So he went out and bought CS:Source, tried to get him to get Crysis 2, but CS:Source was only $19.99. Installed Steam, then CS:Source, then I went home for lunch and we launched a private game online so I could show him how to play, give him some tips, etc.. Did the samething the next day, except another co-worker also joined in (brought his laptop).
Anyway.. after playing CS:Source with them, I suddenly got the urge to play it again and also the CS:Source beta they have out.. so for the past week I've been CS'n it.
Just wondering if anything new is going on w/ Crysis 2 or is everything still the same? I was hoping the Crytek would still be working on "existing issues" in the game, for some reason they are under the false assumption that patch 1.9 has fixed "everything", and it has'nt. There is still major lag w/ Orbital Strikes, still occassional network issues, I still have the glitch to where when I get killed and then re-spawn.. that sometimes I see the "weapons" of cloaked players, basically looks like a floating gun running across the map and also the issue where my weapon attachments disappear / scope repticles disappear on re-spawns. I was also still hoping that they would get off their buttocks and release an x64 bit enhancement patch.
Now.. for the "most part", the game is 98% better than before, atleast for me.. I rarely see hackers anymore, though occassionally I still do, the graphics do look better, and the game does play better... but Crysis 2 had the potential to be the most awsome game of 2011 for PC if Crytek would have just developed this game differently from the start. I still do not know "WHY" they based it on DirectX 9.0, this still baffles me to this day, it should have had "directX 10" and "directX 11" launch modes in both 32 bit / x64 bit editions, just as previous Crysis games had directX 9 and directX 10 launch modes.
Now it seems as if Crytek has abandoned us... I can't even get them to answer any emails or pm's at all. Is there some holiday in the UK I don't know about, because it's like nobody's home!
I'm not really sure what happened to Crytek.. Crysis 2 should have "continued support" throughout it's playable life-span, patches should continue to be developed and released, anti-cheat engines should be "constantly and consistently updated", no exceptions, even if a huge hacking problem is not present, the anti-cheat engine should always be updated to "stay ahead of the hackers". Take for example the game I've been playing for the past week, CS:Source.. look how old this game is, yet the game gets updated frequently, VAC is updated frequently, and Valve/Steam has even released a CS:Source Beta which has new features implemented into it, after tested for awhile these updates then get integrated into CS:Source. This game is almost 8 years old (older if you include the beta release) and it still gets massive attention. Yes, I know that it is still a extremely popular game, but Crysis 2 had the potential to be just as, even more, popular.. the only reason it isn't is because of poor support, based on 2 versions back of directX, massive bugs at initial release. This was all avoidable.
I'm not trying to start a bash Crytek again post.. It is just that I really like Crysis 2 and want to continue to play it... but the fanbase just isn't there and I feel like it's going to be a Medal of Honor 2010 game.. which was very popular on release, nice graphics, even free from bugs/glitches.. but the "hackers" killed it in my opinion. On day one, MoH 2010 was hacked up already.. ridiculous hacks too. Now the DVD sits on my desk and is used as a "dust collector" .. there are only a few servers w/ players in it, basically it's a dead game with just a few dedicated players left... sad thing is, to me it has awsome graphics and game play.
I just hope "Crysis 2" is not heading down this same path to forgotteness... I sometimes feel like if I disappear for a week or two and play some of my other games, when I come back to Crysis 2, I am only going to see 10 servers with players in them, with maybe a maximum of 50 to 75 players left total.
I also feel like when "BattleField 3", "Call of Duty MW3", and "FarCry 3" are released late 2011 / early 2012, Crysis 2 is going to DIE completely off. Now, the majority of the power to stop this from happening lies with the developer, Crytek! However, we the players do have some power to continue it's support, like the release of these "SiTH MapPacks", things like this keep interest up in the game, and thanks to them and others that do these things, it does give Crysis 2 some hope of survival.. but not enough I fear. Crytek holds the main key to this games existence. With graphics and game play of games like Crysis 2, it should not be out played by 8, 9, and 10 year old games.
