will be godlike. It will be thankfully be developed by Bethesda, and probably use their new engine

New Vegas still has some life left in it for me. I'll do another playthrough once the weapon packs release next week but after BF3 and Skyrim release I'll probably put it to the side. Maybe I'll squeeze another FO3 campaign in for old time's sake.

I think you mean " unfortunatly developed by bethesda " and lack the level of narritive that we were lucky to experiance in N.V.

Yep it's sad that N.V. is done.
