Anyone Noticed This?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 8:58 am

Okay so I was browsing through the forums at Nexus and someone pointed something out that I missed.

If you look at the fort picture below, in the bottom right hand corner, the grass cuts off when it hits the water. The other grass is perfectly fine until it hits a certain spot.

Do you guys think this image was edited in some way, or is there some sort of weird rendering issue going on? I would have thought that if it was a rendering issue, the rest of the
grass would be the same when it hit the water.

I am also not complaining, it's just I found it a little odd myself.

I'm not worrying, I'm just saying it looks edited to me, which I don't think is fair on peoples judgement.

Meh, little detail in a huge world. Don't worry about it, they still have 5 months to polish this kind of stuff

On a related note, in the trailer when the dragon is about to crash there's a tree that pops in from one frame to another ... this is the kind of stuff they're going to be fixing in the coming months... i hope..

I don't know why people think I'm worrying. What I want to know is why did they edit that "bit". You can see there is also some grass at side of the tree that is cut off.

Wow, good eye. I'm not sure what to make of it. It could be a technical error from the new water shaders or whatever they're using to make water or it could be a photoshop cover up to hide some jagged grass which is the result of no anti-aliasing on the consoles.

EDIT: It looks like a really bad photoshop though.

Tis a rendering problem. Looked at it closely in Photoshop. Some of the other grass has faded out but not cut off completely. Happens all over the pic.

I've seen this sort of thing in games before.

yeah i reckon they should give up on combat mechanics and the other stuff and spend heaps of time making the graphics look more amazing then they already are

I wonder if there was a plant that you could get ingredients from there that they didnt want to show yet.

I havent noticed any plants that you can gather yet, besides the nirn in the trailer of course.

Please. If Bethesda did edit something out you'd never notice. It's rendering problems.

You changed your post. I do not think it is rendering problems. If it were, no grass would be able to render over the water, which we can see half of it does. It's not hard to render a flat plane with an alpha texture upon it. Alpha is a very old game technique.

But water isn't as a simple flat plane. It has many different shaders. So while the grass is simple something could be going on. And it happens all over the pic, and only where there is water.

That is clearly edited.

Doesn't mean it was edited by Bethesda.

Nice Find! It may be edited or a rendering issue, but to me it isn't that big of a deal. I'm sure we'll get a better feel of what the things look like (in terms of whether there are any graphical anomalies such as this) with the live demo(s) at E3 in a few days.

Erm yes it is. To achieve that movement effect it's as simple as using a normal or displacement map with a panner animation effect. The only complicated bit is creating relection, refraction ect.

Also the top bit of the grass by the tree goes over the water, while the corner below it does not.
