My char doesn't purchase metals, she has to mine them, or rarely, steal them. Malachite only seems to occur in Steamscorch mine. I have yet to find any outcropping naturally.

Please please please if anyone knows where it can be found, including in the DLCs I'd be grateful to find out.

According to http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Malachite, your next best bet for some Malachite Ore Veins is in Dimhollow Crypt, from Dawnguard. There are also some veins at the Ruunvald Excavation (also Dawnguard specific), and two veins at the Throat of the World.

Not much to choose from as far as mining goes. You may have to svck it up and buy the ores/ingots.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll have to progress down more quest lines to reach it, or wait for Steamscorch to respawn. I did know about the chunk on the Brinehammer and I have rarely found some on bandit kills. I had forgotten about the outcrop on the throat of the world. Two years since I been there! I was hoping some had been found in the wilds, but as I suspected...no! Cheers again!
