Anyone not playing a stealth character?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 4:56 pm

Like the title says. Most people who seem to post on here are rolling a stealthy/sneak character. Which I find to be to easy. Like in Skyrim, with the right perks, you could one shot legendary dragons. This doesn't seem to far off. Anyone not playing this way?

Since I have a CHA and INT based characters, I use stealth. Still, he is not master of it and his AGI is quite low.

At the moment I'm fighting with an explosive legendary combat rifle and unsilenced assault rifles which aren't very stealthy either. I'm at lvl 34 and have upgraded these as well as I can with Gun Nut and Science 3 and I'm also playing on Survivor difficulty and the game is still pretty easy. I just abuse psycho and jet for difficult fights.

I've been playing a fairly decent strength build who's a Brotherhood sentinel and specializes in armor and weapon modifications.

I am playing a sneaky character, it takes more time to do quests and explore. :) I don't want to charge head first through the game and miss out on stuff, apart from that there will be a few years before the next BGS game so there is plenty of time. ;)

*raises hand*

I'm not. Granted, I'll try it on occasion since it's an old combat tactic/habit of mine since Oblivion, but with POWAH AHMAH and how I've been selecting my perks, not really required.

I'm playing a non stealth combat soldier character this play through. I am concentrated on:

STATS: Perception/Endurance - Main
Intelligence/Agility - secondary

Perks: Life Giver / All VATS perks / Gunslinger
Sniper / Medic! / Armorer / Gun Nut /
Demolition

Companion: Nick Valentine (for lockpick & hack)

Armor: ultra thin polymer combat
Armor perks: weapon stabilization & AP gain

Fighting style:
Open terrain- engage at range with sniper & finish off (if needed) with pistol

Indoors- Pistol at range w/ shotgun in close & landmines/grenades for large groups

Power Armor - I eventually went with auto stimpack injector armor & use Minigun & Rockets

Quest style: kill em all

Lower strength loot management: I clear a building or area, dump everything in a single container, then teleport back & forth to base

Which Power Armor? All, I made myself a tony Stark bunker with every Power Armor I found (5 currently) and I build them out differently for different scenarios.

How do you manage low charisma / luck?

I played the start with higher luck for VATs AP refill on crit but quickly learned that I can wreck everything with superior firepower & the right weapon using VATs "show weakness." So got rid of luck.

How do you manage ammo? I make sure to loot everything & sell it to buy ALL ammo & carry weapons for each ammo type. I also use a "soldier approach by scouting in my crappy stealth, setting traps, then funneling mobs through halls to maximize hit percentage.

How do you manage Fusion Cores?
I take my power armor only to fights or buildings. Quick travel my armor to the spot, kill what I need in power armor, then leave my armor on top of their corpses & takeout my fusion core so no one steals it. IF YOU LEAVE your power armor WITH a fusion core in it, both friendly & hostile NPCs WILL STEAL IT!

Tbh, I'm not even sure what my character is yet, I've invested most perks in the charisma tree, some luck etc, modding etc. I've not really chosen any distinctive perks which define my player, and I'm at level 30 haha. I'm leaning toward a melee build, seems really fun especially with some of the perks I've seen, that and the fact my character looks super-duper hot in the Grognak outfit.

I'm playing a Scout-Sniper, but am slowly transition away from it as I get more gear and become more comfortable with the controls. I'm favoring my Combat Rifle more and more these days to my Sniper Rifle.

I like to just run around fast and punch/smack.

Also I tried stealth but I like more fast paced, and it wasn't helpful against scripted enemies or being caught offguard by packs of enemies in open world exploring.

Not me, although I use sneak from time to time when I am coming up to an unknown location or would rather try and bypass a conflict.

I have been playing a pretty balanced character, with my highest values in intelligence and perception. I seem to be moving towards a "tinkerer", one who likes to craft and improve his weapons and armor. I am still at a fairly low level and we will see how my character develops over time. Probably will focus on Science and Engineering type of stuff.

Currently, not much. I plan to play a male army ranger/green beret type of military spec-ops guy, who will use stealth alot later.

That was me pretty much in FO3 and Skyrim. In FO4 I play more stealth based, though I did start to take stealth related perks quite late in my PT.

With the way they've designed enemy behaviour in this game stealth seems kind of pointless. When I'm being rushed by swarms of ghouls I just need raw firepower and survivability.

I'm playing a sort of hybrid-stealth now. I have all the first rank of all the Intimidation Perks, and I like to give every enemy a chance a surrender. So I sort of sneak up on them and yell, "Put the weapon down!" Blows your Stealth chance if it fails, but it is very cool, and feels right for a good character.

It's not. You just need the right perks and load-out. With 3 ranks in Sneak, 1 rank in Ninja, a suppressed weapon, and the Intimidate Perk for animals, creatures, and humans, I can often get through an entire area with minimum detection and violence. I expect that to only increase in effectiveness as I level up. It even works for Ghouls. If you headshot them with a suppressed weapon from Stealth, it often won't break your cover, and Ghouls seem pretty receptive to being Intimidated. "Calm down, you ... freaky .... thing .... you."

I'm rocking a shotgun and very low-range rifles, with some random SMGs for bugs/fast movie target. Not what you'd call stealthy at all :]. I really enjoy how explosive and fun fights are, quite an improvement over past games from Bethesda.

I'm playing a stealth character, every time I sneak into a raider hideout, one of them will comment that I'm using a stealth boy. I'm having a problem finding a decent sniper rifle that doesn't kick like a mule. I'm using .38 pipe rifle that has been modded into a sniper rifle. Its ok, but it doesn't have that knock down power like a sniper rifle. Thinking about trying to make a hunting rifle into a sniper rifle.

Never play stealthy, don't like sneaking and hiding. I much prefer the "kill 'em all, let God sort it out" approach.

Byepolar, that's exactly how you do it. I fully upgraded my rifle into a sniper rifle.

Next I took all the choice mods I found on all guns that I could apply to my rifle (I.e auto tracking scopes, night vision scopes, suppressors, etc and put them on my rifle as I go.

Instead of scrapping or selling weapons, you can take the choice mods off them & THEN scrap or sell them.

Easier to just gun blaze your way through the game actually even on the hardest dificulty, with a stealth character you usually dont have good snipers at the starts, VATS svcks ass now so there is that too, most of the guns you have are trash to sneak attack even on a sneak attack headshot you cant 1 shot most enemies, the best rifle i have found is the energy musket or whatever is called with 3 shots loaded thats the only weapon that can 1 shot in the head from a sneak attack at the level i am and that cant get a supressor... often i regret getting the special i picked (3 str, 5 per, 7 cha, 5 agi, 1 luck) 1 per buble head and 1 extra point from the special book at the beggining, and i wished i picked more offensive specials and i can see already that most of the time is just easier to go guns blazing on everything, not only easier but faster because with stealth you need to actually crouch and go slowly to MAYBE take 1 enemy at a time but not only that VATS in close range is usable, not good but usable but from long range it just svcks ass so you cant count on that.

And much easier to just put power armor on and cheese the entire game from level 1, if you have the perk in luck that gets you more ammo you apparently get a lot of fusion cores... and yo can even actually go in sneak with a power armor and when fully leveled up with the last perk of sneak enemies wont see you even if you are in front of them in full suit of power armor.... yeah they are that dumb.

In the end i believe everything is going to become OP, im playing on the hardest difficulty and honestly it feels like im on normal, i dont even know who would play this on an easier difficulty, probably scrubs (the audience most games cater to this days) but i saw a stream of one of the biggest scrubs out there Angry Joe and wow you can cheese the game with a frigging knife and stab everything no problems.
