Maybe you need to find a program called "Fairly Wacky, but clinically sane Bump"?

I recomend you to save the normal maps as DX1, it should ease your problem.

shiny texture = white alpha channel in normal map. either open the crazybump file in PS/GIMP and resave as DTX1, or do so in the save dialog of Crazybump.

just for the record :)

USed to use it while it was in BETA but cant justify the $99 license fee for the amount of use I'd get from it - definitely a nice program but a bit pricey for casual usage.

Paint.NET with a normal maps plugin works wonders. And it works in 64 bit Windows 7 too :)

Works fine on 64 Bit Windows 7

Paint.net has Arthmoor stated has a decent normal map plugin, but, I do not think it has has many options has the Gimp Version does..

http://www.photosculpt.net/ Is another very nice tool to create normal maps with.
Additionally, it can create .obj files from photos. If you have decent enough photos to work from. (High Quality)

The normal map for my road texture was made using the GIMP plug-in, it's pretty nice. Of course that had an alpha channel to go by to define the normal map, I'm thinking it might be somewhat more difficult when working on more complex things.

Anyone ever hear of ssbump?

IDK how people can justify charging 100-300 dollars for something that took them next to nothing to make.
