Anyone NOT a Dual-Dagger, Archer, Sneak-Thief?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 3:36 am

My first character in every TES game has been a warrior, (Morrowind: twohand, heavy armor. Oblivion: one hand and shield, heavy armor. Skyrim: lvl 50 Heavy armor, one hand and healing). I enjoyed playing as a stealth character the most, though and my lvl 48 Dunmer in Skyrim is a sneak-thief.

It's what I play because it is most fun early game. Not everyone on drops before they detect you, if they do turn up the difficulty. Kiting people around with a bow is fun, also I find it way too frustrating when using a melee and I have to fight a random buffed up Bandit, and they just cleave my health away. There is no way to dodge power attacks from 2H weapons it seems because they sweep and move forward all at once. I tried a dual wield sword khajiit that I want to end up playing like a duelist, but there is no type of parry in this game which ruins it. I understand no block but swinging at the same time as the opponent and parrying would be cooler than just both of us trading hits and see who dies faster. Magic looks epic to me but the early game is kinda zzzz for me. Atronachs and Dremora just wreck everything destruction is pretty but apparently uselss I have heard. I'm kinda scared of playing something straight melee vs Dragon priests too.

Nord Beserker with a massive handlebar mustache and epic mohawk combo which serves as a +45 armor rating by itself. I had a ranger / scout Bosmer but I'm loving my current build. I concentrate on heavy armor and two handed with one handed, smithing and block as secondaries. I put all my points into health and stamina to make a simple yet brutal class. It definitely makes things funner and easier but the biggest downside is the lack of ranged attacks and magical resistance.

Hi, my characters' name is Deidranna, heavy armor warrior, conjurer, enchanter and alchemist. Love her :flamethrower: .

(altough I also have two thiefs, it's really fun).

I've played Morrowind & Oblivion as a warrior/paladin build and that was "easy mode" for me, my last Oblivion character was a stealthy/assassin type and I found it a lot more challenging than playing as a door kicker. This time around, I'm light armoured with sneak abilities. It was pretty challenging at first, its getting easier though I still get one shotted by stuff occasionally, lvl 43.

I have a stealthy character, and while I do go for dagger sneak attacks, I switch it up with Destruction for actual combat. So she's mostly unarmored (wears a robe and hood for mage benefits, gloves and boots for stealth benefits)

Stealth is for boring people. Interesting people walk right up to enemies and hit them with big things over and over. I find it somewhat pure yet dirty.

One requires the ability to use strategy and the other doesn't. Tank battles might be more intense and in-your-face, but they usually lack sophistication in favor of button mashing.

I burn and stab stuff, very low thief skills. It's gratifying and more fast-paced than sneaking around all the time. However, I will say from playing Oblivion that sneaking and using daggers and bows and such can be plenty of fun in certain situations.

I'm close to being a dual dagger archer sneak thief. I only dual dagger when I know I can sneak up on someone. I prefer 1 handed and a shield though.

Yes, I snipe from as far away as I can with a bow.

Yes, I sneak in hostile territory.

Yes, I am the head of the thieves guild. I don't go out of my way to steal though.

The more I play this game, the more I'm starting to think the whole game is built for people to be Thieves.

A lot of the enemies in dungeons are loaded to face AWAY from you (How convenient?) and/or let you spot them from a distance so you can get a bow shot off before they can react.

Everything also appears to be locked up in a safe or chest of some sort. And then there are the traps which can be disarmed.

I can't imagine playing this game as a straight-up Mage or Warrior and getting HALF as much fun out of it without doing any of the Thieving-style stuff.

Has anyone played this game as a Non-Thief/Non-Archer/Non-Ambusher type of build? Was it fun? Or just a Hack-and-Burn the whole way?

I actually have a level 65 Nord Warrior Build with a Wizard as my companion for back up. I do not sneak i go in with guns blazing wasting most with one shot kills. I use my freeze shout and lay into them one on one. My wizard uses chain lighting to hit the rest...yea its fun :-D dont care for the sneaking part. I just smokin them all...i also have a dog that helps so this party of three rocks...

I've played every type of class now, and my current one is an Orc Shadow Knight (2H with summoning). It's been a nice change. Something about charging in with a huge 2H, cleaving everything in front of me, berserking, and having daedra lords or thralls help me out in a pinch has been exciting.

The only game EVER to get a thief right, was, well Thief.

Thieves in most games including this one just become super invisible burst damage. Either they are very gimpy or very OPed, rarely balanced.

I'm not.

I'm a dual-thief, dagger, sneak-archer.

Ok, it's basically the same thing.

Been dual wielding maces since the beginning. Only non-warrior perks I've used have been for restoration and enchanting.

Running a bard that only uses bound weapons, wears normal clothes, and uses the Th'uum as his way of amplifying his voice, or using it in different manners as the way of the Bard. On expert, with the rule of "I die, I start over", and "Only pick up what could conceivably fit into a pocket," with the exception of enchanted weapons/armors and such, and no fast traveling other than carriages.

It's been pretty crazy, and the most fun I've had with skyrim so far. There are so many shouts that it makes using them the best utility I could ask for. Whirlwind sprint is glorious for getting out of battle, or those pesky swinging blades. The detect life whipser is great for preparing for conflict, etc.

Due to the "Die/restart" rule, I'm taking things much more seriously. I talk to everyone that I can, and discovered two followers I never even knew existed in my last playthrough as a thief in the guild. I spend more time than anyone else I know when I visit towns so I can sell what I don't need, Mostly jewelry and such, so I can restock on potions that I keep a variety of. 2 of each resist for elements, skill potions, etc.

It's a frackin' blast, man.

Good choice. There's a Youtube video out that shows why maces do more sustained and burst damage than any other weapon in the game.

Redguard Barbarian. I wield two handers, use archery, smith, alchemy, light armor, and sneak (only 3 perks to get the x3 bow shots). I open with bow attacks and then smash the [censored] out of my enemies.

My first and longest running character is a lvl 41 two-handed-hammer focus, with heavy armor, only casual magic, no sneaking, hardly any lockpicking. A master of smithing and enchanting. It is just about as easy/broken as the archer seems to be. I kill dragons in two hits and giants in one. I don't even own a bow.

My Wood Elf Deveran (who's built to look more human in an attempt to RP a half-mer, half-human wanderer) is more of a spellthief. He uses illusions to hide his presence and muffle his footsteps, and confuse his targets. And he dual wields scimitars.

Hmm well I got an assassin type character who uses daggers while sneaking but switches to swords when spotted (So I guess more of a sneaky warrior).
