So anyone else think Dragons should have more Shouts?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:51 am

I'm level 36 right now, and I haven't fought Alduin or an Ancient Dragon yet, but I assume even they only have one or two Shouts (flame/frost breath, I've seen Alduin use another Shout, won't spoil it). It doesn't make much sense when you think about it. Shouts are in the Dragon language and come natural to them, and yet none of them know/use even half the Shouts you do?

I'm just thinking it would make them more of a threat if they could become ethereal or FUS-RO-DAAA! you of a mountain.

Opinions?

I'm not sure what they need but I do agree that Dragons should be more of a challenge. It would be cool to see them using more shouts though

It'd be so amazing if a Dragon was able to slow time with a shout just like we are.

That's the one I'd like them to have the most, especially if they do it and it causes you to inevitably die, then you can finally have a good opportunity to scream "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!".

I agree. The language is the dragon language and so I think that all of the dragons should know pretty much all of the shouts. They could specialize the dragons (give them one, two, or three of the words) to make them different and the like, but if, say, you are immune to Frost as my Nord is now with his natural and added resistance (or darn near close) the dragon should shift to fire or something.

Exactly. It's their language, so really they should be able to use all the Shouts you know and even some you can't use imo. It's just talking to them. It even says on the loading screen "a battle between two Dragon's is actually a deadly discussion"

You think it would be a good thing for enemies to have an attack that makes you inevitably die? Hmm. Safe to say I disagree on that point.

I definitely support the idea of several shouts per dragon though. Just a couple of days ago I was hit with my first Fireball shout (as opposed to the sustained gout of flame), and my main character is level 46.

Yea , dragons in this game have been a bit disappointing. I was hoping there would be more variety (they'd have more abilities or at least be different types - maybe a lightning dragon for instance), but no, they are all either frost, fire, or Alduin. Boring!!!

does seem a bit weird since it's their language
but from a gameplay perspective it sort of makes sense for a lot of shouts
wouldn't be fun if they could slow time or freeze you solid for an extended period of time
but there's also a lot of shouts like fus ro da that would make perfect sense for them to have
even the draugr deathlords can do em, why can't the dragons that invented them

The more I think about it the more I think "why the hell didn't they do this?". This is exactly what Dragon's needed to make them the feared creatures they should be. Collecting Dragon souls should be hard work man!

I enjoy fighting Dragons don't get me wrong, but I don't fear them.

Would be great if they used ones like disarm, animal allegiance and such too. Make those pesky animals nearby all attack you.

I had Alduin FUS RO DAH me at the intro/tutorial.

But after that, never again.

Yeah those sort of Shouts they were right to leave out. And I can see how it would be hard to implement some of the other Shouts (Dragons are glitchy enough right now, could you imagine one trying to use whirlwind sprint?).

Maybe each Dragon you encounter has around 5-6 different Shouts each would have been the best way to go. Think Bethesda could/should patch it in at some point anyone?

Edit:
@Guard, really? I remember him summoning up some weather and breathing fire but no RO-didly

I agree. A dragon nailing you with Marked for Death or Becoming Ethereal just as you are about to nuke him would be awesome.
