anyone else's quick and auto saves not sticking?

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 9:26 am

playing for a few hours now, and i gotta say, theres a lot of neat stuff to mess with.

but yesterday morning i found after starting the game (pc version) up that my quick save and auto save were to a location i went to maybe an hour of game time ago,
although any normal save are current, and the quick save and quick load options work while playing, seems a miss.

anyone else have this problem?

Had it happen several times already, including autosaves. Lots of crash to desktop too. Put it back in the oven, it's not quite done.

Yeah, same here. Steam version, the autosaves simply aren't working, still points back to the first autosave after the character creation bit.

Also getting random hangs after about an hour of play, which exacerbates the problem of no-autosaves. This needs to be fixed, and soon.

Remember rule number One. Save, save, and save some more. Rule number 2. Do not rely on one or two saves, have about 3 minimum.

I believe quick and auto saves even from Oblivion days, people had problems with. When playing the games for hours on end, do not rely on auto and qucik saves.

I played for 10 hours yesterday, manually saved 3 times I fired it up today and only the 1st save (level 3!!!) is there. The autosave is previous to the quicksave and manual save.

THIS MUST BE FIXED!!

There are reasons I've always done manual saves like every 10 minutes in gamesas games (Morrowind, Obliv, FO3, etc).....

My quick & auto seem to be fine. Only odd thing I've run into is having things change after a quick reload or a crash & reload from quick.... like the stock in the Goodsprings general store. Was the same every time I came in to sell some junk, but after a crash - while trying to sell stuff, heh - it had different stock. Which was a shame, since it lost the one thing I wanted to buy, a rifle scope mod. Ah, well.

DITTOS.

I' learned to do that with Oblivion.

DO NOT RELY ON AUTOSAVE with these games. Yeah, I know it svcks but it is true.

No issues yet here with saves (knock on wood) but I use manual saves as quoted above though I don't alway save so often..it varies though. About 18 plus hours of real time game play so far with FNV.

I rotate about 5 saves that I overwrite as I proceed and make 'key ' saves that I keep around to fall back on in case of corruption of the rotated saves that
can not be recovered from. (Fallout 3 lesson that modders learn).

I turn off auto save entirely. I tihnk it causes more issues than not.
With FNV I dont' have near as many crashes as Fallout 3. It has been stable for me (so far).
With Fallout 3 I was paranoid about saving all the time due to its crashiness.
FNV , for me, has not caused that fear to erupt....yet.

So , just say no to autosave people and yes, Beth deserves a B i t ch slap for failing to properly test.

When this happens, however, the manual saves also don't appear on the list.

I cannot save in ANY capacity. Any single save of any variety that I make, seems to revert back to a save that I made about 3 hours into play.

You can add me to the list. I played 6 hours yesterday. Fired up the game today, 3hrs wasted none of my auto, quick saves actually saved. I never had this problem with Fallout 3. What else is amazing , console people are having the same troubles. Wasn't this game tested before release? Im shelving it till a patch comes out. This is unbelievable. Now i can understand a few crashs here and there. But in a game like this STABLE saves are essential .Expected more from Bethesda.

Question: Has anyone tried disabling the Steam Cloud crap and seen if that fixes the problem? I just noticed the bug myself - I'm hoping it's just due to Steam saving my saves on their servers for no reason at all rather than on my actual computer. Need to test it out, though, so here's hoping.

EDIT: Well, just found out that's not going to work - Steam disabled the Cloud stuff themselves and it's still having these problems anyways.

Still, this is one of the crappiest bugs I've ever heard of. Shame on who ever's at fault and at the QA testers for not figuring it out.

Yep. Did a number of F5 quicksaves, come back to the game later and it reverts to my original quick save in the saloon.

Yeah everyone just needs to remember to do manual saves till they fix it. Manual saves seem to be just fine, where as the quick/auto saves revert me back to a spot in Goodsprings like 2 hours in. I even went an extra step, to save the file to my desktop after I'm done playing. Sure it doesn't guarantee something from a crash and you hadn't saved in awhile, but unless people are having lots of crash problems, I've only had one in about 20 hours of play.
