Anyone with a gaming PC getting it for console and not PC?

Post » Fri Sep 16, 2011 8:46 am

Not sure I understand why, if you have a gaming pc you would buy it for the console instead...kinda defeats the purpose of having the gaming pc in the first place doesn't it?

I have a gaming PC and I'm getting it for my Xbox. I prefer my controller and couch. ^_^

No doubt my PC [and many of yours] will run Skyrim smoother and with far better graphics [unless you have a Mac]. But I remember when Oblivion came out I got it for both, and I had significantly more fun on the Xbox version simply because I wasn't able to mod or dev cheat. That whole feeling of being a little fish in a big ocean made the game seem so immersive, I had so much fun in the early days. I can honestly say mods and cheats ruined the game for me [but level grinding on Xbox did svck badly].

HOWEVER, I'll be getting both. Xbox first though.

Personally I went out and bought a 5k gaming rig just to play Skyrim (well and Rage as well), but hey I make a good living (doing nothing even remotely computer related!).

Making a good living is neither here nor there... Personally, I think you overpaid for that rig. 5k is not just a little bit overkill, but a whole lot. My current rig that I put together for about $1200 will max out a fully modded Skyrim complete with graphics overhauls and still ask for more.

ive got a beast pc but il get it for ps3, i dont trust my pc much, always worrying that the game wont work because most of my games crash :Pi hate windows 7...
If your worrying that your game will crash, then perhaps your rig isn't as beastly as you think it is. BTW, I run a fully modded Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas on Win 7 without any major issues. Only issues I run into are Gamebryo related. As we already know now, Skyrim will not be running on Gamebryo, so you shouldn't have to worry about a badly opitmized game running on an outdated engine designed for outdated hardware (it's past time for Sony and MS to come out with the next gen)

I have a gaming PC and I'm getting it for my Xbox. I prefer my controller and couch. ^_^

That's funny, I can use a controller and sit on my couch playing Games on my pc. That's not really a very good argument for buying it for console instead. If you prefer consoles over Pc, that's fine, but it seems to me, to be a waste of money to own a gaming rig only to buy the game for a different system which is running on outdated hardware.

Can't see any reason why, other than:

- Steam
- having a PC that can't handle the game
- owning a way better TV than the PC monitor
- DLCs, which will come out for XBOX way before than for PC

360 for me, my PC is a major step down from consoles...gaming-wise. :( It was either CE on existing platform or new PC and no Skyrim whatsoever for a while...I chose the former.

I guess this would apply to me. I have slowed down drastically on the games that I play, while at the same time got fed up with microsoft. So, I went full linux... I know, i know, youre not supposed to go FULL LINUX... But Im a happier guy for it. I love my puter. Heck if Beth ever ported to Linux I would be all over it, but alas my platform isnt large enough. Anywho even though I have the specs to run Skyrim on my puter, I bought it for the 360.

Nein, my mac and my PC both run Oblivion smoothly, so macs are included into the category. And grinding does get pretty dull, yeah.

Yes for the PS3 only because my Asus G50VT X5's GPU finally died one day couple month ago while I was starting up EVE Online. :cryvaultboy:

Have a solid gaming comp that's even hooked up to my HDTV and I'm STILL getting it for my PS3. That's how much I hate playing anything that's not an RTS on PC. Human hands are designed to grasp the natural contours of a dualshock, or so it's always felt to me.

On the flip side, all those time ls they tried to put RTSs on Xbox (LOTR BMFE 2, Universe at War etc) made me lol.

I have both a PS3 and 360....which I really don't use all that often these days...sooooo adding that to the fact that on PC we can have mods....easy answer: I'm getting it for PC and already pre-ordered on Steam.

Do we know if there will be controller support on the PC, or will I have to finagle it to work?

Meh. Graphics are just about the least important thing about a game to me. And I'm really not a fan of mods. Almost every game I've stuck mods onto has gotten less enjoyable for me because of them (with the exception of C&C generals), plus they tend to crash the game. DLC will be fine with me.

I'll definitely play it on my pc. I've never touched a console since the good old days of the Sega Genesis. Although, I can understand some people wanting to play Skyrim on consoles because they just feel more comfortable playing it there. Sometimes being comfortable while playing can be as important as great graphics and whatnot. I've a friend who loves the social aspect of console gaming, bringing friends over and having a great time. With pc, according to him, you can still socialized but you get a different experience.

I only play non PC games and multiplayer games on Xbox, BUT I will be playing Skyrim with a controller from a couch on a TV, with a wireless keyboard to my side for some extra shortcut keys. When I'm modding or making vids, that's when I am using keyboard and mouse. Work on a computer, browse internets on a computer.. its nice to get away from the computer.

Wait, are you saying you're going to use a keyboard with your Xbox for extra hotkeys? Can we do that?

I've got a gaming PC alright, don't want to buy Skyrim for it though.
Why? I just find that consoles allow you to be more relaxed than PCs.
And the fact I'm unsure whether Skyrim will run well or without many crashes.

For some reason I get more crashes on the pc than consoles, with bethesda games.

I get that with ALL my games (more crashes on PC). Actually I think I've only had two actual crashes on my PS3 ever, one playing GoW 3, the other playing Crysis 2. And both times I think my PS3 just overheated cause I'd been playing too long.

Very true. I always end up trying to mod the game way more than playing it. On my PS3 I always play the game.

It's like driving a Toyota with the Batmobile in the garage. Sure, it gets you from point A to B, but you don't get to use the cool toys and pick up significantly less chicks.

I get what you're saying but I think the batmobile would just scare the crap out of most people lol

I believe about a month ago one of the Bethesda people (yellow name people) said their would be support for controllers on PC because he liked using them too.
