Anyone else playing MW while waiting for Skyrim?

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:25 am

So, last weekend, as my anticipation started to build for Skyrim, I decided to start a new character in Morrowind (of course, the character won't get too far in that time frame). Anyone else playing a bit of Morrowind in anticipation of Skyrim?

I finished up my 'pre-Skyrim' playthrough a few weeks ago, and dropped the game like a hot potato. Can't play Morrowind, too similar to Skyrim, will lessen the impact of Skyrim when it hits.

[X] No - I never left Morrowind. I've been playing (off & on) for the last 6 years

Yes, I've recently fired up a new MW character, but I'm not planning on buying Skyrim. Ya never know, I might change my mind, but as of now - :nope:

You should add an option for those (me) who never played Morrowind but bought it so that they would have something to do untill Skyrim.

I played MW when it was released, and just purchased the GOTY edition so I could play it again. I'd forgotten how much more unforgiving it was than Oblivion.

I left it for 2-3 years and recently started playing again, but I have no intention of ever playing Skyrim.

Been playing Morrowind on and off for years, and just started another game while waiting for Skyrim. I'm really enjoying it though so I'll probably still keep playing it at the same time...

I've been playing Morrowind on and off for about the past 5 years or so. I'm not going to pick up Skyrim immediately because of the Steam requirement (I bought FO3, but not F:NV because of Steam). I'm hoping that the eventual Skyrim GoTY edition is released without Steam, and by that time the modders should have at least glossed over whatever faults it may have.

Meanwhile, all I can hope for is that Tamriel Rebuilt releases another map section soon, because I'm finally starting to run out of places on Vvardenfell to explore.

You like "Games for Windows" better than Steamworks? Skyrim isn't going to be released without Steam, just as Fallout:NV isn't going to be released without Steam.

Steam's not the devil that people like to think it is, unless you are on dial-up or an equally slow internet. From experience, it's absolutely horrible on dial-up.

Oh absolutely!
My latest character is a monk type custom class who carries no weapons and no uses no magic other than enchanted rings, amulets, and scrolls. It's proving kind of tough, but doable.
I'm having a blast!

My best friend got excited for Skyrim, so for my birthday he gifted me Morrowind GOTY Edition on Steam. I'm playing a thief/enchanter build right now and am absolutely loving it!

I did the same. I passed on FO:NV & Civ V because of the mandatory Steam DRM requirement, and I'm passing on Skyrim for the same reason. Sure, I might change my mind someday, but as of now, my decision stands. I'd wub it if they'd release a Steam-free version, but I highly doubt that'll happen. Oh well

Try dial-up on another floor than the gaming computer. I've got to tear it apart and haul it down 2 flights of stairs to connect via dial-up, wait 12-20 hours for it to do its MANDATORY updates at dial-up's lethargic pace, then drag it all back upstairs again. The fancy "Don't Update" option only works if you're not actively playing the game; it still does updates every time you load the game; otherwise Steam automatically loads updates even for games you haven't played in a while. Worse, from what numerous people claim, Steamworks will attempt to "reverify" the installation after about 2 weeks offline, so you've got to keep doing that over and over. Steam is NOT going on my system, sorry.

The only way I can get some of the bigger mods is to d/l and burn them to CD before or after work, and carry them to my PC via "Sneakernet".

Actually, I don't have a MW char active at this moment; I'm finishing up a long, drawn-out WWII historical strategy game campaign before I get back to it.

Morrowind will always have more to do than any other Elder scrolls game. So I dont care if they upgrade the graphics and add dragons. Doesnt mean the game will be as immersive and eternally mysterious as morrowind..

I had to stop playing MW because my install went bad after a while and the disk had become practically unreadable. I found a GOTY in a shop and went back after about 2 years in Oblivion. On my 2nd char now since I restarted and I still have an extraordinairy number of things I could do such as spearfishing or creating a spell that both paralyzes and calms. I have no intention (or hardware for that matter) to play Skyrim anytime soon. It does sound pretty cool from what I've read but I don't think it's my cup of tea.

After finishing Morrowind I gave an opportunity to Oblivion but ... er ... And then I turned around. Who knows, if the future is generous and Skyrim leaves a gap, we may still have some surprises.

Sadly not. As much as I want, my computer that I am using right now is so crappy I can't play Morrowind. How I miss it. ;_;

I can sympathize. I refused to update any of my products from my house. I would take my 8 gig flash drive to my friends' house, boot up steam, update a game then copy all the files of that game into my flash drive then paste them into my home machine. Doing that took less time than straight downloading the updates, plus I got to spend some time with my friends.

Last time I played it was more than a year ago. I was very thorough and tried to do as many things I haven't done in the past as possible, like collecting all the daedric artifacts, exploring as much as possible etc. I haven't lost interest but it will take some time for nostalgia to kick in to motivate me to install Morrowind and play it again. ;)

I can't buy Skyrim, don't have enough money. -Besides- I don't have an X-Box either and my pc is very low-end so Skyrim won't work on it :(

At least Morrowind brings me a little comfort...

I never left Morrowind, and I don't think I ever will. The same goes for Oblivion.
I don't know why, but I'm not that excited about Skyrim anyway. That's probably because I still have TONS of things to do in the previous games.

You should also add an option for those that are modding it but not playing it currently, as is my situation. I'm working on my showcase for SHOTN at the moment and Pelagiad Expanded. TESV Skyrim is still sitting in the box at my house, funny enough.
