Anyone not a blacksmith?

My main character won't use Blacksmith due to how busted you can get off of it. In my opinion it's better off to avoid Smithing because once you start on it then it's very hard to not overpower yourself. My current smithing character is level 21 with a Daedric Bow, Sword, Dagger, and Drakeskin Armor set, only took me 2-4 hours of grinding to get to that point.

My mage character doesn't use smithing at all, but then again, she doesn't need it as she wears only clothing.

As an outspoken forum member that believes being a town blacksmith is.. not for me. I can saftely say you just need Arcane Smith, so you can sharpen your blades and buff your armor, and you can hit armor caps and have deadly blades.

At least you will need Arcane smith for master. You could probably get away with no perks on adept, depending on your build.

I second this. You don't need to exploit or farm materials or any of that. However, if you wear armor it is well worth the 2 points to be able to upgrade found/bought, enchanted items.

Neither of my characters have used smithing so far.
One is a mage who wouldn't have any interest in it, the other is an assassin who likewise doesn't feel the need to forge anything.\

Besides I prefer the feeling of finding a useful upgrade in a dungeon, or a shop.

I plan to have a heavy armor wearing blacksmith warrior some time, and he isn't going to have any interest in enchanting or alchemy. Why would he? that stuffs for eggheads.

Cloth wearing mages can definitely do without any smithing.

I've only used the grinder to up Skyforge Steel to (fine) just to see what smithing is like. I've done totally fine without smithing and I'm level 43, you'll find loot/gear that fits you eventually (even dragonplate).

Fortify smithing gear is commonly sold by npc merchants. Using a couple of these items , arcane smith, and a blacksmith elixur allows you to reach legendary status on any weapon or armor found in the games loot/quest reward system.

Since the OP said he did not plan on crafting his own items, arcane smith requires a small investment for a great synergy with that approach.

Huh, I stand corrected.

I feel you can use blacksmithing, just don't take any perks.

In order to be as close to balance as possible, you should only improve gear to flawless. This is because daedric artifacts can only be upgraded to flawless.

The idea is that your crafted gear should be below daedric artifacts.
