Anyone planning a machinma?

Post » Fri Mar 04, 2011 1:57 pm

This is one of these things that I've never enjoyed. I don't have friends who enjoy them, or enough to talk about them. I'm sure some people enjoy them, but the comedy in them is quite simply rude, crude, and socially unacceptable most of the time.

Well most of the comedy is crude and rude, but socially unacceptable they are not. Atleast the good ones aren't. There are ones that are smart, serius, griddy, and all around cool.

I agree, if I was a elementary school teacher. People need to learn machinimas aren't just comedy like RvB and DigitalPh33r's series. Comedy is just very popular, machinimas are no different then movies, any genre can be done, it's all up to the director.

You say it as if it's a fact, while it's not.

There obviously are machinimas that are quite enjoyable. It all comes down to personal preference.

It's my opinion. Since it's my opinion, it is a fact considering that it has not been disproven. Facts are simply information that no one has disproven.

Yeah, but the fact says that just you don't like them.
Besides, their quality depends on who makes them.

You can persuade someone to make him change opinions, but it's impossible to disprove an opinion.

Can you disprove that I like to watch anime? No.
Can you then conclude that Anime is entertaining for everyone? No.

Therefore your statement doesn't make sense.

Opinions are fact if impossible to disprove. I'm not saying that no one likes them. The fact is essentially
Spoiler
I don't like them.

In response to this, I will quote Russell's Teapot. It was written in response to people saying "You cant prove that god doesn't exist" which is very similar to what you have said.

If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is an intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time.

But anyway, just because you aren't a fan is no reason to "hope" that none are made. I'm not a fan of chick flicks, but I don't go around hoping that Hollywood never makes them. The fact that they exist doesn't affect me in any way. (Unless my GF drags me to go see one, THEN I might hope it was never made, but I doubt anyone will force you to watch machinima)

Are you saying that my opinion isn't true?

I can assure you it's my true opinion, and it is not a lie like Mr. Russell's teapot.

Your opinion is that you dont like them, that is a fact.
They're one of those dumb things that people somehow like.

This is not a fact, you did not express it as an opinion.
Facts are simply information that no one has disproven.

This assumption is incorrect, as argued by Russell's teapot.

forum-place to express yourself: a medium in which the public may express opinions

Since I'm doing it on a forum, common sense should allow you to determine it's a forum.

Yes, I understood what you meant, but you're the one that started the semantics argument.

I'd more of blame it on the individual who stated my opinion is not fact, but feel free to blame it on you choose.

You're opinion is a fact for yourself. Your opinion is not a fact in general, your opinion may not be a fact for other people. Since this is a place where there are other people...

I think - and I'm just giving one example here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvlRQ90c9Bk was really entertaining. And very well made.

Woopie-doopie-doo!

Chiming in here again to tell you .... *drummroll*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2cHd_KBpGI&hd=1&#t=0m5s is why a well made theatre mode takes every game beyond awesome (and even though you might be blinded by the sheer awesomeness in this - even H0RSE wiill not be able to heal you from it - you'd better watch through the whole thing).

Did anyone see that Halo Reach machinima called 'Pissed Off Guy?' That video is the epitome of the reason why I hate machinima.

It wasn't a story driven one. But it wasn't a frag- or stunt-movie either. So it works along the lines of "machinima".

Also it's main purpose was to demonstrate how powerful a theatre-mode is (see my first post in this thread). It's just sooooo much more than using a character to film stuff. Or even a simple free-fly-camera spectator mode.

W:ET just had the free flying camera mode and people have made some AMAZING videos with it (a little harder than it should be mind you). Brink should have camera mode at least, hopefully.
