Anyone feel SPECIAL system make more sense than skills?

one of the thing that i dislike in previous fallout is that you can be master in persuation/barter with only 1 in Charisma. no need for strength just high int plus pack rat to carry bunch of stuff. you can break into any terminal system being 1 int dumb dumb. there is lot of SPECIAL that you have no reason to raise above like 5 or 6 at all because there is no perks use it.

i see lot of people complain of the lack of skills system but seem no one actually think that the new SPECIAL system is actually better in term of design and i think dropping it is a much better design for gameplay

I don't know if I'd say that it's better, but I would say that it's more ergonomic and it puts more of a challenge to where you're actually encoraged to get massive level ups, and with the tiered enemy scales, you don't have to worry about getting massively overpowered.

I like it better then the skills system. Skills might have worked for the older isometric games but in the more action orientated 3d games skill were just always kind of broken. In F03/NV I pretty much always ended up with a character that could be good at everything, if you wanted to avoid that you needed to find a "dumpstat".

SPECIAL seems a much more natural progression. But that said my main char is only lvl 18 and my alts are still just in either Sanctuary or Concord, so I might be completely wrong :)

*raises his hand*

Yup, i dig the new system a lot!

Always was somehow wierd in FO3 and NV (diddn't played the older ones a lot) to be like a master of everything with 10 endurance and perception, but beeing able to carry 400 lbs, charming the ladys and the boy alike and punching the [censored] out of that mutant, while hacking a complex computer terminal with just 2 intelligence^^

New systems feels great, just my 2 cents!

The skill system did some things right that I miss, but I can't help but to be quite fond of this new character system myself. A lot of what skills added were some flaws in how SPECIAL was designed, to the point of which some attributes were absolutely useless. However, with this new system, does every attribute now have a purpose and can cater to any play style with perks being directly aligned to your SPECIAL stats now.

I enjoy what they did a lot more than special + skills. Liking perk per level and that they are tied with corresponding attribute.

The new system is so much better than any previous Fallout game it isn't funny. Such a good decision and so much to choose from, love it.

I always felt the special + skills had an identity crisis. Low charisma? Who cares with high speech craft (which is really just another way of saying charisma). With the exception of strength / endurance you could skill up to compensate for bad special.

This has, in my opinion, made character progression far more meaningful. Placing that perk / extra special attribute feels far more consequential to me now than in previous games.
