Anyone making big quest mods for Elsweyr the Deserts of Aneq

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 4:19 pm

probably not the place for this, but i just gota say:

Illiana, hang in here :hugs:. your work is fantastic and most certainly appreciated. I know first hand how bad the newbs get and how messed up the system is, so all i can say is that we -- those who know how to read readmes, have common sense, and were taught manners -- appreciate all you have done for us.

i would keep the mod up, stop answering questions, and ignore those few pesky thumbs down. hopefully someday the issue will be addressed.

Iliana,

I have been reading the comments on your mod for a while as well and it seems that the troll overload was getting overbearing. I just want to say that if you keep in mind that the trolls are STILL in the minority (even though their visibility is great due to a number of pointless posts they make). There are people out there who genuinely appreciate everything you have done.

Once you have had time to recover from whatever unfortunate events took place in your life, I hope you can find the joy in modding again.

I also second re-uploading the mod with a strict policy of NOT OFFERING SUPPORT due to excessive trolling as of late.

Respectfully,

Jeremy

Iliana, good to hear from you again. I don't know what has happened in your real life, but I can easily understand that the bickering from ungrateful people unable to read a readme can become too much, even without real life interfering.

I really hope you after some time will find the joy in Oblivion modding again and continue on this mod. It is without a doubt the most impressive landscape mod created for Oblivion.

Hi Iliana,

I'm sorry to hear about both your personal problems and problems with users at the Nexus. This is the first I've heard about the matter and I'm pretty sure the moderation team don't know about it either but is this a "simple" case of burning out at the amount of pants-on-heads rookies on the site that can't get a toaster to work and then come on the site blaming everyone but themselves or is there something more to it? Have you tried reporting posts/posters to the moderation team? We obviously can't help if we're not kept in the loop.

The Nexus rating system is going to be getting yet another overhaul in due course. At the moment I'm thinking of bringing in a "Veteran rating system" for members of the site that have reached a veteran status. I.e. only people who have been a member over 2 months and have 200 posts to their name can vote in a 1-to-10 system of old, complete with a minimum 250 word comment or something. That way only people who are serious about the rating system actually being relevant on Nexus sites will be rating files in the new system. I'll then run this new veteran system along-side the old +1 system and remove the thumbs down system altogether so we can avoid anonymous trolling from pipe-weeds. That way there will be two systems; one that's sort of "kudos for files" that anyone can add to and then a more relevant 1-to-10 rating system used only by members who have proven themselves capable of using the site without falling over their own backsides. What do you think about this?

In the mean-time if you're getting tired of the feedback or the ratings then my recommendation would be to create a new file entry on the site and disable ratings and comments. That way your file will not be able to reach the top lists and the people who know their left from their right can still joyfully play your amazing work :)

Your mod was first on my list of new ones to try out after upgrading my system and while I can still download it as an admin of the site I'm sure there are lots of others out there who will be wanting to play too!

All the best,
Robin

Are you able to report on "thumbs down" comments even though the don't show up amongst the comments? I'm pretty sure I looked but didn't find anything.

Anyway, the new rating system sounds like the dog's [censored] :) It's definitely a more fair system. Go for it I say! :D

dark: that does sound like an improvement. 200 posts might be a bit much though -- ive been a member for 4 years now and have only made 33 posts. Maybe factor in kudos or whether the person has uploaded a mod to allow for multiple paths to veteranhood? though i suppose its not that big of a deal.

anyways, my biggest suggestion would be the ability to rate comments on a thumbs up/down system. useful reviews, solutions to questions, legidimate bugs etc. could be thumbed up by users, putting them towards the top of the comments ensuring they will be seen. useless comments could be thumbed down so that they dont have to be seen. the rating of a comment could factor into the rating the file was given: if a person gives a rating of 5/10 and their post gets 5 thumbs down its weighted less than a 8/10 comment with thumbs up.

also, how about a rating system of 5?
5- excellent, only minor issues, great mod
4- good, though some issues which prevent it from being a 5
3- average, segnificant errors, could use improvement
2 - poor, errors, totally unfinished, really dirty, etc.
1 - bad, more errors than content, doesn't do what its suppose to, breaks the game, etc.

its much simpler than a 10 point system imo.

again, glad this is being looked into :)

my biggest problem with the system was not outright flamers and spammers but simply people who didnt read the readme or asked questions which i had asnwered 19488 times before. they didnt do anything worthy of a report, but they still sap spirit and annoy the living daylight out of me.

So, hopefully she'll host it on Rapidshare or some similar site. Right now we have to put or faith in the Rimmen team...

we'll be seeing about that soon, our(ill call it a pre alpha) pre-alpha is going on the nexus soon in hopes of attracting some more modders for our team. im sorta lookin forward to the confusion from people about why its not done is going to draw to the comments box. im sorry to hear about elsweyr being flamed its quite a shame! the work that i alone(not including the rest of the teams work) is unbelieveable and its only a small section of the city! i cant even comprehend the work that went into elsweyr as a whole! i also like the suggestion form comment by dark for the nexus rating system, but like Lady N, im only have 5 posts in like 8 months of membership... so id drop it a little bit.

edit: forgot some words and fixed some typos

I'm very sad to hear this news Illiana :(. Your mod is one of the best ever created for Oblivion, you almost single-handedly created an entire province, something that countless other teams have failed to achieve. I'm sorry that the idiots finally got to you, hopefully the Nexus team will deal with that. But I really hope that after you get your personal life things sorted out and take a break, you will decide to return here. You will be sorely missed until you do :)

Best of luck!

The mod isn't deleted, I just hit the "hide" button on tesnexus to remove it from view it for awhile. When it drops off the bottom of the top 25 in a couple of weeks then I'll reactivate it.

That's good to hear. I hope things work out for you in real life and that you'll return. Your mod is probably the single greatest modding achievement since Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.

It was due to som real life incident. She posted a message about it on Nexus. But now it's all gone from Nexus. :(

That was sudden. Yesterday it was there and now it's goners. :/ [edit] Oh wait, I see the rest of the thread now... I hope you'll return to work on your mods Illiana. Thanks for your hard work. I got to play some of your Elsweyr mod many months ago but since suffered a dead drive and just recently reinstalled Oblivion.. anyhow I thought it was very nice work what I did play of it. I'll have to find the download, where ever it is to get the latest version.

Regarding quests for Elsweyr...

Me and a friend started one back in December. It should have had a short development time.

A combination of real life and getting Dragon Age as a present sort of derailed that. It's being worked on again. I want to have some stuff out on it in the next couple weeks *crosses fingers*.

I admit I have been out of the loop on the Oblivion mod community, what happened to Elsweyr?

Iliana you are a wonderful person, don't let fools get you down. If you need ANY help at all, let me know. It would be a pleasure to lend you a hand.

A simple message to Iliana, you don't know me, you probably haven't ever seen me on the forums, but you can bet that i appreciate all the hard work you have put into your jewel of a mod. Take your time recovering from whatever happened to you and know that everyone in the community will be here waiting for your arrival with smiles (and smileys :wavey: ) If you ever need people to help with the whole troll problem, i'll gladly volunteer. I don't know what happened to you, but i know from personal experience how bad personal problems can be, so just know that you have our full support and my best wishes go to you.

It's really encouraging to see that there are not only idiots lurking in the forums waiting to flame, discourage and finally drive to the exit so many talented modders we have seen in TES community all those years.

Iliana, wish you the best in your personal life, looking forward to seeing you around here again :wavey:

seriously, I bet those people who whine and cry about such a great mod are just immature little kids. I upload a lot of gaming videos on YouTube so I know what it's like. they're annoying but there's really nothing else you can do about them other than ignoring the **** out of them.

Iliana, your mod looks really amazing that's for sure. anyone can easily see that you put a lot of effort into it and it's of very HIGH QUALITY. thanks for letting me know that there are already quests in it. I'll be sure to check em out in the near future.

your hard work is definitely being appreciated & enjoyed by a lot of people. keep it up!

As I couldn't find an official thread for Elsweyr Anequina, thought I'd necro some related thread and congratulate the team that developed this (Iliana and others).

I just wandered south to Elsweyr from Skingrad trying to shortcut through Bravil. As I play with TNO's excellent Map Marker Overhaul with map locations turned off, i was just wandering through the landscape on my own sense of direction. After a few skirmishes with the locals, I wandered through to Fort Searest(?), and from there, eventually on to Dune.

If I had to describe this super-amzing-excellent-sublime even mod in one word, it would be "personality". The cities are beautiful and the NPCs are interesting (and really good looking Khajiit colors), but most important is that they have this sense of foreboding - that crone in the caravanserai, the fortune-teller in her tent, the cryptic mentions of the palace intrigue is just awesome.

I had this mod installed since forever, but I just realised what I had been missing by not going own south of Skingrad! :foodndrink: Congratulations on a wonderful achievement :)

As for the topic of the tread - I don't see http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27302 listed.

That is a big quest for the province.

FYI: Walker in Shadows and Ayleid_people has some not-so-good reviews about that mod listed http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1115554-anybody-knows-what-has-happened-with-elsweyr-anequina/page__view__findpost__p__16379511.
