Anyone else saving up for new PCs/PC parts?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:49 am

So, is anyone else going to save up for a new PC, or new parts just to play Skyrim on the highest graphics settings?
I'm gonna quit procrastinating about finding a new job, and get one just so I can play this on PC, hopefully, on the highest graphics setting. :celebration:

Consoles are fine, too...

Well, the 7000 series of ATI cards will likely be out November. I'll have to check their benchmarking in order to determine what I'll do. For now though, the dual 1GB 4870's will do.

I was hoping to wait to buy a new system, but this thwarted those plans. Not that I'm complaining.

I am selling my computer next weekend, and I already saved some money to buy a new one. The only thing worrying me is whether or not I am going find a great graphics card for a nice bargain.

We'll see. I'd rather wait until after it is released to think about upgrading. I'm hoping that since it will be xbox and ps3 that the pc port won't require crazy specs. That doesn't hold with Beth's track record although this is the first time they've double genned a game

Will upgrade to W7 and may get a new card. Those 6xxx series for ATI are looking pretty slick.

The mobo I am buying next week for my I7 950 has 6 PCI-E 16x slots supporting up to 6 GPUs. (Though only quad-crossfire or Tri-SLI.) If I have to jam 4/3 of the fastest GPUs in it to play I will, I swear! (But please don't make me.)

I'm so excited, though this will feel like the longest year ever!

I'm going to be building a new computer in the summer if 2011, so I hope it's good enough to run the game on max settings.

I like consoles for TES because I spend sooo much time sitting around playing it, as I'm falling asleep even, so I like to be on my bed when I'm playing it.

So, new computer and chair, or...well..., nothing new? Part of me kinda wants the game to be too amazing for 360, but we'll see.

I might be getting a EVGA GTX 260 for a deal, but I'll need a lot more to get my computer up to date, and I don't exactly have the money for too much more.

I just built myself a new one a couple of months ago - before that I was gaming (or trying to) on an old Dell Precision desktop that was pretty much held together for the last 2 years with rubber bands and prayer, and it was overheating several times a day - eventually it died and that constitutes an emergency - hence a new build. I think this one will be good for any games over the next couple of years at least before I have to consider an upgrade, but I'm likely doing another new build in the spring as my OH has been making do with cobbled together spare parts and cast-offs (his current PC is a Frankenstein build - half my old PC and half of one my dad gave me, I've spent an inordinate amount of time poking around with its innards getting it working) and he wants me to build another new one.

Very recently build a new comp with an ATI Radeon 5870 card. Hope it'll still be good for them. If not, I'll save up and crossfire with something else.

You're just showing off, of course that GPU will still be good.

Maybe. Depends on if I'll need 'em. If it looks like I will, I will order some new parts through the school, I get a discount since I'm a student. :D

I am buying a new PC after the Intel Sandy Bridge chipset comes out, because this should lower the price of the older models. I am hoping I can get an i5 for cheeper than they are now, and spend a bit more money on a better graphics card than I would buy if I got the computer now. Hopefuly an i5, ATi Radeon 5770 and four gigs of RAM will run it fine. I plan on buy the limited edition for Xbox or PS3, and get GOTY for the PC, after some good mods are made.

Not anymore. Now I'm just trying to pay off my credit cards that I used to buy the components I needed.

At best I may eventually add another HD (likely SSD)

I'll probably add another gtx 470 between now and then, probably move into the 500 series around the time this game hits.

Might get a second SSD as well, I got a 60GB for my OS, but I'm thinking about picking up one of the 256GB models for game installs. Quite the noticeable load time difference. I've got FO:NV on there, load times are extremely brief.

I think the GTX 570 will be a nice card for Skyrim. By November '11 these cards should reach the $200 price point. And from the reviews, it seems like they are adequately powerful and run quiet, even at full load.

Well with Christmas coming up, instead of some useless laptop, I will just ask for the amount of the laptop in cash, then collaborate with some friends to plan out an amazing PC. I think all of us are gonna do this just for TES V

I'm done with the PC upgrade treadmill. SKYRIM will have to run on my current rig or stay on the shelf unless the cost of consoles drops another $100. There just isn't a compelling reason for me to pour money into this increasingly inane hobby anymore: I look at store shelves and see nothing I haven't already played in one form or another - and better in every way except purdy graphics. I had high expectations for OBLIVION and I did get my money's worth don't get me wrong, but I also hoped some of the promises of DAGGERFALL would be realised in this tech cycle. I don't even finish most games anymore and those I do mostly feel "meh" - It's not like I'm burned out (I barely play 10 hours a week) more like bummed out.

No biggie in any case.
