Anyone else sticking to a strict mage discipline?

Post » Thu Sep 08, 2011 5:25 am

I was curious if anyone else was going to stick to a strict mage discipline. I'm leaning towards it right now....being pure mage with just slight hints of flavor from shortswords and maces when silenced, and maybe lockpicking.

Anyone else focusing almost exclusively in magicka?

For my first character i plan to make a pure evil altmer mage, bent on killing all other mages, and i'll completely focus in, and only wield magic.

Not for my first character, but my second is going to be a Breton who focuses purely on magicka and who will wear nothing but robes for armor.

Me, me! :twirl: I will also collect some herbs.
Not sure how will it work since alchemy is now associated with rogues.

I've never done a pure mage, and the same goes for skyrim.
Although I do enjoy a good breton battlemage playthrough.

First run through is gonna be a nord ranger.

Marksman, longsword, and alchemy being my main three.

but spells look incredible.

Probably when I make a Breton. I always wanted to continue the sucessfull adventures of my famous Breton, his work is known through whole Tamriel. Unfortunately I'm afraid Breton's life doesn't span as long as I've ideally wanted (someone prove me wrong please!) so I may not see him ever again. The good news is that he had 1 child when he most likely past away, and his family could progress further. My wish is that my new Breton will follow his great great grandpas's tracks and make him proud. :foodndrink:

The goal being to eliminate all magic in skyrim other than your own, and become the only mage in all of skyrim?

I'm going to take advantage of all three disciplines depending on the situation on my first play-through, but I will undoubtedly make characters who only stick to one discipline later on down the line.

I think you need to reanolyze the words stick, strict and discipline.

A true "strict" Mage build uses magic and magic only. You're making a shadow blade

I only use magic, I went as a mage with a spear in Morrowind, but Skyrim and Oblivion didn't support my dream so I went full mage.

Nah no iron weapons for pure Mage. Use a staff when silenced

A mage with a spear!? Reminds me of Wotan

This will be my first time focusing as well...never have in TES before. I also believe alchemy is an important skill for a mage...even if its considered a stealth/rouge trait. A smart mage knows the art of alchemy, imo.

My initial focus will be to level and perk Destruction, but I plan on mastering all five Schools.

For a moment, I thought this meant favorite school of magic. I was going to say Conjuration; i tend to idealize summoners. I think the ice golem looks great; i wonder what the other atronachs will look like.

That said, I guess i'd focus on summoning! Though that never really turns out well. Conjuration is one of those magicka-svcking spells, even if alchemy helps relieve some of the burden. Always gotta round it out.

I guess my char would be skilled in conjuration, destruction, and alchemy. "Some" of the others too.
Perks go into summoning and, if it really helps cut down on potions, alchemy

I'm doing a pure mage in Skyrim as well. It will be my first time playing as one. The magic system in Oblivion just seemed sooo spreadsheety and boring. Also, there didn't seem to be enough variety in the spells to satisfy me.

But this time things look different, and I might just be able to create a pure mage and have fun at the same time. :tes:

Second run through... Dunmer Mage. Will be 70% mage, 30% thief.

Gotta have those lockpicking/speech skills, no matter what :)

I want to have a black robe with a hood that covers my eyes. Use the strongest destruction magic! I can't wait!

I just hope there is something that covers my whole face. More mysterious that way.

I don't think there were such hoods in Morrowind or Oblivion.
Can't remember. I'd love it too :celebrate:

Well what I mean is the shadow covering my mouth and such. It just didn't seem as cool in oblivion when you could see the face.

I will be playing a pure mage for the first time too. Not on my first playthrough but Skyrim's magic is just so cool. Also, brohoof.
