I found a Half-Life 2 mod that shares some similarities to Brink. It's called Dystopia, and there is a "Punk Rebel team" and a "Corporate Security" team. You can pick a light, medium, or heavy body type. Each class has its own unique weapons. The light body type can use jump boosters to leap to a ledge, then grab it and pull themselves up. Although there aren't classes persay, you can equip characters with abilities that can let them heal themselves and others, hack computers, or a short term invisibility. The heavier the weight type, the more energy you have for these abilities. The few maps I've seen are all attack/defend, where one team attacks sequential objectives and the defending team, well, defends. Search for it on Steam, or here's the official link. http://www.dystopia-game.com/

Enjoy.

That's all good and well, but is it fun?

I only played it for a bit so far, but it seems quite excellent. I'd suggest one go through the tutorial first, and stay away from hacking for a bit until one learns the ins and outs of the game, since hacking takes place in a virtual reality world. I could only pick up one server, but it was full, which is more then you can say for most Half Life mods.

Dystopia is really fun. I played it shortly after it got out of Beta. The body-types and implants allow a lot of different class-builds and playstyles.
You can be the very stealthy kinda guy, or the very anti-stealth. You can be very agile, or very heavily armed. Either you focus on fighting in the real world, or chasing after the objectives in the digital one.

In fact, as I think about it, the game is kinda similar to BRINK.

It was interesting, at the very least. An FPS game that requires more strategy than "pick gun, shoot at enemy" is noteworthy on its own. But i found the learning curve to be a bit steep, which i was willing to deal with. What actually turned me off of it was the fact that it seems to be a single core game, which effectively turns my 2.5 GHz quad into just a 2.5 GHz single core. I was getting 500 ping in game once its more than 4v4.

Multi-core processors use a different architecture than older single core processors that make them run faster even at lower clock rates (a 2.3 GHz Dual core is better than a 3 GHz Single Core). Very few games actually take advantage of multiple processors, they list them in the recommended specs because they are faster than old single core CPUs. Ping has nothing to do with CPU performance, FPS does. Unless your FPS was taking hits then it wasn't the fault of your CPU.

Well, you can say that, but when more people joined the room, my ping shot up to 500, and my 1st core was at 100%, the other 3 were basically idle. I have a 1mb/s connection, so that's not the reason, and someone who lives in the same area as me was getting around 30 ping.

That's odd. Afaik they use the most recent version of Source, which is the same like TF2 uses. So TF2 would run just as bad for you.

I was going to post this here earlier, but I thought it would be taken as advertising. We could possibly run a Brink Fans server until Brink arrives?

Did anyone else go to the Dystopia wiki, read that their is both a Katana and an ability called Wired Reflexes just like in Shadowrun, find nothing about a bullet blocking mechanic, and then do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s?

In response to Aerograt... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs&NR=1

And Ninjat...that's a good idea, but I don't know anyone whose computers can handle running a server (I know mine can't) and I don't think there's quite enough interest in this board to warrant a server to ourselves. The dystopia community is pretty small as it is.

I'll tell you what though, anyone interested add my Steam ID, "ZombieSpy." We'll add each other and we can play together.

I had a Light battle between me and some other guy, both in stealth. With Katanas. Heaps of fun. I'd play it more if there were more servers.

Don't I know it? I love going heavy and just punching everyone in the face. I feel like Chuck Norris in a cyborg suit.

Currently downloading the mod, apparantly there's a http://punyhumangames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=19787 that plays regularly, my main concern for this game is that I'm going to have to spend an hour putting together a decent group. My Steam name is "Sh1n1ngwolf", but I came up with nothing when I searched for ZombieSpy.

EDIT: Nevermind, think I found him, Brink is on his wishlist :P

EDIT EDIT: This site's :P is way too happy...

In response to Aerograt...

Well played sir...

Hmmmmm, well I might consider downloading this. Do I need anything in prerequisite to get the mod? Because I think I have HL2 laying around here somewhere...

COD Black Ops for me, and TF2. Don't worry, I'll be on Dystopia if I see servers.

Good Grief, I hope Brink isn't remotely like this at all. Not trying to troll/put anyone down, but I'm amazed someone can have fun playing this. I tried playing for half an hour and was to the point of monitor smashing.

Really? I thought it was quite fun. Complex and difficult at first, but after you learn, there's multiple ways of going about completing an objective.

Yeah, I think some of the weapon balancing needs tweaked, like that friggin shotgun. But the overall gameplay is quick and complex and fun.
