Anyone want a more developed society in FO4?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:13 pm

So yeah, thats the question, in the wasteland the most we see as a society is basic trading, a rough currency and no real government being formed, the best we see for law enforcement is in Rivet City where the guards don't really care about law and order, they are there for just that, security, make sure that people don't go blazing the place up and thats about it. Megaton is the next biggest and well its pretty much ramshackle and there is again no government.

Would anyone like to see in the next Fallout a real society beginning to emerge? maybe more organised cities with a police force, a solid form of government, and maybe even their own type of military or militia and the appearance of society making a comeback or would you rather it remain in a state of barren, hostile and survival of the fittest all around? of course in the wasteland outside of any real city it would be pretty much the same but I'm just wondering if someone wants to see an organised nation begin to emerge.

I think that FO4 should still have unorginized society, some towns and settlements could have a small group of militia, but it matters on how far in years, FO4 would be.

If you mean tech, yes, I'd like to see some large, well-developed oases, kind of like Vault City or GNR in FO2. Larger towns would be welcome in general. Beyond that, no, I want the Wasteland to stay wild and crazy. There should not be urban sprawl in FO.

If by society you mean factions that would be cool, yes i know it would be a bit more like oblivion, but i think that would be cool to have, and maybe a bit bigger cities, with a bit more law and order in their own areas and a bit outside, with the inbetween still settled by whoever can VATS the other person in the groin faster (one of the few sad points of FO3, i miss the groin target) Not necessarily a central gov't, but something more akin to the native tribes of america, where each city is treated like a tribe, they may sometimes fight each other, and depending on who you help would affect faction loyalty or something, give better discounts somewhere but lose trust in another place, take the karma aspect to the next level "that [censored] always kills innocent people, but only from rivet city, so i guess he could be ok since he leaves us along" kind of deal. add some tense treaties that could be intercepted and edited by the player, or have the ability to wage covert war against one and have them blame the other, sparking another war amongst the already downtrodden people that lack the controller/keyboard and VATS. Having the ability to affect cities in a way that doesn't necessarily involve just killing a vendor or something

i dont want to see a fully formed government or anything but maybe one in the process that you may help with /become part of with corruption and blackmail and hired mercs and expeditions and red cross type missions.

or maby it could be like the beings of a feudal era Japanese system where you have your own land but still do things for the main gov

lost of possibilities but it would be cool if a few people got there heads together and finally started piecing this mess back together i mean they finally have clean water

I think it'd be nice to have a big military force attempting to take control of a major region. Of course, we'd have to have their "intentions" be quite misplaced (as how boring would a Utopian society bringing people "together" in the wasteland be?), but the player would have a choice of whether to help them or not. People would be choosing security over everything else in this society (so there would be lots-o-executions, and such. Also, Secret Police).

I'd expect some degree of progression, especially if the next game takes place somewhere in the same area as Fallout 3. Like Fallout 2 did. You saw the beginnings of NCR, and places like Vault City, etc. It seemed like due to the actions of your character from Fallout 1 (which assumes you took the "good" path in that game, of course) that things had begun to settle down enough to allow at least the beginnings of a real infrastructure in the area, the foundations around which a real society could start to form.

I'd expect something like that in Fallout 4, as well.

One thing that I'm starting to get worried about is that if these games continue taking place later and later in the game's fiction, that at some point we'd start seeing some real growth out of the post-apocalypse and some real rebuilding of civilization. Right now at 200 years after the bombs, we're starting to really push the envelope of people just barely scraping by on the remnants of the world before. Much longer living like that, and humanity likely would start dying out, if no real attempts at improving things start to go on. There's only so many cans of beans to be found before you have start getting some real agriculture and such going, after all.

Id like to see FO4 more like FO2 with more cities, some with great technology and government and some with none. And take another jab at Scientology lol @ Hubology.

I think it'd be cool to have FO4 in another city and have Lyon's pride come along with you to establish the BoS there. Then once you arrive and start getting things settled you will begin to encounter BoS members coming from the west, when you enter the town you've established with some other locals see some BoS members approaching, when you and some others go out to greet them, they greet you with a hail of gunfire. Then have the BoS slaughter most of the townspeople and some escape. Then find out later that the western BoS has decided to move against Lyons and his new agenda and to kill anyone who might oppose them, would be a good shock for those who see the BoS as friends, considering the BoS truly are only after technology and are more than willing to kill you just incase you have a battery that they want for their remote =) lol

I'd like to see a more complex social structures in general.

I know that I was greatly disappointed when I learned that all of the "raiders" were a single group, as coherent as the Enclave or the Brotherhood - as opposed to a varied and competitive, and even ocassionally allied, group of gangs.

From characters in general, and groups for certain, I'd like to see some intrigue, some diplomacy, and certainly plenty of manipulation, cooperation of self-interest, and some good old fashioned backstabbing.

As it is all of the non-named (and sadly quite a few named) characters come across as pretty "soul-less" and shallow.

I'd also like to see a more complex economic world, in which people have jobs... be it farmer, rancher, etc...

People should be trying to eek out a living... not just running jogging a circle around town, and not disappearing to "off-world" cells...

Get a job and go to work (or not, as the case may be)!

If they did that this time around I'd think Bethesda'd be sued to hell.

I think a city with corrupt guards who routinely steal, assault citizens and all that fun stuff would be cool, have the town tormented by them, and tax and extort them, then you roll into town, receive threats and eventually start killing off the guards and their officers one by one to reclaim the town, and gain good karma as you do it, because lets face it, guards piss people off in general, even good characters, so at least give us a town where we can kill the @sswipes lol

Not that I'm bored of FO3 by any means but I just can't help but wonder what people want to see in the future, I'm blown away by FO3, just wondering what they'll drop on us next.

EXACTLY! Like in Fallout 2. I mean this is one of the biggest deficiency in Fallout 3. There are only locations located chaotic on the map without any logic and social structure. In fallout 2 every city represent different sociological model. Fallout 3 is dumb game. YOU FAIL, BETHESDA!

Its a fine line to tread... How much society can redevelop before you become "Post-Post-Apocolyptic"?

I'd like to see some stronger government, at least at the town level, maybe even an alliance of a few towns. This would need to be balanced - In addition to "Last best hopes" there must be a corresponding counterweight - A place of Total Anarchy, vilanary and scum. A Reno, or Den to Vault City and NCR. For every town in Democracy, there must be a corresponding area with tyranny. IT must be made clear, that whilst the candle of hope burns, it is a dim flicker, and can be extinguised very easily.

Well, to the level of e.g. the Hub in Fallout.
