Anyone else skip armor perks because of head slot?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:45 pm

I never wear helmets ever in the game, most just look funky and I think I'd rather just see my characters face.

The downside to this is that the upper rank perks for armor have helmet requirements, which svcks,if you dont wear a helmet, the entire perk doesnt take effect. The good part about this though is thankfully,I dont really need the high level armor perks and can save my perk points and use it on other things.

There are a few helmets I like though, like ebony, orcish, and daedric.

But anyone else not like wearing head armor?

Same thing for me so far all light armor helmets look like crap on my characters.

*raises hand* I skipped the perk because of this also.

I'm waiting until I can make circlets have an armor value, or I can make the perk count for every armor piece except for the head.

I wear the helmet then remove it in inventory before taking screenshots.

Heck in first person I can't see it anyway.

Yes, I tried wearing helmets only in combat, but usually I forget and not wear them all the time :]

I guess I'm the crazy one, but I play in first person and pretty much never see my own character except when I'm crafting so function over fashion for me.

*Edit*

I'd also like to know what race/class type your playing if you don't wear a helm. My Nord two-hand weapon guy just wouldn't give a crap what a helm looks like I don't believe. An uppity caster might though (from a role play stand point).

Yeah, not a fan of most head armor.

Orcish is passable though. Love the black plume. In Oblivion, the only helmet I'd wear was Imperial.

Yeh there are like 2-3 helmets in the game that don't look terrible, to my taste at least.

I've decided to roll with either no helmet or a hooded black robe at this point.

The fact that there is no seperate hat item that is the same as the cowl from the hooded black robe is a crime.

I'd agree helm shouldn't have been included as a necessary piece for those perks.
They could also have a "show helm" toggle like a number of other games do for this reason.

I personally don't have an issue with it, but I can easily see why others might.

There are a few epic helmets. Playing a Khajiit, I didn't like using many, Ebony especially. Ebony helmet looks cool, but I would have preferred an open version for Khajiit. Orcish helm looked boss, so did the iron and steel horned helms. Dwarven was just....horrible. Glad I skipped that armor set. Daedric helmet reminds me of Legend of Dragoon, looks epic. But besides that. I took the perks. Because I wanted the later perks. Heavy armor doesn't give you much choice. Besides, what's better, being killed easier, or looking a little off because you don't like your helm? You decide. Your game.

Yeah I guess it wouldnt apply to you. I like to switch from 1st to 3rd very often and I like seeing my character battle in a 3rd person perspective sometimes.

Edit: oh,my character is a Dunmer,Hes sort a evil Death Knight that uses Destruction,Heavy Armor,Necromancy, and both Two Handed and One Handed,he also worships daedra and takes after the dremora, since the majority of dremora never wore helmets either.

What I like to do is put my helmet on my #8 hotkey, so I can pop 8 when I enter court, or enter a town. It works with RP, just be a dude who takes his helmet off when he's not in a scrap.

As for a show helm feature, thank God I play on PC (Waits for mod)

A lot of the time I use a circlet instead of the helm in town. I put on my helm for hard fights. E.g. "I put my game face on".

Yes, I skip the entire right tree of heavy armor due too the requirement of helmets.

I wear head armor and full light armor. Its easier when you have a faction armor. Like the thieves guild or Dark Brotherhood. Then it matches and doesn't ruin my character at all.
And I'm a dark elf.

I skipped them because I mix-matched heavy and light. I just got the base park of both trees.

I've been skipping them as well. My character has a Circlet of Archery that he needs more than a helmet at the moment. I really wish circlets counted as light armor instead of jewelry, though.

If it wasn't for the Stormcloak Officer Helmet I would be tempted to ignore the perks too. Something about wearing a bear's head that is perfect for a berserker character. Admittedly I tend to run around without the helmet on though and put it on when going into combat via hotkey.

Easy.

I easily sacrifice survivability for good looks, because chances are you'll die anyway.
Better die pretty than dying looking like a full-blown kitchen, with an oven for armor and a pot on your head, wielding a platter and fighting with a knife.

I blacked out my characters eyes and used to bloody looking eye warrior makeup.
With the red goatee i sport, an iron helmet makes my character look bad ass.

I am also not worried about looking diplomatic on towns.

I like the horned helmets that show the face. My end-game goal is dragonplate with a horned helmet, so I'll be stopping at tower of strength.

It's hard for me to skip the armor perks that involve the helmet. The bonuses are too good. My roleplaying file I will avoid them but in my other files I'm almost obligated too pick them because of the bonuses.

Thieves guild gives out some cool hoods that are considered light armor.

The perk tree is saved.
