Anyone still having savegame issues?

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:08 pm

Soo.. according to the stickied post above, they think they've fixed the save/steamcloud issues. I'm still losing autosaves/quicksaves AND settings. Have tried restarting/re-verifying etc, no luck. I don't think anything has changed. Who is still having issues?

Yeah my game keeps reverting back to the same two saves every time I close the game and reopen it.

Same. Win 7 64. Everything was fine until steam updated yesterday. If I do a regular save through the ESC menu that works, so I decided to play a little and do a hard save at the end, but the game crashed before I saved so I'm just not going to play for a while.

Are you playing Offline or Online? Do you have the Steam Cloud disabled for this game?

And, does this happen with manual saves? Or just the Auto and Quick?

Just for grins, after the game launches, disconnect the Internet (unplug the Ethernet Cable) and see what happens. In fact, you should not even need to connect up to Steam to start the game if your credentials are stored locally. I want to see if Steam sqaucks about something when you are doing this

i can't auto save or quick save. if i exit the game and come back my save location is always the exact same one. even when I deleted the auto save and quick save or I over ride them (even the screen states quick save) my options at the start of each new gaming sessions are the exact same ones.

i can save from the menu just fine but auto save and quick are completely useless.

so when is the real game coming out obsidian?

I'm having the same issue. Disconnected from net, so I am playing in Offline mode. Disconnected cloud. win 7 64. Only happens with quick and autosaves.

Out of curiosity I tried everything you asked. I disabled steam cloud for FNV, switched to offline mode AND disconnected from the internet. The game ran fine, same as always. I loaded up my latest save, generated a new quicksave and autosave.. tested them.. they both loaded fine. I then exited the game and restarted, whereupon same as always the new quick/auto saves are gone and replaced with very old ones. I tried deleting my quick/auto saves and .baks and reloading and the old ones magically reappeared this way as well.

I tried going offline on Steam and saving, both quick save and manually, and it didn't really change anything. I did however learn that when I load into the game if I select to "load" and select what save I want It will work. If I hit "continue" it goes back to the old file. I still can't quick save though.

Thanks, I am at work so I am testing vicariously through you.

I do know that the Steam backups are stored locally and until I deleted it it kept re-appearing (note I never Autosave and disable those features). Also, during the day yesterday, I kept getting my manual saves backed up on me too until I told the game to play Off Line. However last night I did not have any of these issues.

Do a search in the Steam directory and look for Autsave (and or Quicksave) and delete what you find in there that pertains to Fallout New Vegas. Then try it again please

I was having the same problem. Hard saves are the solution.

Did this issue start all of a sudden for you guys after the latest steam patch as well? Something in that patch is what is causing the problem, I'm sure of it. A temporary fix could be to revert to pre-patch steam, but I'm not sure if that is even possible.

The old saves are stored in your Steam->Userdata->#####->#####->Remote folder (the ####s are random or something, just look through them till you find the FalloutPrefs.ini file).

Oddly enough, the problem suddenly stopped happening a few seconds ago (while I was in the middle of testing it out). The Userdata backups have disappeared and don't appear to be coming back (yay!).

I deleted the old saves which were stored in the Steam>Userdata directory and it indeed fixed the issue, causing the correct saves to be displayed when I next launched the game. However, as soon as I exited FNV again, I noticed steam "synchronizing", rolled my eyes, and checked and sure enough steam cloud was once again enabled. I checked my Userdata and a new set of backups were now present. Though thankfully these are current, and if the game continues synchronizing properly there won't be a problem. However if it doesn't, then I imagine the problem will persist. I am going to try once again disabling steam cloud for FNV and deleting the Userdata files and theoretically I should have no more problems (unless steamcloud turns itself on again).

I actually didn't have a problem with it yesterday, but when I ran the game for the first time today (a couple of hours ago) the auto and quick save files were overwritten with ones from Goodsprings way back when I started the game. Luckily I hard saved before quitting last night.

I deleted the files in the Steam\userdata\...\22380\remote directory, launched the game, made a quick save and exited. I started the game again, and it overwrote the quicksave with the old one and restored the autosave that I deleted. I have Steam Cloud disabled for New Vegas, that was the first thing I did after installing after reading of the problem. Steam says I have 2.24MB stored on the cloud for New Vegas. Is there any way to remove the remotely stored data?

My saves are always reverting to the same 2 saves from hours before the last quicksave/autosave for the night I had last night. There is a quicksave.bak file that is close to the correct one except I dont know how to make it a .fos or be read by fallout.

On a side note, ever since FNV started "syncing" again a few minutes ago, it is also re-downloading the "classic pack" pre-order bonus (similar to the caravan pack except for gamestop customers) every time I launch the game. I'm not sure why it's doing this, I've checked my steam directory and the classic pack files are there, I see no reason for it to download it every single launch. Ideas?

Delete the locally stored Remote content (that is an oxymoron) and delete the Quick and Autosaves from the My Games/Fallout New Vegas Saves folder (not sure on the exact folder spelling) then try it again.

I really think until Steam gets this issue resolved there are going to be issues unless you manually save the game.

OK that worked. When I went back in the game, it still showed the old saves. But I played a little, made sure I had a new auto and quick, before I exited, and then went back in. The new saves were there. I'm staying off the cloud and offline for now.

Seems to be working properly for now. It's updating the remote savegame upon every exit now. Though I don't care to trust my gameplay experience to unreliable steamcloud servers with millions of users, so I think I'll just leave it disabled and enjoy the game :P

Its still undoing fallout.ini and old autosave games for me. Yes, I have cloud turn off in both places (global and for fallout NV). The fallout steam cached userdata files deleted.

I went into fallout.ini to make some manual adjustment and steam just overwritten it. These steam inflicted problems are just punishing the people who paid for the game. None of the people using a hacked version are having these problems.
