If that is a poor photoshop job, the real question is what are they trying to hide?

Erm yes it is. To achieve that movement effect it's as simple as using a normal or displacement map with a panner animation effect. The only complicated bit is creating relection, refraction ect.

Also the top bit of the grass by the tree goes over the water, while the corner below it does not.

Zoom in close. Apart from the grass on the bottom right (which cuts off), when the grass overlaps with the water it goes opaque. So does the grass by the tree - which fades out near the water then goes solid when the tip overlaps with the island. So it could be really really really bad editing or just that there's something wrong with the way they have things set up in their alpha build.

Also the grass on the island seem to cut off, but it's probably just short.

I might be wrong, but just throwing this idea out.

Perhaps it is a loading screen, and they wanted to smooth out the edges (like a border). It could even be used with another border, and the smoothed out corner/side would just be the design of it.
There were fort loading screens in OB.

It definitely looks edited. My guess is that they removed an effect that you can see on MGE grass when the field of view of water, is crossed by Grass. I don't have a screenshot, but it nothing serious, but for some reason, you can see the refracted light in the water, displayed on the grass. It's something more obvious than the quick shopping that seems to have happened here, but definitely nothing people are going to take a second look at.

might have been something there that they didnt want us to see ,... a spoiler of one kind or another

that actually sounds like the most reasonable argument yet. up till now they have been very careful about how much info is in the screenshots. they might have realized at the last minute that there was some creature or something they didnt want to talk about till later on. it would be interesting to find out if they had the original picture up and then changed it quickly......perhaps google crawler might have gotten a copy of it. :)

by now they should be pretty much done with the graphics and working on bughunting and balancing issues at this point. yes the game come out in november but remember that they are going to need a couple of months to get the DVDs printed and shipped out everywhere.

maybe they just thought a tree would look nice their
maybe it has something to do with that deleted pic we saw?

I see what you are saying Four, but there are some long pieces of grass that go beyond the shoreline (over the middle) and look fine. Because the grass alpha is interacting with the water alpha, I would expect a little bit of translucency, but the grass in the corner just totally cuts off.
The middle island looks fine to me as well, it just looks like it is too far away and short to show that it sticking up over the water. Oh well.

Edit: On another note that is the forest log from the Orc screen. Probably obvious though.

Yeah, well maybe they edited the corner grass out because they thought the translucency was too obvious... or maybe there was a werewolf corpse there or something they didn't want anyone to see.

I really want to know what It was now lol.

Is there a guy with a black hood walking along the wall there? There is no black holes like that along the same wall, if it is a hole.

I was thinking about the grass as well, but could there be a HUD element that wasn't faded out properly? Although there was never a HUD element there in Oblivion.

I thought that guy....was a guy too, would make sense since that fort is definently occupied.

Ha! Thats a photoshop job for sure. I actually think the water isnt even there in game, if you look at it closely, it looks a bit off all around, you can actually see near the far end a plant sticking through it. I think the entire water portion of the image was edited in

I'm 100% certain that's been edited. They obviously didn't like how the grass looked and they didn't want to crop the photo. So, they just stamped and painted in a little bit of water over the top of the grass and walla!

The Main point of the photo is the architecture, and the grass must have been distracting as it overlapped with the water. If you look a little bit to the left of that sharp transition, you'll see the top of the grass is a little grayed out, that's using the brush tool, with a grayish blue shade at about 25% opacity. It's very easy to edit a digital image, especially one of a game. It looks like a very quick thing they did right before releasing or uploading the photo.

It's possible, but I don't think they would of wasted the time to create that pond. I think they simply edited the water to cover up the top of the grass. So they used the stamp tool, and then brushed over it to look nice, and by nice I mean the same as the rest of the water in game.

Yeah, I noticed this a while back. Made a thread about it, too.

The general consensus was "Stop [censored]ing and lick Bethesda's feet!".
