Anyone worried that Skyrim will be Fallout with Magic?

Post » Sat Dec 04, 2010 8:12 pm

they're using ideas they had for fallout that could work for a TES game, and changing them to fit... and so far, all i notice from fallout is the perks when leveling up, but OBLIVION had perks too, when you reached certain levels in skills, you'd automatically gain perks/new attacks...

...and this may shock you, but i doubt oblivion was the first ever game to come up with perks!
look, you're just nitpicking and this BS about it being a fallout clone is really irritating he hell out of me...

i would go on and explain more, but... really, anyone who thinks skyrim is gonna be a fallout clone, doesnt deserve any effort put into anything by anyone else.

i didnt realize fallout 3 used the creation engine, dynamic snow, dynamic quests, hyper realism and all that stuff, though... but hey, i didnt get to play the game that much before it started freezing and crashing like freaking crazy! :banghead:

i wish a mod would close this topic... what point does it serve other than to annoy people?

No, why no it wasn't. Perks=Feats, created by DND. Also, Fallout 1 came out in '96...with perks.

To answer the original question, no.

If it turns out I'm wrong I can only hope the characters, dialogue and story are at least as good as in NV.

It does feel like Fallout in some respects, especially with crafting taking place in towns. But it's still too early to pass judgment.

That has always been. Most Alchemical and Spell Making services have been in towns in TES games. It was rare you would get someone out in the wilds that would do this for you.

As long as it is simple with lots of achievements and shiny stuff, for young stupid console gamers like me who like simple and boring!

Seriously though, I am not really worried about that.

I would imagine, without any opinion into the actual fact, that Skyrim will be seeing features from Fallout. Bethesda has invested huge amounts of time into both the TES and Fallout series, and because Fallout has been they're latest venture, they're going to borrow from they're own ideas and bring them back to Skyrim. I don't believe they're going to intentionally say "I like Fallout better, lets make this more like Fallout," but were definently going to see borrowed thoughts.

I am. I for one hated Fallout 3 but loved Oblivion. To the people saying it is anything like Oblivion just no. Oblivion was more fun. If it is like Fallout I am going to sell it back the first day I played it.

No seriously...

HOW COULD IT BE FALLOUT WITH MAGIC?

Just think about it. Plus, post your facts/theories of how it could end up being like that? Or at least close to it.

I don't think OP did it on purpose, but what a delightful parody it is!

When Bethesda's next game is a racing game, let's all agree to call it "Skyrim with cars"

What makes people think Perks are from Fallout? They're a different name for something introduced by the d20 PnP system: Feats. And before that, "Class Features."

They've been a part of Roleplaying Games in general, not an exclusive Fallout thing.
And, as a general rule, I saw Fallout as indication of Improvement on what Oblivion started, with the thematic changes keeping it Fallout.

Both IPs are remarkably and awesomely similar. Just different settings.

You see a dewmer jukebox leap into life and start playing a haunting melody... all of a sudden that deep rumbling voice starts to say war.. war never changes... then he almost gets zapped with a fireball and a dragon swoops past him... As the camera pans out to show him standing in skyrim amid chaos and magic.. Ok MAYBE war does change... Then a dragon stomps him flat as a bug. As his head rolls down all 7000 steps of the throat of the world the music plays on with the bethesda starting credits popping up... thud thud thud THUD squish.. thud thud blorp....

Define unTESish for me. The only two with a lot of real similarities were Arena and Morrowind. I hear a lot of complaints about Skyrim and Oblivion, but they are two fifths of the series. I don't really understand what it is that people say makes Arena through Morrowind the elder scrolls, but not oblivion and skyrim.

What? No...

I'm pretty sure Bethesda knows how to differentiate two separate IPs

I chuckle. Didn't read the thread, but OP's post reminds me of all the people who were worried about FO3 being nothing more than "Oblivion with guns". The irony of worrying abut the opposite is somehow very amusing.

It won't be Fallout (note that the first Fallout game and general series outside of the third Fallout game are vastly different from the third Fallout game) with magic. It might be Fallout 3 with magic, joinable factions, a learn-by-use system, in-game books, and a fantasy setting, though, and I don't think that's a bad thing, to be honest. Fallout 3 was basically an Elder Scrolls game in disguise, with some differences in game mechanics. To convert its Elder Scrolls base back into the base of an actual Elder Scrolls game isn't really much to fear. I enjoy Fallout 3's leveling system (seems we're getting Fallout 3-esque perks in Skyrim), handling of level-scaling, and exploration more than those of any of the four, core Elder Scrolls games.

I love both games and have to say that: Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns.

You have been misinformed. Fallout 3 (and new vegas) used the same engine as Oblivion. A heavily modified gamebryo. Creation Engine is entirely new and created by Bethesda Game Studios. Skyrim will be the first game to use it.
That has always been. Most Alchemical and Spell Making services have been in towns in TES games. It was rare you would get someone out in the wilds that would do this for you.
I think he meant that you will no longer to be able to create potions or repair your gear yourself unless you are in a town.

I'm not worried at all. The more information I hear the more excited I get. I have this thing called optimism. A lot of the folks around would do good to go find some. :D
