Anyway to get MWSE to work with the Steam version of Morrowi

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 3:51 pm

MWE plays nicely with the Steam Morrowind, but MWSE causes it to crap the bed :(

Where did you get that idea? It worked for me before I started using MGE (which has it included).

Bug testing. Mwse plus mwe = crash.

Mwe alone fine.

Mwse alone crash.

Mge plus mwe = fine.

Mge with internal mwse enabled = crash.

Above with mwe = crash.

What is the common denominator

DO you have MWSE checked in MGE? It has an internal version which eliminates the need to use the standalone MWSE.

In addition, if you are using MWE, save often and don't rely on quicksaves or autosaves. MWE has a long reputation for corrupting savegames.

I tried it without MWSE checked in MGE with MWSE run externally, then tried it with MWSE checked in MGE without MWSE running externally. Both cause CTDs.

Have you tried running it with the Steam Overlay disabled?

Yup, I had to disable that first thing, otherwise the whole screen was black even without anything else running in the background.

Oh, though I just realized-- this might be the problem. MWE and MWGE both look to the right directory ((x86)/steam/etc) to launch morrowind, but MWSE seems to be looking for the oldschool location-- so when I use MWSE to try to launch the launcher it can't find Morrowind.

Anyway to forcibly change where MWSE looks for the launcher?

Ed. bugger, got MWSE to run on it's own (planted MWSE straight up into the /morrowind/ folder and it ran) but when I have the other stuff running it craps the bed :/

Ed.Ed. And NOW MWSE is unable to launch it at all, even after overwriting all of that with the .7z file I downloaded O.o

Wai. I can't launch MORROWIND now.

You seem to be getting closer to the issue. I wish I knew what to tell you. I don't see a MWSE ini or cfg file to edit.

I had to completely blast all of the MWSE files out of my /morrowind/ directory. I was getting the following error after I successfully launched the game with MWSE once: "Morrowind. The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click okay to close the application."

Thankfully, that DID fix the problem, so now I can, you know, actually play morrowind.

Mind you, this is without MWSE ;) But it doesn't crash out the gate now.

I just wish there was a Oblivion Style Magic Mod that didn't need MWE and MWSE :/

Pretty sure that the Morrowind code patch has a feature allowing you to cast without raising your hands/Oblivion style. As long as that's what you meant.

Pretty sure that the Morrowind code patch has a feature allowing you to cast without raising your hands/Oblivion style. As long as that's what you meant.

that there is...

71 Swift casting
Allows the player to immediately cast from any stance by using the 'ready magic' key, instead of having to switch first. You can cast while holding a weapon; NPCs are also a little quicker to cast and can hold weapons while doing so. Using quickslots no longer changes stance when you select a spell or magic item.

You are still able to get to ready magic stance with the 'M' key. If any mods add scripted spells, you may still have to ready your hands first for the scripted spell to work, if the mod requires it.

also MWSE doesn't look for the exe or game path it looks for the process in memory it sounds to me that the MWSE.dll was corrupted or something like that glad to here you got it solved.

If you Steam installed into the C:\Program Files(x86) folder then you need to reinstall it first, because the C:\Program Files(x86) folder is the culprit here if you're using Vista/Windows7 anyway, so this is what you need to do to if you want to have MWSE checked in MGE and still running MGE with MWSE enabled, MWE at the same time.

1. Uninstall Morrowind
2. Turn off the UAC (User Account Control) in the control panel and reboot your PC when prompted
3. Install Morrowind in any folder outside of any related C:\Program Files(x86) folder and the C:\Games folder is fine to install Morrowind or any else
4. Install the http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=65209#p65209 in this order for MGE and reboot when prompted
5. Install http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=1008 and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:Morrowind_Patch_Project first then MWE
