Anyone worried that Skyrim will be Fallout with Magic?

Post » Sat Dec 04, 2010 11:38 pm

If it's Fallout with magic, it would mean it's Oblivion, since Fallout 3 was Oblivion with guns. :P
If any ideas from Fallout actually make Skyrim a better game, then is that necessarily a bad thing?
Agreed!

Refusing to implement a change that is possibly for the better to preserve uniqueness sounds like a very reactionary viewpoint to me. For example the perks system may ( or may not, remains to be seen ) turn out to be the best idea in TES yet. In Principle, it makes the two series more similar, but the execution could possibly be the thing that makes this game stand out.

im not worried at all.
perks are the only thing that i can think of that they're taking from fallout. even then, they are changing them to fit more in TES

the skill system is still TES, there's no vats(that we know of).

pete hines said that there are things that work in TES, and things that work in FO, and they know only to share features that would work in both series.
(he was specifically taking about the armor system btw)

If Fallout 3 was Oblivion with Guns, and Skyrim is Fallout with Swords, does that mean that Skyrim is Oblivion with guns with Fallout with swords?

The dark brotherhood OF STEEL. :rolleyes:
No, not worried at all. If anything they turned Fallout into TES with guns. Fallout used to have tactical turn-based combat, remember?

It's not because they added perks that they will have the same humorous perks like in Fallout or even that it will be remotely similar at all.
That they're changing the system goes without saying, that's what they do with every new TES game.

I am not worried at all. They have said multiple times that this is an Elder Scrolls game, not Fallout. Things like the perk system has been in the Elder Scrolls since Oblivion.

For some reason, Bethesda has seemed to fall in love with anything Fallout. I am just like all reading everything we can find out about Skyrim. Skyrim, seems to be the most unTESish game out there so far. This can be a great thing or a bad thing. I am leaving my decisions till I play the game. I love Fallout 3 and New Vegas, so this could be a good thing. I also loved all the other TES games as well.

With alot of features being eliminated, from the TES series, and alot of similarities of Fallout 3 and NV, with the early knowladge, it looks like Fallout with Magic.

My only problem with it being Fallout with Magic is, I only played Fallout games a few times. I guess, I played like 100 hours of Fallout 3 but I have played over 250 hours of TES games, so almost a 1000 hours combined if not more of TES games.

So if Skyrim is Fallout with Magic I hope it have more replayability than Fallout 3 and NV has had. I just can't play those games over and over again like I did with Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion. (I think Arena was the only game I played hundreds of hours straight without starting over all the time.)

So are you worried that Skyrim will not be replayable like Fallout is? (Yes I know, for many Fallout is replayable, but for me, I can't put a finger on it, why)

Since it is a TES game, I believe it will and hundreds of hours will be spent playing it. But still, I have that fear of Fallout coming into the game. What do you guys and girls think?

Why do people keep saying this? People said that Fallout was going to be Oblivion with guns... I really want to know what Skyrim has taken from Fallout and put into Skyrim other than the perk system, which seeing as how Daggerfall and Oblivion had perk systems of their own, still doesn't mean it stole it completely from Fallout 3 seeing as how the perk system in FO 3 was a blend of the original Fallout perk system and the TES perk system. Really, just tell me anything else you think that makes it Fallout with magic.

Btw, if you go by the standards that people place on what makes a game a TES game, then Arena is the least TES-like game <_<

Some people are being ridiculous. Seriously, if gamesas didn't own Fallout and they added Perks, we would have no treads like these...
CRPS's are constantly borrowing design ideas from one another and ONE feature from Fallout (which is present in other games as well (like Neverwinter Nights)) does not turn TES into Fallout. The things that make Skyirm TES are still there and inclusions of new features inspired by other games does not change that.

And if feature from another game would improve gameplay, then that is something to be supported, not declined. We are not getting VATS or some other feature that would not fit TES gameplay but a feature that can improve its gameplay without going against Mainstream.

Waitwaitwait.

Skyrim = Fallout + magic
Skyrim = ( Oblivion + guns) + magic
Skyrim = ((dumbed-down LOTR Morrowind) + guns) + magic

In which we ascertain Skyrim will be in fact be Morrowind, only invaded by rather stupid hordes of hobbits dual-wielding guns and magic.

But morrowind is just a dumbed-down version of Daggerfall with aliens in it. So Skyrim will be Daggerfall, only invaded by rather stupid hordes of Alien hobbits dual-wielding guns and magic

And reducing this to the most basic conclusion: Beth would have continued their path of simplification and done Skyrim in a similarly streamlined way, even if they had not made Fallout 3. Case closed.

When they say they have taken the economy from fable, the plot driven choices from Mass Effect, and the sense of freedom from Halo, then I will worry.

nah, am not too worried on this point. In fact, I think perks, having thought about it for a while, qill allow for some qute unique character shaping. i.e. pure thief etc.

Already said TES is TES, i think that they know what they're doing. I think they have been doing this for awhile or something. Let them do what they do.

so you know what is considered to be TES and not? all games are drastically different, so there is nothing to base TES on. And it wouldn't be bad if it was like a fallout game, Fallout 3 was just TES with guns, they used the exact same system, but they added new stuff

Fo3 was a bit of a one trick pony, one loop around the map and there was nothing left to do.
FoNV was a 2 trick pony with great dialogue, I'm a svcker for a good tail.
Morrowind was an entire field full of trick ponies and they each had their own little quirks.
Ob was a dead dog.

Fallout with Magic? I just don't see it. Fallout 3 was Oblivion with guns? I just don't see that either. The only really big thing that was simmilar was the grafics. I don't remember stealing a spoon in fallout and then having guards chase after me while calling me scum. I don't think the water in Skyrim will be filled to the brim wih radiation either.

I'm more worried about the possible lack of spellmaking or birthsigns. I'm feeling like Skyrim will be to Oblivion what Oblivion was to Morrowind.
