To anyone with a fair amount of Amazon.com experience...

Post » Fri Aug 20, 2010 3:45 am

I've been buying from Amazon.com quite a bit lately, and I would also like to pre-order Brink from there partially because of the Psycho pack. However, my problem is when I'm selecting a shipping speed, release date delivery isn't an option like it was for Dragon Age 2 when I pre-ordered it. Which brings me to the question - is it typical of Amazon to not have release date delivery available until a certain time period before a game's release, or is this an isolated incident? Because I would prefer to receive Brink on Day 1, and if Amazon can't deliver on that, then they will be losing my pre-order.

You could've continued http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1156300-questions-about-preordering-on-amazon-please-help/, really.

It basicly has all the answers you want, too.

Not to be combative, but I didn't really see the need to necro a month old thread.

Also, it doesn't contain the question (or the answer I seek for that matter) I'm asking. I'm not asking about Amazon's reliability or how I will receive my pre-order bonuses - I already know those answers. My question, which remains unanswered, was whether it was usual for release date delivery to not be a selectable option until a certain point before a game's release, or is the fact release date delivery is NOT currently a selectable option when pre-ordering Brink an isolated incident.

Because when I go to pre-order Brink from there, my only options for shipping speed are One-day, Two-day, Standard, Free Super Saver, and Free Two-day with Prime. Release date delivery isn't even mentioned on the page.

Have you tried contacting Amazon customer support? You might get your best answer straight from them.

I probably will within the next few days if I don't find out from anyone on here, I just figured I'd try here first for the sake of convenience.

every thread you go into on this forum will have a reply from the revoluzzer guy telling u to go to another thread. ive been here a few days and i noticed right away. Idonno why people like to act like forum police when they could have just as easily not replied and actually contribute MORE to the conversation by saying nothing. Sorry about the rant its just a sad and pathetic thing ive noticed since becoming a member on a game forum for the first time, and i guess i dont understand people like that..?

anyway, on topic. i think since the game is still a while from release, it doesnt have that option up yet but youll be able to change it closer to release. Amazon is always pretty good about this, so it would be weird if they didnt. Couldnt give you a for sure answer, sorry, but im pretty sure you wont have anything to worry about

It's part of the Forum policy. Rev is just letting you know how to not get threads deleted or locked for future reference.

Excuse me, have I insulted you or questioned your intelligence? There's no need to be childish.

The topic of the thread was pertinent enough that the question could have been posed in it, and likely would have been answered just as readily.

I don't recommend walking into a forum of somewhat comrader-ized posters and tossing insults around and complaining. You may find your experience short-lived.

Then perhaps people should stop posting redundant threads.

So are you saying you've seen Amazon wait to add the option of release date delivery until a certain (not necessarily patterned or anything, just not right the start I guess) time before a game's release? I'm not really sure if you're saying if you have or haven't been you said they're always pretty good about it, but you also said you weren't sure.

But yea, if you have seen it at least once before, then my question is answered and I'll happily let this thread die.

ya it COULD have been answered but it wasnt. Which is why its pointless and irritating when people try to exert their forum authority with links to other threads when there was no need. If a thread actually NEEDS to be locked, then it will be. There is no need for people to pretend to be moderators.

I'm kind of confused as to how you dont understand this concept, and you can save your threats of ostracizing me on a forum because number 1: I dont care and number 2: its a little pathetic. Some people need to get it through their head that not everyone takes this forum so seriously, some people are just looking for info. And IF the question being asked needs to be locked or taken down, someone with actual power over the forum will take care of it. (Even though usually the thread was fine and doesnt end up locked anyway)

sorry jerm i didnt see your post.. It happened to me when i preordered Uncharted 2, the option never showed up but i still got it on release day. so im not 100% sure but i would bet on the fact that youd get it day 1

That's because it wasn't asked. For having so much of an issue with forum policing, you seem to have no problem doing it yourself. I personally don't care if you actually care or not; I'm just giving you some friendly advice. If you insist on being an angry little guy that's fine, I just wouldn't expect anyone to be too willing to listen to your gripes, legitimate or not.

Count yourself lucky Amazon.com is accurate... I wanted to order from Amazon.ca, but noticed two problems :
1. The release date is way off, currently showing June 30.
2. There is no mention of any preorder pack.

I still haven't received any reply from Amazon (good thing I can cancel my preorder at any time, in case their answer doesn't suit me, since I HAD to place an order just to get clarification on those two questions, as I was unable to find any way to contact them without an order #) and will post their reply here once I receive one...

Wow, that's awful. Yea, Amazon.com has May 17th as the release date, and also mentions the psycho pack (with screenshot) as well as the $10 credit off future game purchases. Well, if it helps, I wish you the best of luck and I am pretty interested in reading their reply once you receive it.

In the end I might switch my order to Amazon.com anyway if there's a need to, since we had planned on buying two copies anyway (my gf won't mind waiting for hers in case customs delays arrival) and the other copy I'll be picking in store at BestBuy on release day so I can have a second, different pack anyway.. :)

Good man.

Also, if anyone is interested, I just contacted Amazon.com's support, and here's what I got:

You are now connected to Ravi from Amazon.com.

Me: I'm considering pre-ordering Brink from here, but when I get to the page where I select shipping speeds, release date delivery isn't an option. Is this normal for a game that doesn't release for another 3 months, or is release date delivery simply not an option for Brink? Because receiving the game on release date is a pretty large deciding factor in who I decide to pre-order the game from.3:35:31 PM

Ravi: Hello, my name is Ravi. I'll be happy to help you. 3:35:33 PM

Me: Hello Ravi. Do you see the three sentences I typed above?3:37:18 PM

Ravi: Thank you for asking if Brink is eligible for Release-Date Delivery. I've checked the product detail page on Amazon.com, and it appears the item is not currently eligible for this shipping option.3:37:44 PM

Ravi: It is possible that this item will become eligible as the release date gets closer 3:37:57 PM

Me: Ah, okay. So is this usual for Amazon? I'm a relatively new customer here.3:38:28 PM

Ravi: Jeremy, When we confirm the inventory from out Suppliers and then we can offer the release date delivery option. At this time, I can only suggest that you check back on Amazon.com at a later time.3:39:24 PM

Me: Okay. Also, if I were to place my order today, it would be possible to change the shipping speed to release date delivery once it becomes available (assuming it becomes available that is) right?3:40:32 PM

Ravi: No Jeremy. Release date delivery can only be selected at the time of placing the order. However you can always place a request to cancel the order and then re order again. You wont be charged for canceling an order3:41:22 PM

Me: Oh, I wasn't aware of that. In that case I suppose I will just keep Brink in my cart then. Also, I'm not sure if it varies or not, or even there is a good answer to this, but do you know if there's a usual amount of days before the release of a game when Amazon.com DOES confirm the inventory?3:44:23 PM

Ravi: Eligibility for Release-Date Delivery is indicated for each product on the product page, in the order pipeline, or at check-out. If the option does not appear, either the item or the shipping address is not eligible. We're not able to predict the exact date or time when the item will be available. 3:45:22 PM

Me: Ah, I figured as much. Well Ravi, I do appreciate your help in this matter, you've been very informative.3:46:57 PM

Ravi: You're welcome Jeremy. Is there anything else I can do for you today?3:47:14 PM

Me: Well, Brink mentions a $10 credit toward a future purchase. Would I receive that through an e-mail or would it be directly linked to my account?3:48:21 PM

Ravi: The promotional code will be placed directly into your Amazon.com account within 2 business days after the product ships. 3:48:54 PM

Me: Okay. Well, once again I appreciate your help, and I believe that's all the questions I have for the time being.3:49:45 PM

Ravi: Thanks for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you again soon.3:49:55 PM

Ravi from Amazon.com has left the conversation.

So I guess it is a common thing for Amazon after all, and at least I learned you can't modify an existing order to include release date delivery. I guess I'll wait it out a bit longer then... :brokencomputer:

inorite?

Best part imo was how he/she/it said:

which basically translates into "Hey, so uh, I just read your initial question and I decided it would be best to simply turn it into a statement without adding anything you didn't already know. But at least I went to the Brink page!"

Looks like Amazon.ca is still totally in the dark, unfortunately... I guess there's not much communication between .ca and .com :\

Thanks for writing to us at Amazon.ca.

I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused you due to this item.

I have checked our website and found that the item "Brink" has not yet been released.

Our latest information indicates that the expected release date is "June 30, 2011".

While we are confident that copies will be made available, we cannot provide more precise information about the fulfillment of the order, since we rely on the publisher for release date information.

Once this item has been released and we receive copies, we will be able to ship it to you. It is not uncommon for there to be a delay of several weeks between the release and distribution of a new publication.

As per our standard policy, we do not charge you for items until they enter the shipping process, so you would not be charged for this item until it is available and we have shipped it to you.

In light of this uncertainty, we will understand if you would prefer to cancel your order. As of yet we have made no changes.

To cancel your order, go to the URL below, sign in and click the "Need to cancel an item?" button:

We appreciate your business and hope that we will see you again soon at Amazon.ca.

Did we answer your question?

If yes, please click here:
