Anyone want to play "spot the fps killer"?

What is the wattage of your PSU? 550W and 600W are not very different. I was just giving a general target.

I know :) .., But he was worrying about it so I thought I'd mention it.

Has BOSS been used at all on this load order?

It looks like BOSS has been run on this load order, but not since the UOMPs were installed.

Edit: ...definitely crossed the line there, sorry...

Does he have a dedicated sound card?

Not anymore, I apparently ruined it in an accident building this PC. Apparently I didn't follow the instructions correctly. Its my first built PC.

Also, I have to head on in to work, thanks a lot for all the advice and suggestions, I'll be sure to go review my mods and take out unneeded/over intense ones.

Sorry, my patience is definitely running thin here, and it is not because of you or the OP... It is really nice outside, and I did not even notice until venturing off to lunch about an hour ago...

Edit: Seriously, clear blue sky, sunny and green... :(

You never stated where you getting the fps drop or what you frame rate are etc..

If during combat, then do you have onboard sound card (use quietfeet max mod)

If happening during moving between cells, try lowering your resolution since using heavy mods once again.

Oblivion is not a shooter game once again. 20 to 30 fps is the norm most people get with heavily modded system once again. It cites fps will usually drop to around 15 or 20 depending on amount of npc around etc..

Update MMM to 3.7b3 Version and get UFCOM update has well.

The power supply really shouldn't be an issue unless the game is actually crashing a lot or the system itself is throwing errors around. It doesn't sound like there's much reason to suspect faulty hardware in this case. Just overload on fps heavy mods.

On the topic of power supplies 500 is often more then enough as is, until you start throwing SLI/Crossfire into the mix, no idea why that is such a misconception. 600 in his case is overkill.

The main reason for that is because the larger wattage supplies provide better amps on the 12V rail, which is really what's most important. You can actually find 1000W supplies with poor 12V rail amps, and 400W supplies with really good 12V rail amps. Any decent card sold these days will have this power requirement mentioned on the side of the box. Since his game isn't crashing and his systsem isn't unstable, I'd wager his 12V rail is doing just fine.

Indeed. A high quality 400w PSU or so should be fine, btw.

Things is, most people do *not* have a quality PSU. So "550w" often equates to around 300-400 "real watts" (i.e., amps on the 12v rails). At best. And then it will also be less efficient, reliable, cool, and long-lived, as a rule.

A 5770 should tear through Oblivion without breaking stride (not to mention that it's extremely power efficient). A C2D is perfectly OK as a CPU too, and again doesn't draw much.

Anyway, I would have to agree that RAEVWD plus BC is likely to be the culprit.

edit: And you might find using PyFFIed meshes, as well as making sure you have all the latest updates for *all* mods, and have QTP3 Redimized rather than "full" could all contribute positively, somewhat.

Okay, I've got the fixes for the outdated mods, and now my game is running smoothly again. The only thing is, it seems I have ANOTHER problem to deal with: Anti aliasing doesn't seem to work, no matter what setting I put it on. Everything looks all jagged, as if I set AA to "none", even when it is set to x8. I even tried to force AA through Catalyst Control Center, but everything still looks the same.

Edit: And yes, its set to bloom.

Are you using Oblivion Graphics Extender?

Also, the use of HDR disallows the use of AA, by default at least.

Yes, I am.

Is that the problem? This only started this morning, last night I had OBGE and AA worked fine. I have no idea what happened

Do not use Oblivion's AA settings. I do not use AA, but I know you can force it outside of the game.

AA and OBGE do not work fine. At least, not together. There's your problem.

OBGE v2 does include an option of "edgeAA", but to be honest, I';ve not had much luck getting that to do what I expect AA to do. YMMV.

Oh, I see.

Well, is there any other mod that does what the Godrays feature from OBGE does? Seeing the sun shine through the trees as you're trekking through a forest is such eyecandy.

Not that I'm aware of. It's (currently, at the very least) the one big downside with the amazing benefits that OBGE brings. :(

edit: Though, for a lesser effect that is still mildly reminiscent, Beaming Sunglare and its ilk might warrant investigation. I guess. Vibrant Weather (or at least, sun)...? I know there are a few.

You could settle for http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16533... I am really not a fan of the sun always being "sunny" like that...

OBGE can also eat 10+fps of your total. Disable that and the VVD mods and I think you'll be okay.

Use ATI Tray Tools, it has a OnScreen Display capable of monitoring your CPU and GPU load. This way you can tell where your bottleneck lies.
