Anyone else think there should be character slots?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:55 am

I have about 4 characters right now,but all the save files show up right next to each other, and we cant name the saves or organize them,so I always have to be careful when saving so I don't overwrite another character.

Anyone else think they should of added character slots for save files? Or atleast create a white bracket between saves to separate characters?

Character slots would be very useful, hated to search trough my +1000 saves in Oblivion to take up an new character.
As a bonus let you assign mods to character slots, an mage might use other mods than an hunter.

Oh god yes!

I once lost a 230 hour oblivion character because the game suddenly thought it should list a save I hadn't used in 2 months at the top.

I love the character slots in Mass Effect.

Yeah, they had it in the Dragon Age series too.

The one most useful feature.

That, and/or just let you rename your saves!? Some of the limitations I think are just really silly.

EDIT:: Yes, yes, I know with the console on PC you can save with custom save names, but not on pc.

I know on PC i just manually copy all my saves to another folder when i want to start/play a different character. Takes a second, but negates the possibility of overwriting something by accident.

That is actually one thing I had in my head that I wanted to express on the forums. It wouldn't be too hard to implement and I'd feel more encouraged to play more characters!

You can rename your saves in your documents folder, so you just name them to your characters and voila. The name doesn't get overridden when you save again IIRC.

I was rather surprised that this feature wasn't included. They talk about having so many ways to customize your character, players having multiple characters is a no-brainer. Using subfolders named for each character made would do just fine. It could also be set up to load and preview the character/gear from their most recent save files.

Thanks to bring this to debate, i was thinking in doing a topic myself about this issue:)

I think it is a must for the good of the game and us as players.

I want to create more chars to experience the game in diferent vertents, and i avoid it because i KNOW that is just a question of time untill i overwrite a wrong save! It have happened before, so i just use one char all the time.
I really wish they can give us char slots or create another kind of saves that allow us to not ovewrite by mistake other chars< :banghead:

For the second option, yes I've overwritten a save I didn't want to overwrite, but I never have an entire character contained on just one save.

I was thinking of doing the same, till I realized it would split all my achievements I get to different game profiles :/

That depends. Would there be a limit to how many you can have? Either way, it would be a good idea for consoles. But PC users will probably have a way to do something just like this once the modding scene kicks into full gear. In previous games, you could use Wrye Bash (or some equivalent) to create alternate profiles for saves, complete with individual mod lists.

I already have character slots.

It's called a separate save file.

I don't care about the first option. I will continue to organize my saves my way, and have never overwritten another character's save with another one, even while playing on the consoles.

It would be cool to get a sense for your various characters more to have a list of animation avatars to select from.
