Well, the animation was of Todd casting that masterlevel Firestorm-spell-thing. At least part of that animation.

Ah, I haven't taken any magic on my warrior so I wasn't aware. Oh well, guess we're stuck with the blank stare unless you have some magic spells. I usually shout into the sky as I absorb a soul personally.

For some reason that I can't explain, I feel that the animation for absorbing a dragon's soul is a bit off with the wind effects. Instead, bolts of lightening should spew from the corpse and flood the general area with multitudes of electrical pops and sparks, and the player character should convulse and fall to their knees from sensory overload and agony as the dragon corpse skin disintegrates and vaporizes, leaving bones and steam. And it would feel just right in this particular game. Anyone share this sentiment?

Why? You're the Dragon Born, it's not like the soul isn't compatible or anything with you.

It's a perfect fit for you body, not some struggle that forces its way into you.

So no, that would be stupid and make ZERO sense for you to have such a reaction. :toughninja:

forget absorbing souls, your character has an overall lack of reaction to anything and everything. im not asking for much, i know the PC has to be a blank slate and all, but even a feral child with no concept of human culture or individuality emotes when something hits him with an arrow or hes seriously injured... just a few facial and idle animations for different situations, situations like having a giant lizard's soul force itself into your brain. one thing i cant stand about RPGs is how in the interest of keeping you a blank slate, your character will always stand ramrod stiff and never have any sort of facial expression, the bloody character portraits from baulders gate were more convincing humans than that robot acting as the main character in modern RPGs. i suppose its all well and good that TES is meant to be played in first person...

as it is, i understand why they didnt lock you into place or anything for the soul collecting; just think about how many dragons you kill and how annoying that would get. there is no reason they couldnt at least play out a little flinch or "look away from the light" animation that lets you still move around and can be interrupted by any action though.

No, see, the problem with all of this is it takes control out of the player's hands. That's generally bad.

Also you don't want to watch yourself writhe around on the ground or fall asleep for 3 hours every single time you kill a dragon. There are more than two dragons in the game, if you hadn't noticed.

In TES games the player character doesn't really have a voice, doesn't have facial expressions, and doesn't have fancy "lean against the wall because you're too cool for school" animations. It's meant to be a first person game.

I can see your second point -- it would get annoying every time. But at least the first time there should be some "WOW" factor. As for your first point, that doesn't apply throughout the game. There have been a few instances in the game for me already where my character's FOV goes crazy or black as part of the quest. And of course, the critical strike animations yank control right out of your hands.

Lot's of games have facial animations now, MMOs like Rift and Aion. In Aion you do all kinds of climate/land specific things, like when it rains you hold a leaf over your head at times, or if you go idle in a river you will actually grab a fish in the water.

I've seen my character's face change in battle in Skyrim, I wish more things like this were in game. I think it can be modded in fairly easily, using NPC emotes and other animations.
