Anyone else not like the legendary gun thing

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 11:24 pm

I'm on the fence with them. I like the surprise features although they seem to repeat a lot. They are completely unrealistic/magical. For example, on of my favorite is the 44 mag that "shoots two projectiles" for double damage. But that is clearly ridiculous since it uses the same number of bullets but somehow an extra bullet materializes the moment you shoot and doubles the damage without violating that whole law of momentum thing (unless somehow an extra powder charge instantly materializes also and somehow doesn't blow your gun up).

I quite like the way Legendary gear has been implemented alongside the 'upgrade, not craft from scratch' for armour and weapons.

In Skyrim, once I had my Enchantment skill and Armouring skills maxed out there was nothing I could find in the game that was better than items/ sets I could make.

This system might be a b??it more game orientated than simulation but it keeps me more interested in loot drops and questing.

I loved them at first, they seemed like great little gifts for killing a particularly hard baddie. But then, once you've got that great little gift, killing the particularly hard baddie isn't actually that hard any more...

I got Rightous Authority when I was around level 10. I was still using it regularly when I well over level 30! I still carry it with me as I haven't yet found a better energy weapon.

Around level 20ish I found a shotgun whose shells explode on impact, even now - closing in on level 50 - I can kill a deathclaw in 4-5 blasts

I also find legendary weapons to not fit at all with the game. It is obviously another element where they looked at other games like Borderlands etc and though they should use that in Fallout. The more I play the more I see these kind of things, it is a shame really since Bethesda always seemed to do "their own thing" before. Not aping after trends in other games. (Like ripping the whole dialogue system from games like Mass Effect, even though it does not make any sense for this game) They really have lost a lot of their unique feeling and integrity as a developer.

Bingo. And Reba 2 is exterminators hunting rifle, i already had that rifle

Who thought it'd be a good idea to make uniques generic?
Borderlands' uniques have a unique effect that is only in that gun.
Even the copying was half-assed :shakehead:

Yep, I agree. legendary weapons just don't do anything for me. I'd rather seem more unique gear that makes sense.

I would have liked the Legendary Effects as Mods because finding the right item you and the effect you want is so freaky RNG. Also some Effects are OP and others lame.

It's science fiction game, not fantasy. There's difference.

Seriously? .... Sorry, but SERIOUSLY?

Has the game ever autoequipped your character with a legendary weapon? I haven't run into that, it might do it, but I haven't run into it...

If it doesn't, then the choice is allready there... Just don't use them, don't make the active decision yourself to put it on.

Why are we relying on begging game developers to keep ourselves from actively doing what we don't wanna do? Bethesda has to take special measures and responsibility to protect masochists against themselves?

I'm just... wtf.

I got a 10mm Pistol with bleed damage and the bleed damage is from each bullet. It makes killing things so easy that it is practically cheating - I have had to lock it away in my safe and only use it when I really need it.

Even though i don't exactly hate them I would much prefer their to be a larger selection of unique weapons than this borderland-esque legendary weapons thing we have in Fo4.

Personally I like the legendary item system. Cause it means even if I'm doing some Radiant AI spawned exterminate mob of X type of enemies @ Y location I may still get something I actually like out of it. That said it isn't perfect, I'd prefer it if unique weapons still had their own models. Also liked the idea that a couple people mentioned of enemies instead dropping a legendary mod that you could plug into whatever weapon or armor you wanted. The "magic weapon" aspect doesn't bother me it's a video game and I'm not particularly looking for a sim.

Some have whined over the fact that in order to make companions easier to manage and not totally useless, they have a default (usually minor) gun that they don't need ammo for.

Really? but laser and plasma guns are at home? its an alternet universe, there are many things that would seem "out of place" in our world. I think they are at home in the fallout universe, and most blend into the lore well. And some are entirely normal. Like i have a shotgun with explosive rounds. We have those in the "real world" right now.

New Vegas had special guns and so did fallout 3, the only difference is now they are random unless they are sold or a reward for a quest and you can modify them unlike in New Vegas.

I think it's a great concept and makes killing legendary enemies abit like opening a chest. Some are just completely unbalanced or just plain stupid and "magic". Bleeding, explosive, extra damage on crit etc i think is great, but things like double shot are just far too powerful and extra/less damage from X is just dumb.

I would have preferred legendary weapons that didn't defy the established suspension of disbelief so thoroughly. I can accept mutants and plasma guns because it's part of the established fantasy world in a way that allows for a "reasonable" suspension of disbelief. Double-shot weapons, unending shotguns, etc. just doesn't jive with the "tech-fantasy" for me.

I'd rather have the special effects reworked to be a little more believable, possibly into specific mods that could've been stripped and reused, or special ammunition.

I would like them more if the perk / magic had a plausible reason. Like if the special weapon had a special part that justified the effect, you know like a can of Raid? plus an actuator plus a small amount of wire attached to the muzzle results in more damage to insects... just an example :)
That way at least we could remove the effect as a mod to add on another weapon or create our own special weapon.

To be honest though, IMO a "legendary" weapon is a unique artifact that has a back story regardless of it's physical attributes, not just an added effect that seems magical.

There's a difference between magic and SCIENCE!

The difference being that SCIENCE! has some half-assed pseudo scientific explanation. Laser, as everyone knows, is a real thing, and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REHt44BuASk.
Plasma exists too, as it is extremely hot matter, learning to control it is big part of fusion reactor experiments, but it is probably impossible to weaponize. At least on portable weapons.

So the experimental thing that shot 6 mini nukes in fallout 3 was not a magical Fatman somehow? How about the alien blaster or "Pew Pew" are you against all special guns or just ones that are random so you cannot just start a new guy knowing exactly where they all are?
