Anyone sad about Dogmeat?

Post » Sun Aug 22, 2010 5:42 pm

Ok, so there is the companion Rex, the cybernetic dog robot... thing. But Dogmeat has been in all of the numbered Fallouts. I will say he's been really easy to kill, but I still felt a sort of companionship when he was in the party, or trying to tear off my face in Fallout 1.

On the poll for companion I actually picked Rex as the most interesting. I'm just wondering how his quest will go. Maybe he is Dogmeat, I dunno. I'm rambling now. The real question is would you rather have Dogmeat or Rex?

I honestly couldn't pick. I love Dogmeat for nostalgic reasons, but Rex looks like he can murder up someone properly.

I'd rather have Dogmeat, Rex is cool but it's just too weird and doesn't fit too much ,in my opnion, to the game. But I am okay with it.

Also:
"Dogmeat has been in all of the numbered Fallouts."

New Vegas isn't numbered so you see how it works

Dogmeat was just annoying in Fallout 1. He had a [censored]load of AP and would make combat last forever. And he was useless in Fallout 3 without the Broken Steel glitch. He's really only good for the Firelance encounter.

Dunno if he is worthwhile in Fallout 2 though.

Well, you can look at it like this, New Vegas technically isn't a numbered Fallout. Bethesda will probably bring in a new Dogmeat in Fallout 4 though.

Not particularly, companions in every fallout are useless IMO.

Well I'll miss Dogmeat but Rex seems like an awesome companion.. Stop comparing Rex to Dogmeat and give him a chance!

Nah, in FO2 they are pretty useful, some enemies and encounters are hard and can kill you easily if you don't have a companion to aid you.
In FO3 companions really svcked.

I see that. But anyways, it made the wasteland less lonely. However I do constantly shoot Charon in the face. He creeps me out, but he is really useful.

Edit: I will give Rex a helluva chance, he looks awesome. It's kind of like missing an ex girlfriend 'cause she plays hands free catch the quarter, and your new girlfriend, although better at it smells like cheese. Apples and Oranges I guess.

Enclave Power Armor and that submachine gun thingie (I can never remember it's name) are my only friends in Fallout 2

Rex seems fine for me....its just that brain is gonna creep me out everytime I see it. I know its kind of essential to his backstory, but, its still gonna be weird for me.

I'm glad he isn't a companion.
Good riddance.
Hopefully he's not coming back for Fallout 4 either.

Rex on the other hand seems interesting.
Any confirmation on whether or not he can talk?
And is it robotic or through the mind like Blood from A Boy And His Dog?

I never really cared about him in F3, until i got the broken steel glitch. I got him, and 5 minutes later he died from a mine....

Dogmeat's had his day. It's time to let him go and embrace the new dog.

Dogmeat's presence in Fallout 2 wasn't canon, he was an easter egg. It was absolutely ridiculous how he was in Fallout 3 though. I'd rather not see Dogmeat in another Fallout game ever; I mean for god sakes is it really that hard to come up with a new dog name? Though honestly I don't think we really need a dog companion at all, all of the dog companions (normal and cybernetic) have been consistently useless so it seems rather pointless to keep including them.

I don't miss Dogmeat and Rex is way better, he shows you where the items are with his perk.

Give Dogmeat a rest. The original Dogmeat died in the final stages of Fallout 1, as the vault dweller's diary (part of the Fallout 2 handbook) stated. That was roughly 120 years prior to New Vegas. The only way you could get Dogmeat in Fallout 2 was through a special encounter that you had to get lucky to get. He wasn't part of the normal game. Fallout 3 had "a" Dogmeat simply as a way to try and tie Fallout 3 into the first two games and keep people from realizing just how much Bethesda destroyed Fallout. Dogmeat is dead, let him rest. Give Rex a chance. If you really must you can pretend he is Dogmeat turned cybernetic.
