Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but i found this old hp p6210y computer, and after talking to some people on the minecraft forums, they suggested i get the radeon hd7770, its a XFX brand, but i dont know if that matters, anyway, ive noticed whenever i try to boot it up, the monitor says monitor is going to sleep, and i forgot to switch the cords. No biggie. so i switch, and lo and behold, it still does the same thing. i dont know if its my bad luck or something, but can anyone provide some help? i had my friend who works at the local bestbuy install it, but at this point i dont really know what to do.

Anyone got any suggestions/things to try?

One thing i forgot to mention, i did have a new PSU installed, for obvious reasons, and i think i heard somewhere that if the PSU is disconnected to a certain part, then that part wont work, so thats something else i thought of.

Best bet here would be to ask your friend if you havent, since your friend installed it. Wouldnt be that good to take it apart yourself unless you're an expert, since you didnt assemble the computer. Maybe your friend made a little blunder somewhere?

have you noticed this with the on-board GPU, or with an external one ????

If the monitor has an input or source button, press it. On some monitors, the video input or source selection can be found in the onscreen menu system.

If so, press the Menu button on the monitor and use the front panel buttons to select Switch Video Input or something like that.

Connect the monitor to another computer and turn the computer on. See what happens:

My first guess would be that your friend forgot to hook up the graphics card to the power supply. It's also possible that if your computer is old enough the power supply doesn't have the right connections for your graphics card. Another possibility is that your power supply just isn't powerful enough for the new graphics card in which case it's lowering the power output to keep from catching on fire which is preventing your video card from functioning.

The HD 7770 requires a +12v PCIe connection from the Power supply. For this card it is 3x2 (6 pin). Example: http://www.allpinouts.org/index.php/PCI_Express_%28PCIe%29_6pin_power

Without this connection the GPU won't get enough power and will not function. period. While you can get an adapter to convert two 4-pin molex connections to 6-pin PCIe +12V, it is generally not recommended, because the PSU probably doesn't have enough current on +12V, or enough overall wattage.

A 450W PSU is required and 500W is recommended. You also probably need about 20-25A or more on +12V in order for your system to be stable. A good 450W PSU should have more than enough.

Did you check/change the BIOS setting to use the correct (new) GPU?
