Anyone worried that Skyrim will be Fallout with Magic?

Post » Sun Dec 05, 2010 3:33 am

For some reason, Bethesda has seemed to fall in love with anything Fallout. I am just like all reading everything we can find out about Skyrim. Skyrim, seems to be the most unTESish game out there so far. This can be a great thing or a bad thing. I am leaving my decisions till I play the game. I love Fallout 3 and New Vegas, so this could be a good thing. I also loved all the other TES games as well.

With alot of features being eliminated, from the TES series, and alot of similarities of Fallout 3 and NV, with the early knowladge, it looks like Fallout with Magic.

My only problem with it being Fallout with Magic is, I only played Fallout games a few times. I guess, I played like 100 hours of Fallout 3 but I have played over 250 hours of TES games, so almost a 1000 hours combined if not more of TES games.

So if Skyrim is Fallout with Magic I hope it have more replayability than Fallout 3 and NV has had. I just can't play those games over and over again like I did with Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion. (I think Arena was the only game I played hundreds of hours straight without starting over all the time.)

So are you worried that Skyrim will not be replayable like Fallout is? (Yes I know, for many Fallout is replayable, but for me, I can't put a finger on it, why)

Since it is a TES game, I believe it will and hundreds of hours will be spent playing it. But still, I have that fear of Fallout coming into the game. What do you guys and girls think?

If it's Fallout with magic, it would mean it's Oblivion, since Fallout 3 was Oblivion with guns. :P

I keep hearing about features from Fallout slithering their way into Skyrim, but it's still too early to tell.

I never played Fallout 3, I'm not a fan of the series. If Skyrim is Fallout with Magic than it won't be TES and I'll be severly dissapointed.

I wouldn't mind a New Vegas with magic and a new engine.

this
what they seem to be adding to skyrim that was in FO3/NV are more conceptual and not physical. there aren't going to be guns. there aren't going to be death claws. we'll get to choose perks, but thats basicly the biggest or significant thing that is kinda being ported from the FO franchise.

If Bethesda ever decides to make a football game, it will be Oblivion with cheerleaders.

Not concerned about this at all, personally. Everything they've said so far seems indicative of greater depth than Oblivion had, not less imo.

If any ideas from Fallout actually make Skyrim a better game, then is that necessarily a bad thing?

We've got perks, likely no attributes, and swords. It's a Fable/Fallout blend. TES VI: Fable of Fallout?

No I'm definitely not worried.

I think it's kinda the opposite - that Fallout users should be worried that Fallout 4 will be Skyrim but with no fantasy or mediveal theme.
I always felt that Fallout 3 had a strong resemblance to Oblivion...
In any case - both amazing games :D

Fallout 3 was better than Oblivion so this is a good thing.

TES isn't Fallout. They are 2 separate games and each one should be unique. I don't want Fallout in TES and I'm sure the Fallout fans don't want TES in their Fallout.

[Snip, snippety, snop]

You're kiddin' me, right !? No, I'm not worried Skyrim will be Fallout with guns. At all! :lmao:
Bethesda knows what they're doing most of the time. They learn from their mistakes and learn from their successes. Fallout had some successes and we might see some features come to TES, but Bethesda knows perfectly well that they are completely unrelated games, and some features belong in an over-the-top zombie shooter and others in an RPG.
Chill out, man -- this game is in the hands of the most professional of the professionals ;)

edit: Just to clear things up -- I do know Fallout is supposed to be an RPG :P I was just trying to emphasize the difference.

Fable? Really? Nothing they've said is remotely indicative of that. If attributes are gone, everything they did can still be accomplished via skills. We don't have to have a separate strength attribute modifier on top of our Long Blade (or one handed, or whatever it is this time) skill for it to still be a deeper RPG than Fable, surely?

I wouldn't say its fallout with magic, but I do agree the devs fell in love with fallout a little too much.
Fallout was good, sure, but its a different series. Sometimes it feels like they only came back to TES was because there were expected to. Except for the sound guy, he seemed to like it...

There are some things they could take from fallout to make TES better, perks can be good, but that shouldn't be the whole system for instance. There were perks in Oblivion, they just svcked half the time and weren't enough of them.

I also agree its too early to tell, but the worry is there.

That's what happened though. TES was incorporated into Fallout. Heh.

Anyway, a lot of supposedly 'fallout' features which made/are making their way into Skyrim aren't actually Fallout features. Apart from that, good game design decisions can be the same for different games in certain aspects (for example, branched dialogue, c&c etc).

It does feel like Fallout in some respects, especially with crafting taking place in towns. But it's still too early to pass judgment.
