Anyone still having savegame issues?

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2009 10:57 pm

Yes, my quick saves and manual save are not working, no matter what I do. So I am waiting for a patch before I play anymore.

The old saves are stored in your Steam->Userdata->#####->#####->Remote folder (the ####s are random or something, just look through them till you find the FalloutPrefs.ini file).

Oddly enough, the problem suddenly stopped happening a few seconds ago (while I was in the middle of testing it out). The Userdata backups have disappeared and don't appear to be coming back (yay!).

This solved my problems, thank you. (The one place I didnt look)

So far all seems to be fine.

I am curious what the problem actually is here though. Many blame the STEAM Cloud for the issue, and understandably so.
But I have quite a few games that use this same feature, CIV5 for example, and never had a issue like this. It is odd to say the least.

At any count, deleting those files seems to have worked, at least for me. Thnaks again.

You answered one of my 3 questions

Getting snide with people isnt helping.

This game shouldnt of even launched in this state. No quality control what-so-ever. The save problem is just 1 of the game crippling bugs that im having. Ive leveled 5 times so far, yet im still lvl 2. I get randomly teleported to areas as if i fast traveled. NPC appear from no where and constantly lock me in with spammed conversation (funniest part is the line im harassed with is "I dont have time to talk now maybe later").

This game launch is a complete atrocity and the developers should be ashamed there asking money for a completely broken product even PC Gamers Magazine stated the bugs arent just crippling, they make the game completely unplayable. When we have to rely on "average joes" to help us fix gaming problems you can tell the industry is going downhill. I can see why piracy is so rampant.

And yes before you even suggest it my drivers, direct x, ect. is completely up to date. I was a tester for Westwood before they sold out to EA.

I am really really really dissapointed in F:NV. Let Bethesda make the games from now on, atleast they worked at launch.

Are you playing Offline or Online? Do you have the Steam Cloud disabled for this game?

And, does this happen with manual saves? Or just the Auto and Quick?

Just for grins, after the game launches, disconnect the Internet (unplug the Ethernet Cable) and see what happens. In fact, you should not even need to connect up to Steam to start the game if your credentials are stored locally. I want to see if Steam sqaucks about something when you are doing this

I was playing online. I disconnected from the internet and tried again. Same problem. Manual saves works, quick and auto revert to old versions.

Your not alone. Ive tried everything posted here and on the other forums and so far nothing. Hard saves work, auto/quick revert. If you wanna play you need to hard save like im doing, until then we just need to wait for obsidian to get off there butts and fix the bugs that should of been fixed long before launch. But hey atleast you got some shiney stuff for preordering. :sadvaultboy:

Yup same here, expect them to just trickle updates while tucking there tails between there legs. This is just sad. Atleast i have fable 3 to look forward to still. This game was a total dissapointment.

Soo.. according to the stickied post above, they think they've fixed the save/steamcloud issues. I'm still losing autosaves/quicksaves AND settings. Have tried restarting/re-verifying etc, no luck. I don't think anything has changed. Who is still having issues?

The patch did NOTHING to fix my savegame issues.

Why must the damn game insist on using the Steam saves? What an incredibly annoying and rather glaring problem.

If your game crashes, just go to your Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Save and do one of these:

1) Rename the autosave.fos and the quicksave.fos files to something else (ex. I just won 20000 caps.fos) and it will now be a hard save.
2) Make a copy of the autosave.fos and quicksave.fos files. Windows 7 will name it autosave - Copy.fos. You can leave it at that or rename it as above.
3) Copy the autosave.fos and quicksave.fos to a safe place. If they get overwritten when you restart the game, ALT-TAB out of the game and copy them back to your Save directory.

I really think until Steam gets this issue resolved there are going to be issues unless you manually save the game.

I'd have to agree with that. The best option is to disable the cloud, and run in offline mode at this point. I gave the steam save thing another go and it decided to load quick and autosaves from yesterday from my test character.
