Anyone wish it WASN'T Skyrim?

Well, yeah, I'm not trying to wag my finger at them, I just found it surprising that somebody already misses Cyrodiil that much.

I personally preferred Morrowind to Cyrodiil too, but there's no harm in leaving the option open just in case. :P

I get it! You didn't want it to be Skyrim, you wanted it to be elsewhere! Ahahaha!

Clever.

I guess so, it still sounds strange to me.

I don't know how they're gonna do Black Marsh. It's just such a crazy place, I'm worried that even now we don't have the technology to really do it justice. It's hard to imagine, but I'm sure it'll be awesome whenever it happens.

Yeah, Black Marsh is supposed to be very exotic, I hope they don't do it justice like they did with the lush jungle of Cyrodiil.

What if I wanted it in skyrim...? You forgot that.

Well, the thing is, I know it's probably getting the majority of the votes, simply because it's been so hyped with the screens and what not. This epic forum background is fueling the whole thing too. :P

And secondly, you're already getting Skyrim whether you want it or not, so there's no real point in voting for it.

Yeah, I voted for Cyrodiil. After all, what's Skyrim giving us that no other land could? We'll have new creatures to fight, but we could just as easily have new creatures to fight in Cyrodiil. More snow and ice? Different-looking terrain? All just eye candy, and a Cyrodiil makeover could provide just as much new eye candy. Skyrim will probably display different cultures and politics, but the same could also be had in a Cyrodiil 200 years after Oblivion. Dragon shouts? They are like new spell effects, and we could have those without having dragon shouts.

The one unique thing I might expect Skyrim to give us -- the one thing we always hear about Skyrim as we play -- is cold. So far it appears that the only cold we are to have (other than spells which we would have regardless of the land in which we play) is audio-visual -- snow and ice and chilly-sounding winds. The cold won't mean anything to our character, or to our gameplay.

Which is why I preferred Morrowind as it was a completely different experience from Cyrodiil. Then again, Skyrim hasn't come out yet, so we don't know for sure what it's like.

Hi folks,

First let me clear up that I think it's cool that TES: V is going to take place in Skyrim, but don't some of you wonder what it would have been like if it were to take place in any other province? Or perhaps even all of Nirn? I mean, I can totally see it. Chilling in Skyrim one day, hunting in Valenwood the next, and on the boat to Summerset Isle the next week.

What do you guys think?

No i wanted it to be Skyrim, and it is.

Yeah - I wish it wasn't Skyrim, but I'm not even a little bit surprised that it is. I didn't vote, just as I didn't express my opinion back in the days when it was all still supposition, because the places in which I'd prefer to see a game set (Valenwood, Black Marsh, Summerset Isle...) are alien enough and/or mythical enough that I'm pretty sure that the enormous company full of executives, accountants, supervisors and 9-to-5ers that Beth has become would just end up making those places so painfully generic that I'd rather not have them at all.

The lean, hungry, creative, risk-taking company that gave us Morrowind might well have been able to pull off something like Valenwood or Black Marsh or Summerset Isle convincingly and satsifyingly. The bloated, rigid, budget and deadline-driven, mass market oriented company that gave us Oblivion almost certainly couldn't, and honestly, I'd rather not see them try.

But yeah... still.... I wish it wasn't Skyrim.

It would be funnier if that wasn't already where the word "Elsweyr" came from. An old Khajiit proverb states "The best community is always elsewhere." :P

Summerset Isle would've been my pick although I'm glad Skyrim is number 5.

I was hoping for Summerset, it had more going for it that Skyrim, you didn't hear diddly squat about Skyrim in Oblivion other than Nords attacking and taking over Solsthiem Summerset actually seemed to be introuble or atleast a major change was going on, and Valenwoods walking city STOPPED walking, why they pick Skyrim is beyond me by the worlds of a nord woman in Bruma, all skyrim was is Snow, Cold and more snow, now of course we know thats not utterly true, but Skyrim? really?

I seriously doubt the executives and accountants would tell Todd where next TES should take place and how alien it must be. That would be pretty ridiculous for a team of designers to be inspired by people who never dasigned a game.

Part of me was hoping for Summerset Isle, but for me, Skyrim was allright. After all, it'd yet to see some love like a lot of other provinces had, even if it was just in spin-off games.

Skyrim is going to be boss.

So boss in fact, that it will more than likely blow my mind several times within the first five minutes of gameplay.

Like a boss.

That being said, Black Marsh would have also been an exceedingly boss province to play in.

Yeah, I'm using the word "boss" as an adjective. It's just that boss.

Nor did I say they would. The executives and accountants set the deadline, the budget and requirements for projected sales. Those things limit what the designers can do. They have to churn out a product on schedule, under budget and with guaranteed mass-market appeal. That precludes a complex and creative representation of a startlingly new world and guarantees, instead, a streamlined and relatively generic representation of a comfortable and non-challenging world.

I'm thrilled it is Skyrim. I would have been less excited had it been a different province.

Honestly, I'd love to see many others, but the top of my list might be Black Marsh, pre-The Infernal City.

But I'm pretty satisfied with it being Skyrim.

Please add an option for Skyrim. When I finished Morrowind, I hoped the next game would be in Skyrim, after Oblivion, I hoped it'd be in Skyrim, then... SKYRIM! So ya.... it'd be nice. :D
