no, at 36, I don't feel too old to be on this particular forum, but it is really the only forum I'm a regular member of. I just like the variety of topics and people here. The age differences add to that.

I've practically grown up on these forums, and at 20 years old now I don't think I'll ever stop coming. There are lots of "old" people here. Infact I think that's why I like the CD so much. All the young folk stick around the game boards, while everybody else hangs around here.

Never. I have posted on forums almost daily since 1999. When we are all old farts and waiting out the rest of our lives in retirement homes, at least we can still sit and troll the young'ins on internet forums.

Epic avatar. I could almost envision a fat sonic struggling to type that message with each keystroke gasping for breath. It actually made me read the thing slower subconsciously. Awesome. Hahahah.

I can definitely sympathize. I'm only 18, and I feel the same way already (and have for a while). Almost everyone on every other internet forum is a moron. I hate memes, internet expressions and mannerisms, etc. I'm just hoping that it will eventually have a higher age for its average user eventually since the internet is a fairly new invention.

I've never felt too old (although I am only 23). But I do have to stop myself from correcting spelling - I'm not sure if that's just me getting old or if I'm just a word nerd. Probably both. I see it as a massive credit to the Beth games that you get people of all ages joining the forums. The only time I feel embarrassed about my gaming habits is when my Mum comes over and eyes my games with that "aren't you going to grow up soon?" look. I'd never tell her I joined a games forum :P

All that said, the xXXx's in my name are a cruel and constant reminder of how much more mature I've gotten in comparison to the apparently stupid kid who thought it was wise to put those in his username. :brokencomputer:

Heh, I know that feeling...

Pretty much the opposite, actually. :(

It's ok, kiddo! :hugs:

Someone should edit it so the one being hugged opens his eyes and looks uncomfortable

Can't be too difficult. The face he's making at the start looks rather apt for the end too.

Haha, I remember when I joined I was in awe at all the members that had joined back in '04, '03, and the even rarer ones before that.

I still sometimes feel new, but then I remember I was 13 when I joined up and have to admit I've come a long way since then.

All in all, 18 is definitely not too old to be around the interwebs.

I feel new here all the time. I joined when I was 15 and I too have come pretty far as well. I find that a lot of people here tend to be around my age and even the ones that aren't tend to be more mature than other forums. I only sometimes venture to other forums, none of them videogame related, and there is a lot more trolling going around and its more often than not older people doing it. So it's not typically an age group that is affecting the forum experience but rather people don't really care what their online persona looks like because they can change it in 5 minutes anyways.

I'm 44 and my parents know I play video games and never look at me weird. In fact, when I'd play Morrowind and my dad would come in and see me playing he'd say "Taunt him! Taunt him!" I'd be like, "Dad, he's an ally, or non-threatening character." He'd say, "So! Taunt him anyway!" Would crack me up. :P

Edit: No, I don't live with my parents, we have 2 houses on this property and I'm in the front house. :P

To quote Wooderson, "I get older, they stay the same age."

I've been bouncing around on internet forums since I was 15. I feel like the old man, now. The majority of forumers act like whiny immature high school kids who's arrogance makes it impossible to carry on a discussion without me having to edit and dumb down my posts. The internet is a collection of memes and unoriginal one-liners that seem only to be struggles for attention. This is one of the, nah it is THE only mature forum I've been on and I'm wondering how many of you feel similar to how I do. Maybe its a changing of times, maybe I'm just outgrowing it, but there's no substance, no merit. We keep cycling through the same age group and it all just feels like a waste.

Maybe you don't agree with me on that, but does anyone else feel kind of old compared to the general internet community?

EDIT: apparently I'm also too old to use the proper form of "too".

The whole "This forum is mature/well behaved" comes up often, and is something I generally disagree with. It definitely isn't the only well-behaved forum I am aware of, and I've always felt that the "maturity" on here are primarily due to how absolute the rules are and how much they are enforced. All hot topics are forbidden. Maturity can only be proven when you have the chance to show maturity, which, given the restricted topics, isn't the case here IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I do like it here, hence I come back, but I also like it on other forums that I frequent where those topics aren't forbidden and don't devolve to flame-wars. IMO the rules prove that this forum has a lack of maturity (and therefore needs to be kept in check) rather than a level of maturity.

And no, I don't feel old on the Internet at all. I generally make an assumption that everyone is around the same age as me, until stated otherwise.

How would you know if we could have civil discussions in subjects which are prohibited if they are indeed prohibited?

Only when I see people posting about not knowing how internet shopping works....HOw do I preorder, What do I bring when I preorder, When does it ship, why isn't amazon delivering themselves, why is UPS not updating at 2pm, Does release date delivery mean they will deliver at midnight...etcresfdsxc

Wasn't there a thread about that not so long ago?

How would you know if we could have civil discussions in subjects which are prohibited if they are indeed prohibited?

Heck we get some threads locked on discussions on lore, some people just go to far , personally I don't discussions on prohibited topics. I would too steamed up in those topics.

Sure sometimes I do make threads about stuff I need step by step instructions , well I have improved greatly from my first thread. I was speaking 1337 speak and had HORRID grammar. Within about a couple months I was a great speller because some people complained they couldn't understand me. All thanks to opera spell check constant bugging

DEFRON, I'd say this forum in particular, though, has a higher than average number of people who are mature.

But there are so many bad seeds on a forum of this size that we still need rules.

But then again, that's why we have spinoff forums, like BGSFans.

Maybe I don't pick loser forums, but my experience is not indicative of that being true. My two other main forums have over 100,000 members as well

The internet is a collection of memes and unoriginal one-liners that seem only to be struggles for attention. That's painting with a broad brush. There are definiitly sites with fairly high brow conversations. Maybe look harder?

Maybe you don't agree with me on that, but does anyone else feel kind of old compared to the general internet community? On here, a bit. At 41, I'm on the older section of the curve; however there are a good number of like-aged and a bit older folks here. (Haven't seen Dreadful McDude for a while though, hope he's OK.) Besides, it can be fun being a crumudgin(sp?) :poke: But really, if I felt too old, wouldn't I have left by now?

EDIT: apparently I'm also too old to use the proper form of "too". erm, maybe too you young to use too, 2 old 2 use 2? ;)

I'm 19. I guess I'm a "kid" to some of you old farts older folks. I feel like I should be doing something else, but at the moment that isn't really the case. Any time I am doing "nothing" recently I savor, then bask in it.

If you want to see some immaturity, go on over to the Warcraft forums. I assure you that you will walk out a angry person.
