Anyone else restrict themselves from using Smithing and Ench

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:17 pm

After my first character had all the best weapons and armor in a few hours play i decided not to use Smithing or Enchanting ever again to purposely restrict myself, as Skyrim doesn't have enough restrictions. May i just say i am enjoying the game a whole lot more now; having to scavenge through dungeons praying there will be a nice weapon or two inside, making do with what i have and actually learning how to use them correctly etc etc, it makes every fight more tense and atmospheric... It's just a lot more fun immersion wise and gameplay leaving the Smithing and Enchanting to the NPC's in my opinion, anybody else doing this? :tes:

I limit myself to no more than 2.5x my level in smithing, and do nothing other than regular use to create skill in any other support skill. It slows my progress down, but that's fine by me... tons of stuff to do.

I restrict myself from abusing the smithing and enchanting.

I only smith with what I find, and disenchant/enchant as needed; don't purchase items to power-level those skills faster than casual progression through game.

I'm taking them, but I'm not using any skill fortifications to cheese them. I'll improve my gear with just 80(or 81-85 depending on how much I level after crafting) smithing once I can craft ebony. Won't boost it with any potions or +smithing gear.

Same goes for enchants, all enchanting will be done with the skill at 100 and no higher.

I'm going to try making a Nord Barbarian (http://go.ign.com/uDdOQO) on Master without using Smithing or Enchanting or Alchemy. I don't know how sucessful he will be with Light Armor and 2H weapons, but I guess we'll find out.

Finally someone else who realizes how much it ruins the sense of progression by pumping smithing/ enchanting right from the start.

I'm a bit regretful that I invested so much into enchanting, some of the enchantments just aren't worth the time. As far as armor yes they are invaluable but for weapons aside from puting soul trap on my bows I dont bother anymore they work yes, but I just don't really like looking at them. I'd much rather a sword that was ingulfed in flames than covered in glowing runes.

I'm restricting myself from using perks so the game can't get too easy.

I use smithing as much as I care too, but I can't bring myself to do Enchanting at all... seems too complicated.

I restrict myself on smithing. I have so much stuff saved up in my house now from restricting myself. I don't restrict enchanting tho cuz i love comboing diff enchantments with shouts and other things. :)

My character is a hunter, not a blacksmith. She wouldn't know how to forge a sword if her life depended on it. She can craft some basic leather objects, though - as a way of using animal pelts she collected. As for enchanting, it's so much more fun to loot items from fallen enemies!
I guess roleplaying kinda forces those restrictions on me. An assassin deals with poisons, not enchantments ;)

I restricted myself on smithing since it was leveling way too quickly, not even buying ingots either. Going to wait awhile before I craft Daedric/Dragon armor. Haven't really touched enchanting or alchemy as I don't want to overpower myself.

I don't use either one much. Sometimes I enchant stuff for my companion (I use bound weapons and a certain star, have to use 'em for something), but other than that I've been using default loot. I run around practically naked; the joy of mage robes :)

Have to plan a lot in advance during combat, but that just makes it more fun.

I feel similar, I'm only aiming to get to Archane enchanting then I'm not going to go out of my way to craft anything else.
There is so many unique armors out there, I doubt crafting the high end armors will prove that useful by the time I get there under normal usage of the skill.

I didn't purposefully avoid those two skills but after seeing how some people became overpowered, I'm glad the numbers are low on them. I do like exploring and finding things on my own and I just thought it would come in time. There's lots of time. I use them a little but not much.

As I actually role play my character restricting myself is something I do frequently.

Level 30 in Smithing is as far as I took it intentionally so that I may craft and hone Eleven Armour. It's very likely that once I actually save up enough to forge and improve the set I won't ever touch smithing again. I'm currently in Light Elven Armour so until I can actually afford the Moonstone smithing remains at 30 for me.

Same thing for Enchanting. My character is a Nightblade who uses Conjuration so soul trapping is pretty common for me. However I won't ever put a perk in enchanting despite it being one of my highest skills. I only enchant/disenchant for the sole purpose of making all the rings and amulets I find a bit more pricey, which means 1-3% boosts on things. Not even worth wearing. Even if Enchanting hits 100 (which it probably will eventually) I have no intention to God Mode my character.

I have 70 hours in, and i have not had to re roll once. My Smithing and Enchanting have both been restricted by my mind without thinking about it until now. :hehe:
